Chapter 34 - Pause between battles
Kyrain laid on his bed watching the timer to his path tick down. It was less than a half hour now.
He and Nyx had been put on standby as the higher level hunters swept the city massacring any thrall they could find.
Kyrain just lay there listening to the hustle and bustle outside when there was a deep thump. It was as if someone dropped something or bumped the bed. It was a shock waves outer reach. He couldn't check at the moment with even his aether sense down, but it was his best guess.
Nyx rushed it. "Look outside!" She shouted running over to his windows and throwing open the curtains.
In the distance he was a bright orange and red dot flitting around a black dot and every time they collided there were small flashes and they were launched back.
"I just spoke to Eclipse, but there was something massive taking place in LA and the top hunters were called away to support so it's a few level 3's left here. Both her and immediately I are thinking it was a set up." She said.
"That would make sense. How long ago?" He asked.
"About 12 hours." She said.
Kyrain pursed his lips and looked at his timer. Just under 10 minutes until he was back online.
"I'll be ready to get back into the fight in less than ten minutes." He said as he sat down in a chair and started tapping his heel up and down impatiently.
There was an impact closer than the two dots seemingly fighting further out. Flashing of light could be seen lighting up the outside midafternoon. It was cloudy outside, but it became as bright as a bright summer day for a split second before returning.
Kyrain looked out the window trying to find where it was. He could see the Space needle from his place at Embassy Suites and the flashes were coming from the top.
Kyrain had a feeling who the fighters were now with those flashes. He looked at his timer, seven minutes.
"Nyx! I have now less than seven minutes before all my skills are back online. We need to get out there!" He said heading for the door.
She just nodded and went after him. They ran down the hall and jumped into the elevator as they felt a few more shock waves hit the building. They were not powerful at this distance, but it felt almost like a gun's conclusion.
After a couple minutes more, they reached the lobby.
Kyrain pulled his sword and shield from their places as Nyx readied a thinner straight sword he had only seen at the house but her never using it.
"What type of sword is that?" He asked as they went outside.
"A Jian. Its considered a noble weapon and the higher classes of society are expected to be able to use it." She said as they stopped to look which way they wanted to go.
"Let's split up! You know Phoenix and can help her the most and potentially keep any ground forces off of her! I'll head to who I think is Eclipse and see if we can't deal with things over there. Whoever gets done with their fight first heads over to assist the other group. Yes?" He said and asked in an breath.
She turned her masked face over to him. "That's a plan! Be careful and hold out til I get there." She said with amusement.
"Ha! Funny. Be safe too. See you in a bit." He said as they split up and went in different directions.
- Eclipse/Vampire -
*Bam!*
Another impact as she kept deflecting the flanged mace from the vampire being swung at her.
It really had her pissed that a heavy weapon like that could be swung with so little effort matching her speed with knives and even her day powers.
It pissed her off even more that this supposed vampire was out during the day. She saw all those thrall burn up when they were exposed to the sun, but this one had no issues at all.
She figured she would have an overwhelming advantage with her Solar Rays, but save for the few times she clipped the vampire burning parts of her clothes, there was no significant damage.
She, on the other hand, had taken some shots that made her feel like she had a fracture or two with some deep cuts.
"Give up. You can't possibly win. I've already drawn blood." The woman said.
Eclipse ignored her and flashed back in. Her path "Eclipse" changed based on if it were day or night. During they day she had powers of the sun, fire, and light. During the night she had powers of the moon, ice, and shadow with a half hour penalty directly after the switch from day to night.
Eclipse ignited her two knives and used a skilled called flash step, she vanished and tried to smash into the woman's back and sever her thought. As soon as she moved and struck her blades hit what looked to be a red, liquid, barrier that smelled so strongly of copper and slight rot.
"You can't win." Cackled the vampire as a foot came up so fast launching Eclipse down into the top of the space needle crashing through the roof and sliding across the floor and slamming into the tempered glass knocking it completely out at the frame.
She went to get up when a rolling serving table came hurtling in and smashed into her and launched her out of the hole where the window once was.
The vampire watched her fall out of the window and smiled. On her back two black scaled wings sprouted. She turned to fly off to help her fellow bride with that pesky firefly woman they had begun to call her, when a sudden searing pair of burning stabs ripped through her back forcing her face harshly into the ground.
She sat back up and turned to swing with her mace, but found it far too heavy. It moved so slowly, and the blades were torn from her back.
She rose to her feet and continued to turn as her wounds, now seared didn't heal as quickly. She looked and saw nobody, then at her legs came four quick, deep cuts that severed her achilles tendons and hamstrings searing them at the same time.
Her legs buckled as she tried to turn around, those two burning blades were slammed into her shoulder joints and then her arms were wrenched behind her back as her face was slammed into the roof for the second time.
She heard the clicking of reinforced cuffs and felt the cold metal slam around her wrists.
She turned her head and saw a another masked individual appear with a mutant skull mask.
He checked on the woman in the other mask she had been fighting. Once the check was done the masked man looked at her, waved a hand then she fell. The next thing she knew she was in a padded very well lit cell. She felt her path come back, but she couldn't break out of the hand cuffs and the door she was sure was just as heavily reinforced as the cuffs.
The door swung open a few minutes later and a man with a wiry build walked in oozing with power that nearly matched her master's. He had a bottomland camouflage mask in the shape of a wolf.
"You may call me Fury. I am going to ask you some questions. It is in your best interest to answer them willingly, quickly, and honestly." He said, sending shivers of pure instinctual terror through the vampiress.
