It was a warm evening at the Hard Rock, the humid air thick with anticipation.

There were over 65,000 fans present in the stadium, filling it to the brim, an ocean of mostly blue and white but the few Pharaoh gold.

Not all of them may be Argentinian fans, but 99% of fans in the stadium were Lionel Messi fans as they sang his name in the build-up to the start of the game.

Egypt, the spirited underdogs led by the mercurial Mohamed Salah, dared to dream of rewriting history.

Argentina, reigning world champions, carried expectation, artistry, and the weight of legacy.

Lionel Messi, returning from an injury in training, watched from the bench, his eyes narrowed, reading the game as only he could.

The starting lineups were released an hour and 30 minutes before the game was scheduled to start.

Lionel Scaloni's Argentina started in their trademark 4-3-3 formation with Emiliano Martinez in goal, while ahead of him was the defensive quadruple of Nahuel Molina, Cristian Romero, Lisandro Martinez, and Marcos Acuna.

In midfield was the dynamic midfield trio of Enzo Fernandez, Rodrigo De Paul, and Alexis Mac Allister.

While the attacking trio upfront were Julian Alvarez, Lautaro Martinez, and Thiago Almada.

Egypt started in a 4-2-3-1 with Mohamed El Shenawy in goal, while in defense was the quadruple of Omar Gaber, Ahmed Hegazi, Mohamed Abdelmonem, and Mohamed Hamdy.

In midfield was the duo of Mohamed Elneny and Mahmoud Hamada, while the 3 creative players up field were Treaequet, Emam Ashour, and Mohamed Salah who also captained the side.

Omar Marmoush led the line for the Pharaohs of Egypt as the striker.

FWEEE!

The game started.

And right from kickoff, Argentina attacked relentlessly, waves of Albiceleste flooding Egypt's half, forcing the Egyptians to form an Egyptian wall.

Julian Alvarez's pace caused immediate havoc, but Egypt's disciplined defense, marshaled by the veteran Hegazi, stood firm.

In the 27th minute, El Shenavy denied Lautaro Martinez.

Lautaro spun clever off Abdelmonem, unleashing a fierce strike, but Egypt's goalkeeper flung himself across to tip it over spectacularly.

Egypt countered through Salah, whose elusive footwork threatened to unlock Argentina's defense in a moment of magic.

Argentina dominated the game, dominating in all parameters, from possession to corners, and yet, anytime the ball touched Salah's foot, the stadium buzzed, almost as it if was about to come undone by the Egyptian's magic.

And yet, at halftime, the score stayed locked at 0-0.

During halftime, fans of the Argentina G.O.A.T started in the stands.

"Messi!" "Messi!" "Messi!" They chanted, clamoring for Lionel Messi to be brought on to the pitch in the second half.

When the second half started, Lionel Scaloni did just that.

The crowd stirred as Lionel Messi began warming up along the touchline. The stadium rose, a collective breath held.

Scaloni didn't put him on immediately though.

It was not until the 58th minute when Messi finally came on for Thiago Almada after repeated frustrated groans and boos from the fans.

And immediately, the tempo shifted.

Messi took charge, orchestrating with his unmatched precision.

Remember the nickname La Pulga? The flea?

A name that Lionel Messi gained in Spain due to his small stature, exceptional agility, and dribbling ability.

Sometimes he was called La Pulga Atomica, the Atomic Flea, emphasizing his speed and quickness.

Tonight, when it mattered most for Argentina, La Pulga Atomica showed up.

In the 64th minute, magic… BOOM!

Messi scored!

Receiving the ball from De Paul, Messi glided past Elneny with deft movement, sidestepped Hegazi, and caressed a shot into the bottom corner.

Effortless.

The stadium erupted.

1-0 Argentina.

It seemed decided after that vintage goal to shut the stadium down, and yet, Egypt refused to surrender. Not after coming this far.

Salah rallied his troops, pushing forward, believing.

And then…

In the 76th minute, Salah struck, aura for aura in response to Messi's brilliance.

It was a stunning response. Cutting inside Acuna, Salah unleashed an unstoppable curler past Martinez.

Pharaoh magic matched Messi's genius.

1-1.

Game on again.

Argentina pressed frantically, but Egypt, brave and resilient, held until the whistle blew, signaling extra time.

Once again, another Round of 16 game went the extra mile.

Extra time started.

The match stretched nerves and muscles alike. Fatigue crept into every touch. Argentina probed, and Egypt countered bravely.

They had no intentions of rolling over in defeat just because they were playing against the reigning world champions. Rather, they yearned to prove their credentials by beating the reigning world champions.

But despite their effort, the decisive blow came nonetheless.

It game in the 113th minute, and it was Julian Alvarez, finally.

Messi again was pivotal, threading a perfect pass. Alvarez darted through, holding off Abdelmonem, firing low into the corner.

Sheer relief and joy erupted.

2-1 Argentina.

The stadium literally melted down as Alvarez celebrated with passion and love. Argentine fans in the stadium were losing it.

Egypt, valiant until the end, threw bodies forward in response.

Salah hit the side netting, inches from immortality. Despite the desperate late pressure from Egypt, Argentina held firm, hearts pounding right until the final whistle sounded.
