On the same day that Netherlands took on Colombia, Netherlands eventually getting the last laugh and progressing to the next stage of the tournament, Brazil also took on Uruguay at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, USA.

Brazil started in a customary 4-3-3 formation under their new coach, Carlo Ancelotti.

Ancelotti's men for the game was a defensive quadruple of Alisson Becker in goal, while ahead of him was a defensive quadruple of Danilo, Marquinhos, Eder Militao, and Wendell.

In midfield was the trio of Bruno Guimaraes, Joal Gomes, and Lucas Paqueta, while ahead in attack was the dynamic trio of Raphinha, Rodrygo, and Neymar Jnr.

For Brazil's pressure cooker Round of 16 clash against Uruguay, Carlo Ancelloti took the bold decision of dropping Vinicius Jnr. to the bench in favor of Neymar Jnr.

He also took the bold decision of playing Rodrygo as the striker.

As for Uruguay, starting in a 4-4-2, they had Sergio Rochet in goal, while ahead of the goalkeeper was a defensive quadruple of Nahitan Nandez, Ronald Araujo, Jose Gimenez, and Matias Vina.

In midfield was the quadruple of Facundo Pellistri, Manuel Ugarte, Ferderico Valverde, and Nicolas de la Cruz, while further ahead in attack was the dynamic strike partnership of Darwin Nunez and Araujo.

Marcelo Bielsa went head to head against Carlo Ancelloti.

The temperature hung heavy in Dallas as two South American giants clashed beneath the glare of the stadium lights.

Inside the tunnel, Neymar rolled his shoulders, his expression calm, unreadable, an image of a footballer back in form.

The captain's armband pressed tight on his left arm.

Next to him, Raphinha bounced in place, fire in his eyes.

Their coach, Carlo Ancelotti stood behind them; serene, arms crossed, chewing gently on a gum as he adjusted his glasses.

On the other side, Darwin Nunez spat into the turf. Manuel Ugarte thumped his chest. Uruguay came to fight.

They came out onto the pitch, and then…

FWEEE!

The whistle blew.

The South American derby kicked off with intensity as both sides pressed high and looked to impose their physicality.

Neymar, returning to World Cup action, showed exactly why Carlo Ancelotti started him in a game of this importance, immediately showcasing his class with subtle flicks and control under pressure.

The game was tight at first, but then Brazil took control early.

Bruno Guimaraes ran the midfield like a general, commanding space, directing tempo.

And then, in the 11th minute, he became the Brazilian beacon of light that illuminated the beautiful nation of Brazil.

In the 11th minute, he released a pass that sliced through Uruguay's line, finding Raphinha on the right.

One touch. A shimmy, leaving Matias Vina stumbling.

Then he struck.

BAM!

Low. Clean. Far post.

The goalkeeper stood no chance.

GOAL!

Brazil 1-0 Uruguay.

The crowd erupted.

Raphinha ran to the corner flag, arms spread wide. Neymar jogged over, clapped his head, then whispered something into his ear.

Uruguay didn't sit back after conceding. They fought tooth and nail to get the equalizer.

This was no longer the stage where there are clear favorites. Brazil was a heavyweight, but Uruguay was also a heavyweight of international football.

And now, they dug in.

Valverde hit the crossbar in the 23rd minute, a thunderbolt that had Alisson beaten.

Nunez prowled the edge of the box, snarling, hunting for scraps. But Marquinhos and Eder Militao kept him leashed, just barely.

And then, in the 39th minute, Neymar weaved through two defenders, rolled a back heel to Rodrygo, who returned it instantly.

Neymar was clear!

He didn't blast it. He placed it.

GOAL!

Brazil 2-0 Uruguay.

And just like that, the magic was back.

The first half came to an end 2-0 in Brazil's favor.

The 2nd half soon started and Marcelo Bielsa's team didn't fold.

They came roaring back, fighting hard. Brazil held, for a time. And then, Uruguay found their lifeline.

In the 51st minute, Nunez muscled his way past Danilo and curled a shot into the top corner.

BAM!

Brazil 2-1 Uruguay.

He scored with the collective fury coursing through millions of Uruguayan hearts around the world.

The gamed turned into a war.

Yellow cards flew. Tempers flared. Joao Gomes nearly came to blows with Ugarte. Ancelotti made his move: Andrey Santos on for Lucas Paqueta, fresh legs in midfield.

The pressure mounted.

60 minutes, 70, 75…

Then, relief.

Raphinha again.

Sprinting on the break, Neymar threaded a pass between defenders.

Raphinha didn't look up. He just hit it with deadly striker's instinct.

BAM!

The ball soared high, tearing its way into the top right corner of the net.

GOAL!

Brazil 3-1 Uruguay.

His second of the night. The stadium roared like a wave crashing on rocks.

Uruguay never gave up though despite the seemingly hopeless situation. In the 89th minute, they clawed one back, a scrappy finish from Nunez after a chaotic corner to make it a brace.

3-2.

But there would be no miracle.

Brazil dug in and defended till the referee's final whistle sounded.

FWEEE!

[FULL-TIME: Brazil 3-2 Uruguay]

BOOM!

The stadium exploded as Brazilian fans celebrated their progression to the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup with exuberant energy. Some fans even collapsed in tears, couples kissing their spouses passionately.

Neymar dropped to his knees, hands to the sky.

Raphinha pulled him up. The two embraced, eyes locked, knowing what this meant. Brazil was through to the Quarterfinals.

In the tunnel, Ancelotti gave a quiet nod.

No celebration. Just a look that said: Job not finished.

The post-match reactions were crazy.

Raphinha won the man of the match award for his vintage performance cemented by his brace. He, Neymar, and Ancelotti faced the media together.

Neymar was all smiles. "This one meant everything. I've waited years to wear this shirt again on this stage. We're not done".

Raphinha wiped his sweat. "People doubted me. Let them doubt. We're here to win".

Ancelotti was classic Ancelotti.

"It was a classic. But we must recover quickly. Bigger games are coming".
