Reverend Insanity: The Goody Two-Shoes System

Lord Sky Crane snarled as he assembled his cranes and ordered them to dive down. Up until this point, his attention had been somewhat split between fighting first gen Gu Yue and controlling his cranes.

That was one reason why Fang Yuan was able to deal with many of them very successfully. After Fang Yuan had killed the more powerful cranes, the other Gu Yue clan members had been able to overwhelm those who remained.

Now, however, Lord Sky Crane was completely concentrated on controlling his flock.

But before they could descend upon the village square, a massive membrane the color of blood erupted all around them. No matter how much the cranes tried, they could not pierce through it. Not even the Ironbeak Flying Crane King could make so much as a dent in this barrier.

No matter how much Lord Sky Crane tried using his own methods, he also could not pierce this veil.

"How do you like this?" first gen Gu Yue asked. "It is my unique invention. Blood Curtain Skyflower Gu. Once activated, no Rank 5 Gu Master can pierce through it!"

"Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!" Lord Sky Crane began cursing under his breath. A good portion of his flock had been killed, and a disproportionate number of high-ranking cranes had died thanks to Fang Yuan's actions. He could only curse as Fang Yuan approached first gen Gu Yue and handed him the bag of primeval stones.

"Very good, filial descendant of mine," first gen Gu Yue said. "You will be richly rewarded when all of this is over."

"Actually, your descendant has another present for you, first gen Gu Yue," Fang Yuan said. He took the Blood Wheel Chariot and motioned as if wanting first gen Gu Yue to take a closer look at it.

"What is this? Is that a Rank 4 Gu house?" First gen Gu Yue wondered, intrigued. "And so tiny at that - but it seems to be from the Blood Path, if I'm not mistaken."

"Indeed, I managed to find this," Fang Yuan said. "I was wondering if you could examine it and tell me more about it."

With this pretense, Fang Yuan brought the wheel even closer to first gen Gu Yue, who had not been expecting Fang Yuan to suddenly inject it with his own primeval essence, launching it at his chest.

Because of the short time interval, Fang Yuan had not been able to activate its full power, but it had still been more than strong enough to knock first gen Gu Yue outside the range of the Blood Curtain Skyflower.

The injuries dealt to first gen Gu Yue as a result of this assault were negligible, especially given that he was a zombie and any attack that did not destroy his brain would not be fatal.

However, the moment that first gen Gu Yue landed outside the barrier, there was silence throughout the battlefield. Nobody had been expecting events to take such a turn.

Lord Sky Crane stopped striking at the Blood Curtain Skyflower Gu's barrier.

The Gu Yue Clansmen around Fang Yuan looked at him with dumbfounded expressions until they finally found their voices.

"Clan head Fang Yuan, are you an idiot? He was our only hope to defeat Lord Sky Crane!"

"You bring shame upon all of us who share the Gu Yue name!"

"Indeed, how could you not support your own bloodline?"

"What are we going to do now - do you have the strength to challenge a Rank 5 Gu Master? You've just doomed us all!"

Fang Yuan raised his hand and said simply, "He was going to kill all of us. You were all going to be sheep foolishly nursing a maimed wolves' injuries until he finally recovered enough to eat you whole."

Most of the Gu Yue clansmen did not believe Fang Yuan and continued to berate him with insults.

Throughout this admonishment, laughter echoed throughout the village and cut through all of the cries of disbelief.

It was Bai Ning Bing.

"Very good, very good! Yes, Fang Yuan! That's what I'm talking about! Finally, something exciting happened today!"

Lord Sky Crane didn't fully understand what was going on but he did understand that first gen Gu Yue was now open to attack, and he immediately went to target him. "Hmph, look at that! Not even your descendants will aid a thief. This is only the fitting fruit of your treachery, senior brother. You betrayed me, and you have been betrayed by others. It is only fair. Truly, Heaven is just and balanced."

First gen Gu Yue was speechless. It took him the longest time to recover from what Fang Yuan had done as well as process it not because of pain from the attack or anything like that, but simply because he had not been expecting the attack.

Up until now, he had not shown any threatening motions towards any of the Gu Yue clansmen without reason, and Fang Yuan, despite his strength, would still need him to deal with Lord Sky Crane. That is why he had not thought that in a million years that Fang Yuan would do something like this.

He had also let his personal curiosity at seeing a Rank 4 Blood Path Gu house overcome him momentarily.

Now that he fully comprehended what had happened, he screamed in fury. "Junior, you dare! Courting death! Damn you! Damn you, you unfilial descendant! I will tear out your entrails and hang you from the nearest tree with them! I will grind your bones to dust! I will fill your sinuses with molten lead before I kill you! Even if you scream and beg for mercy, I will not stop torturing you until you die a thousand deaths before your true death, junior!"

Even as he screamed this, he began chomping on primeval stones, quickly swatting off the cranes which came to attack him with his massive claws.

"Lord Ancestor, come back within the wall to safety!" someone yelled out.

"There's no use," Fang Yuan said. "Once you leave the barrier, you can't come back in."

Several people completely disregarded what he said and rushed outside the barrier anyway to help first gen Gu Yue.

They quickly found that indeed, they couldn't come back, however, when he started slaughtering them, collecting their blood within a gu worm shaped like a skull that was all too familiar to Fang Yuan.

"Lord Ancestor? Why?" one of the Gu Yue clansmen asked before dying. He had tried to run away, but his back was now pressed up against Blood Curtain Skyflower Gu. The means that would've protected him had now turned into a wall that cut off his only route of escape.

"Because your surname is Gu Yue!" first gen Gu Yue said calmly after he had slaughtered the man, pouring the blood gathered from the gu worm over his head even as he fought.

"Like I told all of you idiots, he was going to kill us all," Fang Yuan said calmly, with the other Gu Yue clansmen still within the barrier now understanding that Fang Yuan had been correct all this time.

"What a vile ancestor!"

"Indeed- don't most ancestors come to help their clans in times of need?"

"How misfortunate we are to have an ancestor who is out to kill us instead!"

"I hate the fact that I'm related to him!"

"I think we should all change our surnames to something other than Gu Yue!"
