Chapter 6: Chapter 2340 – The Hour Before Dawn
Within Heavenly Court's hidden inner sanctum, Fang Yuan stood alone.
The ruins of the derivation formation glowed with traces of lingering starlight. Mist scattered, revealing the newly acquired Derivation Gu, pulsing faintly in his hands.
Beside it floated another Gu. This Gu was the size of a fist. It looked like a half-transparent moth which was pure silver in colour. It had two thin, black wings. The wings were twisted beyond recognition; it was as if they were burnt repeatedly. At the centre of the moth's body, there was an hour glass which had golden sand trickling in it. The sand was either falling or reversing; it sometimes stopped mid-descent. The moth's eyes were hollow but were filled with mysterious starlight. There was distortions of space around its body. There was a faint red layer coloured seal around its body but Fang Yuan removed it immediately.
It was Memory Eclipse Gu.
Fang Yuan's eyes narrowed. He could feel the pressure emanating from it, as though countless thoughts were echoing in a closed room. It had no killing intent, yet it exuded an oppressive aura. Faint, illusionary scenes flashed before his eyes; they were events that had never happened, or perhaps had once happened and were now erased.
"It's a (partial?) Rank nine Gu. But it's severely damaged and contaminated."
The Memory Eclipse Gu was unlike anything he had ever handled. Its dao marks were twisted, overlapping in ways that defied traditional refinement logic. He could sense the potential but also the risk.
Suddenly, immortal essence was poured into the Gu as it started to shake violently.
Buzz
His mind shook violently.
Fang Yuan's pupils contracted. For a brief moment, he forgot where he was. He felt as though he was standing in a battlefield from a different life, wielding Immortal Gu he had never refined, facing enemies he had never seen; but he quickly suppressed it.
He quickly suppressed the feedback using Soul Stabilization Anchor, a killer move which belonged to Soul path and Human path.
"This isn't just unstable. Its core refinement is incomplete. Someone tried to refine it through time path and soul path simultaneously and failed."
"Red Lotus?" Fang Yuan's thoughts turned.
"It is only a fragment; a shell. Still usable, but lacking several vital supporting Gu. Worse, the Gu had a trace of something else; a lingering presence, like a sealed will."
Fang Yuan could feel that using it recklessly would do more harm than good.
He didn't act further. Instead, he sealed Memory Eclipse Gu and stored it deep within his aperture – surrounded by layers of supression formations.
"It may become useful. But not now."
Saying this, Fang Yuan turned to look at Star Constellation.
...
Far away, in another part of Heavenly Court, Star Constellation Immortal Venerable hovered above layers of floating starlight clouds.
Her white robes fluttered softly. Her expression was calm, but her fingers tapped rhythmically against the jade slip in her hand.
"He took Derivation Gu."
"He disturbed Memory Eclipse Gu."
"He stole several secrets from the vault."
One by one, she projected images of the recent battle, her killer move Starlight Record Deduction replaying each moment from multiple perspectives.
She was clear of it now; Fang Yuan had a method to steal information from Heaven's will.
Her brows furrowed slightly.
"I need to isolate Heavenly Court from Heaven's will."
But Star Constellation knew this would not be easy. Heavenly Court was the largest Heaven path vein in the world; she either had to spend countless resources to build a formation like Crazed Demon formation or carry out all the activities in her grotto-heaven. But this was not plausible; Fang Yuan could still monitor her at all times.
She closed her eyes briefly. Starlight lit up behind her. She began making new schemes.
Meanwhile, Giant Sun Immortal Venerable hovered silently above the skies.
He looked into the depths of Heavenly Court, his eyes flickering with light. Derivation Gu's aura was gone. Fang Yuan had already taken it.
"Fang Yuan's timing was perfect. Too perfect."
He extended a hand. In his palm, golden mist gathered into a single coin-shaped Gu worm. The Gu trembled violently.
"My luck is unstable. A variable has taken root."
He let out a faint breath.
"Is it Fang Yuan? Or… Primordial Origin?"
He did not move. Not yet. Giant Sun was a reaper; the harvest was not yet ripe.
Suddenly, a violent tremor echoed through the entirety of Heavenly Court.
Boom!
A pulse of ancient will surged from the earth.
The sky darkened. Starlight dimmed. Space began to crack. All three Venerables turned toward the same direction – the sealed chamber in the core of Heavenly Court.
Primordial Origin Immortal Venerable's aura surged.
It was like a storm rolling over a mountain range, the pressure was completely different than before.
Star Constellation's eyes turned sharp.
She immediately transmitted to both Venerables.
"Help me suppress it. If he awakens now, neither of you will benefit."
Star Constellation knew this wasn't the right moment to revive Primodial Origin; there were just too many variables. If Primodial Origin reviews amidst the three venerables war, he might get caught in an akward situation. Besides, she can't afford to overlook any of the three venerables.
"Master's soul foundation isn't enough to sustain attacks from the three venerables; i need to look after him while also protecting the core of Heavenly Court. It'd be even worse if Heaven's will got a hold on him and made him into its puppet! I need to atleast weaken the three venerables before finding opportunities to revive him." Star Constellation let out a breath of tubrid air and looked at Giant Sun.
Giant Sun didn't answer. Fang Yuan let out a soft snort.
"Trying to use your ancestor's revival as leverage?" he replied calmly.
But his thoughts turned serious.
Even from this distance, he could feel Memory Eclipse Gu pulsing faintly within him; it was resonating with the same will that leaked from the depths of the earth.
A tiny ripple passed through his soul. He turned his head abruptly.
"...Did I already say that? Or am I about to?"
His perception twisted for a brief moment. His thoughts doubled over one another. He quickly sealed Memory Eclipse Gu even further.
Fang Yuan's eyes turned even colder.
"Even if it's damaged, this Gu is too dangerous to use casually."
He turned to retreat. The time was not right to confront Primordial Origin's corpse or its defenses.
But just as he was about to use a killer move, a figure approached.
A shadow cloaked in starlight.
One of Star Constellation's clones — fully focused on delay.
She didn't speak. Instead, she activated a killer move without hesitation. Beams of starlight rained down like falling stars, each one piercing time and space.
Fang Yuan raised his hand.
A black wave swept out. Reverse Flow Reversion activated, sending the starlight beams flying backward in time.
He didn't stop. He simply stepped into the reversed tide and vanished.
The clone watched silently.
Then turned back.
...
Giant Sun was observing everything from above.
"So even Fang Yuan hesitated."
"Then I was right to wait."
He turned his gaze toward Star Constellation. His thoughts shifted.
"The closer Primordial Origin comes to revival, the more desperate she'll become. It's time I paid a visit to the Blood Path Vault."
A faint golden smile appeared on his face.
[Note: I will tell more about Memory Eclipse Gu next chapter. I'm also planning to (hopefully) publish at least 1 chapter every 1-2 days. That being said, thank you for reading.]
