Chapter 5: Misinformation
Let's cut to the chase, shall we?
We begin our chapter with the king, the king sat upright on his grand, velvet-lined bed, cloaked in the quiet tension of impending duty. Beside him, the queen reclined with regal ease, her legs crossed, her gaze fixed on the slow, deliberate strokes of teal polish gracing her nails. The colour shimmered like still water under moonlight, despite being one of the least emotional women in her world, she always cared about how she wanted to be represented. In fact she had even razed whole villages just for the resources to make herself the most beautiful of outfits and the most mesmerizing of colours. Even as something as her nail polish, she wanted it to be fitting of her, teal was mysterious, elegant, and unreadable, just like her. The king put his hand on her shoulder as she looked at him in her cold gaze, to which he responded with the same sort of attitude. However, he had some words to share with her.
"Get ready, we must not delay. I am going to get prepared for the announcement, I shall meet you at the tower."
She sighed as she tossed the glass container of the polish into the couch across the room, before getting dressed into her armoured dress. A lethal beauty, or to say it in French? A femme fatale.. I guess, I should really brush up on my French. The king got dressed in his own armour, stretched his back. Before he went towards his balcony, gazing upon the people down below. The worms, the scum that does the bidding of a higher being such as him and his wife. Down the hall, servants scattered like leaves in wind. They knew when to be invisible. The queen emerged from her chamber shortly after, her armoured gown whispering menace with each step. The steel was tempered in myth and legend, rumour said. More truthfully, it was forged with the tears of subjugated blacksmiths and the non-existent blood of who dared to cross her.
The edges of her shoulder plates curved into deadly scythes that threatened to turn anyone who even wishes to come close to turn into ribbons. The king was next to his queen as he took her hand and they walked out of the balcony, and now were on their way to the tower. During their walk inside the castle, the queen actually spoke to her husband.
"Aren't we going to take the brats?"
The king scoffed as he turned his head and looked at her while they were walking across the hallway towards the inner staircase of the Castle's tower, he responds.
"I already had one of the servants usher them here, they should be up and waiting for us."
And so they walked up the staircase, it was a long walk. They had already told the townsfolk of an announcement this day, In fact. They didn't complain about the long walk, they made the tower to stand tall. So that the walk takes time and for the suspense and fear of the peasants to grow heavy, as they were finally on top.
Mateo and Icarus were wearing royal garbs, they weren't used or truly comfortable in these clothes. They were also with heavy frowns, completely expected of the sudden orphans. The king gave them an intimidating look, although it was difficult to say what exactly was NOT intimidating about him. He did a small cough to basically signal to them to focus, as he walked forward to be the most seen person. As the people looked up from down below, like the ants.
"My people! I am here to announce, that I have been gracious to be able to meet these two boys. Their poor parents, they fell into one of the harshest ailments that a being could ever suffer! The type that can't be solved through medicine or hard work, they fell into a madness in the desert. They fought and clawed at each other, so let us have a moment of silent for these two's previous parents."
The townsfolk bowed their head as they seemed to be in grief, although it was hard to understand if they were actually in grief or just obeying the orders of the "benevolent" king. The king started speaking once more, it seems he has many faces. And this benevolent yet serious face was the one that he showed to the people.
"So, Me and your Queen have decided to take it upon ourselves and be the new parents of these boys. You may call them, Prince Mateo and Prince Icarus. This is a new affirmative."
The people clapped their hands, it was definitely a new feeling for the boys who were still suffering inner distraught about their parents now being very much dead. Although there was a linger of hope, that maybe things won't be that bad. Childish innocence, as expected. The boys were now being signed with new names, well... New last names to be more exact. And to sugarcoat it, they were now added into a Royal school for only the privileged and the elite. This begins a new chapter into the lives of the boys, this is getting exciting. We are forced to cut here, because I believe that you don't know much about this world. Do you? Don't worry, I will make sure you know a lot next time.
Maybe I will even tell you, who I might be.
