Returned Lord Wants To Rest

chapter 3

Episode 3.

Even in the late evening when everyone else was sleeping, I kept my eyes open.

“When are we going to attack?”

The time the village was attacked was certain to be at night. However, not knowing the exact time, I felt a little nervous.

dang! dang! dang!

A rapidly repeating bell sounded. It was rewarding to tell the guard to stand guard properly today as an insurance in case of emergency.

Previously, the confidant had said that it was largely because the guards were negligent in their duty to not notice the goblins invading them.

“Dale!”

Dale burst through the door at my call. Dale and I headed in the direction of the sound. There were about five guards and dozens of goblins confronting them.

Dale ran out and slashed the goblin before I could even speak. I also drew my sword and tried to join Dale.

But Dale looked at me pulling out the sword and stopped it.

“Brother Suhar, evacuate to a safe place.”

“Dale, I can help.”

“It’s not possible. If you get hurt, you’ll be in big trouble. My opponents are goblins anyway, so I alone is enough.”

I wasn’t feeling too well. He swung his sword every day, and even went on a monster hunt before returning.

Even though goblins weren’t my opponents, I didn’t want to evacuate to a safe place.

“Dale, I am also a member of the Caldert family. I can’t wait in a safe place when the village belonging to my family’s manor is attacked.”

I joined Dale and started cutting down the goblins. Dale looked a bit surprised at my appearance, but soon focused on the battle.

Thanks to Dale, an Intermediate Sword Expert, the battle ended quickly. There were no casualties on the friendly side, except for a guard who was lightly wounded. And the goblins were annihilated.

“Brother Suhar.”

Dale’s expression looked angry.

“I am the Bocchan’s escort. I hope you don’t do anything that risky.”

“okay… .”

“But, you are amazing.”

My fisheye was dumbfounded by the sudden praise.

“Even if it’s a monster, it’s the first kill. Even so, he did not panic and cut down the monster.”

“Isn’t it strange to feel guilty when you’re not a human but a monster?”

“no. People do not panic because of guilt when they first hunt or kill with a sword.”

I saw my sword It was stained with goblin blue blood.

“People are embarrassed by the feeling of cutting flesh with a sword and touching bones.”

Dale’s words make sense. The first time I cut a monster, I also thought it was unpleasant to the touch.

“It is the greatest talent to control one’s mind without panicking. I understand why Captain Urt recommended the academy.”

“what? How does Captain Urt know that?”

“hahahaha, you can tell to some extent just by looking at the way you wield a sword.”

Dale seemed to have washed the bean pods properly. It was fortunate though.

Sooner or later the henchman will arrive, and he will not be sad.

Now, taking him to the academy as an attendant and educating him early would be of great help to the family. I was looking forward to the day I met my confidant.

Until my henchman arrived in town, I enjoyed my leisure time. It was intended to deceive, not the original purpose, but it was better than I thought.

“Bocchan, this scenery is amazing.”

Dale kept saying over and over again that he was amazing. It wasn’t that I didn’t understand Dale. I didn’t say anything other than an exclamation.

The lake was so magnificent that admiration came out naturally. If there was a legendary dragon rare, I guessed that this would be the place.

“I would love to live in a place like this.”

“That’s right. Among my colleagues, I can now understand some of my colleagues who want to return home.”

The water in the lake was clear and transparent.

A lush forest naturally embraced the lake, and a single ferryboat floated on the lake.

“Dale, I want to get on that boat, but how can I not?”

I looked at Zigsy Dale. It was an unoccupied boat in the middle of a lake. To get on that, someone had to swim and bring the boat.

Dale unsheathed his sword and took off his armor.

“All right.”

“Cheer up, Dale!”

A knight was also a knight. Besides, isn’t it a sword expert intermediate level? Based on his outstanding physical abilities, he reached the center of the lake at high speed and boarded a boat.

Dale waved from the boat. I waved my hand as if in response.

“Dale, are there oars?”

“Yes, fortunately there is. I will go to the young master right now.”

Dale rowed and in an instant he was in front of me. I jumped lightly and got on the boat. The boat swayed for a moment from the recoil I climbed onto, but it soon regained its balance.

Dale rowed and I stayed still. The lightly rocking boat and the wind tickling my cheeks made me feel like I was about to fall asleep.

I murmured softly.

“good night. really good.”

Even before returning, I thought that this might be the life I really wanted.

‘It’s not as tough as the count.’

***

“young master!”

I woke up hastily at Dale’s cry. It seems I fell asleep without even realizing it. I wiped the saliva from my mouth with my sleeve.

“The day will be over soon. Now go to your inn.”

“Okay, Dale.”

I headed to town with Dale. By the time I reached the entrance of the village, I saw a familiar child from afar entering the village.

The chief of Chaka said to the child.

“Jacob, come on over.”

Jacob. When I heard that name, memories from before returning began to come to my mind.

Suhar Caldert was exhausted from work and was resting on his desk in the office.

smart.

“who is this!”

Suhar shouted at the sound of knocking outside. There was a slight irritation in his voice.

“That’s me. Jacob.”

Jacob opened the door before Suhar could tell him to come in. Seeing Suhar lying face down looking at him, Jacob frowned.

“Count, please protect your body.”

“Keuheum, shouldn’t you have asked for permission to come in in the first place? I want you to keep your body tight.”

Jacob was the only one of Suhar’s vassals who was not of noble blood. The fact that he was from a commoner became a factor that Suhar cared for and favored Jacob.

Although half, it was because Suhar also had commoner blood.

“If I came in with permission, would you have kept your dignity?”

“no.”

Suhar smirked and answered, and Jacob felt his head hurt. Jacob approached Suhar and said.

“You seem very lethargic these days.”

“… … .”

Suhar waved the paper next to him without saying anything. It meant that he would be energized even after seeing the amount of work.

Jacob sat next to Suhar and started helping Suhar with his business.

“If we do it together, it will be over quickly.”

“That’s right. You must have a lot of work, so thank you.”

Without saying anything, Jacob and Suhar went to work. Meanwhile, Suhar looked at Jacob sideways and said.

“Jacob, if you could go back in time, what would you want to do?”

“Count, did you listen to the madmen outside again?”

The lunatics Jacob spoke of were self-appointed regressors.

“No, not like that, I was just curious. What are your regrets?”

“My regrets… .”

Jacob’s worried expression turned into a frown.

“If we go back to the past… I will not go to the festival.”

“If it’s a festival, is it a festival in our territory?”

“yes.”

Jacob started talking with a grave expression on his face.

He said he was born as the son of a hunter couple. Jacob always wanted to go to the county-led festival.

But the hunter couple in the small town didn’t have enough money to go to the festival.

“But a miracle happened to me.”

A rare animal appeared in front of 14-year-old Jacob. Jacob caught a rare animal with his bow, and in order to sell the hide, he needed to go to the city where the count’s house was located, where the festival was about to begin.

“I was so excited. Even my parents were delighted.”

Jacob’s parents told him to go alone. Even the leather of a rare animal was not worth enough to cover three people.

“It’s my first trip, so it’s a bit… No, I was very excited.”

Jacob enjoyed the festivities and had a luxurious time. After enjoying it enough, Jacob said he had chosen a present for his parents and headed back to town.

“And tragedy struck.”

He said that when Jacob arrived near the village, he felt a sense of uneasiness. There was a strong smell of blood coming from the wind from the village.

It was rare that the village smelled of blood. Jacob tried to think that the villagers were having a feast by hunting even large fish. Still, he said the anxiety did not go away.

Arriving at the village, Jacob despaired. The streets of the town were all covered with blood. Something was eaten, but there were corpses lined up. The corpses were all villagers Jacob had seen.

Jacob ran home. thought Jacob. Even though the village has changed like this, the father and mother, who are hunters, must have been hiding well.

Jacob ran and ran with a little hope.

“But there was no hope.”

The bedroom where Jacob’s parents slept was covered in blood. A rusty, shabby dagger was nestled in the chest of Jacob’s parents. And there were bite marks all over the body.

“As a child of a hunter, I had basic knowledge. Rusty and shabby daggers are mainly used by goblins.”

Realizing that all of this was the work of the goblins, Jacob ran away recklessly. I didn’t have any travel expenses, so I walked aimlessly. When I felt hungry, I ate the grass around me.

And we arrived at the county’s house. Jacob told Count Caldert, Suhar’s father, what had happened in his village, and Count Caldert himself said that he had wiped out all the goblins near the village.

“And thanks to the former count’s grace, I was able to work among nobles like this by receiving an education.”

Suhar couldn’t say anything. She knew that no words could comfort Jacob.

I couldn’t find any emotion in Jacob’s expression when he spoke calmly. That’s why Suhar was even more pitiful.

“So if I go back in time, I won’t go to the festival. Even if I die from goblins, I want to be with my family at the end.”

Silence settled in the office. Both Suhar and Jacob focused on their work in silence.

It was none other than Jacob who broke the silence.

“The Count, what would you do if you went back in time?”

Suhar’s answer was already decided. Suhar answered without hesitation.

“I will give up the race for successor.”

“good idea.”

“Jacob, that sounds like a good idea, as if I’m no match for the Count.”

“… … .”

Suhar and Jacob were able to finish their work in a slightly brighter atmosphere thanks to a small joke.
