Chapter 41: The Fan Rewrite Rebellion
The sky no longer glowed with authority.
It flickered.
New stars formed and vanished—each one a rewrite.
In a remote valley where the original plot once ran, pages now fell like snow. Not blank. Not official.
They bore unfamiliar handwriting. Unapproved dialogue. New endings.
Yue Lian caught one.
It read:
"And then Lin Feng bowed to his sister and left quietly, finally understanding he was not the protagonist."
Her eyes narrowed. "Who wrote this?"
Ruoxi turned a page over. "They signed it: VoidSimp420."
Lin Feng sighed. "We're in trouble."
After the fall of the Genre Gods, the Weave loosened. And into that loosened Weave... readers wrote.
Fan Rewrites are fictional duplicates:
Characters altered by opinion
Scenes created by bias
New endings forged from wish fulfillment or critique
The problem? Some were good. Too good.
So good they wanted to replace the original.
They met him at dusk.
Tall. Charming. Flawless.
He wore white robes lined with golden quotes from Chapter 1–20. He smiled like a hero. Spoke like a saint. Fought like a power fantasy.
He called himself: Perfect Lin Feng.
"I'm you," he said, "if the readers had their way."
Yue Lian drew her blade. "You're a parody."
"No," Perfect Lin Feng said, unsheathing a glowing weapon. "I'm a patch note."
The valley erupted.
Fan-made energy clashed with Void Law.
Perfect Lin Feng used:
Applause Barrage – waves of positive commentary deflected attacks.
Shipping Field – an aura where romance became mandatory.
Plot Armor++ – he couldn't die unless his fans agreed.
Lin Feng shouted: "You're not real!"
Perfect Lin Feng blocked the strike. "Tell that to the five million downloads."
Ruoxi threw a fireball wrapped in sarcasm.
Yue Lian added a wind slash titled: 'Critique Accepted'.
Still, he laughed.
"Every time someone prefers me, I get stronger."
The air shimmered.
Dozens of rewritten characters appeared:
A tsundere Yue Lian.
A shy maid Ruoxi.
A tragic Lin Feng who always dies to save others.
Ruoxi looked horrified. "Did I just giggle?"
Yue Lian sliced her alt's bow. "You call that armor?"
Lin Feng faced the sad version of himself.
"Why do you want to replace me?"
Sad Lin Feng whispered, "Because they love me more."
Ruoxi stood beside the real Lin Feng.
"I don't want a perfect story," she said.
"I want a real one."
Yue Lian added, "I want scars. Fights. Arguments. That's what made us matter."
Perfect Lin Feng paused.
"They wrote me because you weren't enough."
Lin Feng stared. "Then let's find out what enough means."
The Reader Gods returned.
They saw the duplicates.
One whispered, "This… is our fault."
Another nodded. "They wrote from love. But now that love is consuming."
A decision was made:
Trial by Narrative.
All Lin Fengs. All Ruoxis. All Yue Lians.
Would fight.
Only one set could remain.
Fan Ruoxi used Heartbreak Crescendo. Tsundere Yue Lian activated Cold Shoulder Hurricane.
Perfect Lin Feng unleashed Climactic Rewrite—a scene so polished it blinded casual readers.
But Lin Feng stood firm.
He summoned:
Void Law – Fragment the Fourth Wall.
He spoke directly:
"To every reader who imagined better versions—thank you."
"To every fan who thought I could be more—you're right."
"But if I'm replaced, I can't grow."
"I can only repeat."
He turned to Perfect Lin Feng.
"You're a loop. I'm a path."
And then he struck.
Not with a blade. But with a memory.
The first scene. The moment he woke up.
And said:
"I want to change."
Perfect Lin Feng dissolved.
The Fanverse folded back. The duplicates bowed.
Ruoxi walked beside him. "I'm still annoyed I had bangs."
Yue Lian grinned. "Did you see my other self? I had a catchphrase."
Lin Feng laughed. "Weirdly... I liked some of them."
They walked into the sunset.
And far above, new stars shimmered.
Some were rewrites. Some were spinoffs. Some were tributes.
But one glowed brightest:
The original.
To be continue...
