Chapter 179: I Have Proof
[That same night.]
Christopher slowly opened his eyes, a renewed sense of energy coursing through him.
"Finally stabilized the ice primordial flame... This is good progress." He shifted his gaze to the beasts gathered before him.
"It seems you all broke through to the Divine rank. Well... most of you."
Reaper, the wolf cub, leaped onto the bed. "Thanks to Master's increase in strength."
"You... you can now speak?" Christopher asked, surprised.
"Yes," Reaper replied. "I'm a Divine stage beast now, so yeah."
Christopher chuckled, watching the wolf cub. "Okay, all of you should get some sleep; tomorrow will be a big day."
But before he could lie down, Tiamat appeared before him. "I think I found my third piece!" she exclaimed.
Christopher blinked, staring at her in shock. "You think?" he asked.
"Yes," Tiamat insisted, holding her jaw. "I know where it is, but the energy is kind of... a mess."
"In a mess? You're confusing me even more," Christopher said, a deep frown on his face.
Tiamat turned to him. "Forget all that, the main thing is that I found my second soul piece, and it's time to retrieve it!"
"Calm down," Christopher said. "In percentages, how sure are you that it's yours?"
"70%," Tiamat answered after a moment's thought.
"70% is very high. Okay, where is it?" Christopher's tone grew serious.
"Third Continent."
"Come again?!" Christopher was stunned.
"The Third Continent? That will take more than seven days going and coming!" he yelled.
"We can take that thing that flies in the sky," Tiamat pointed out. "It'll take at least two days."
"You mean an airplane?" Christopher sighed softly.
"Okay... but we can't just leave. And I don't know if the Third Continent is safe. We must be prepared for anything." He lay down on the bed.
"What are you doing?" Tiamat asked, confused.
"What do you think? Of course, sleeping."
"What about my soul piece? You haven't decided what to do."
Christopher sat up, his gaze moving from his beasts to Tiamat. "I want to, but I can't leave Cordelia, not now, when dangers are right around the corner. We'll go after the attack."
Tiamat stared at him for a few seconds, sighed, and flew toward him, re-entering his consciousness.
"Okay... whenever you're ready," her voice echoed in his head.
Christopher exhaled, picked up his phone, and made a call. "Xing, I need all the information about the Third Continent. Their leaders, generals, and the beasts that frequently attack them."
"Huh? Okay, Master... but it will take time."
"How long will it take?"
"Five days at most."
Christopher thought about the timeline, then nodded. "Okay, you have three days. Send it to my email when you're done." He hung up.
_____
[Xing's Home.]
Xing removed the phone from her ear, her face a mix of confusion and frustration.
"Three days? Although I'm the second-best hacker in the world, I'm not a god. As the first, shouldn't you know all this?" She flopped onto her bed.
"You just had to trouble this little girl." She grumbled, turning her head to her laptop.
"Nope! I'm starting tomorrow! I guess I won't be of any help against the beast attacking. Why am I worried? He'll be there." She closed her eyes.
____
[The Next Day - Cordelia Front Gate.]
At the front gate of Cordelia, all high-level tamers and awakeners stood, staring at the clear landscape. Not a single soul was in sight. The Cordelia General stepped forward, turning to face the assembled soldiers.
"Today! We will protect our home and families from a sky-stage beast! No matter how strong the beast is! We will join and defeat it together! Nothing will stand before us, we will take it down!" he yelled.
"Don't think about anything! Just get ready to fight! No matter what happens today, this beast must be taken down!"
"YES!!!"
The soldiers roared in unison. None were armed with guns, as the attacking beast was completely immune to bullets.
Philip stood on the wall with Zenith beside him, both in military uniforms.
"Can't this beast be tamed?" Philip asked out of curiosity.
"It can, but only by a tamer stronger than a Supreme level," Zenith answered with a flat expression.
"Cordelia doesn't have such a figure."
"What if we have?" Philip asked.
Zenith turned to him, a frown on her face. "Who?"
WHOOSH.
The soldiers, numbering in the hundreds, raised their heads to the sky as countless aerial beasts flew toward them. Leading the group was a massive, golden, sky-stage dragon. The dragon stopped above the soldiers, its shadow blocking the sunlight.
Five figures jumped down, landing lightly on the wall: Christopher, Advika, Katherine, Adonis, and Leyla.
...Followed by more young men and women, who jumped down from their own beasts, landing on the wall. These were the participants from the academy competition, those who had agreed to help.
"Young Master Christopher, Young Master Tony... Thanks for coming," Philip said with a smile, walking toward them.
"It's nothing, we're here to help," Tony said calmly, turning his head to the horizon. "It seems we are early."
"It seems so," Zenith said, turning to Christopher. "Thank you for coming."
Christopher nodded at her and walked to the edge of the wall. "I sent a scout last night, and this morning, I received bad news."
Philip and Zenith frowned.
"That beast... it isn't the only one coming to Cordelia. In fact, the whole world is under attack as we speak," Christopher revealed.
"....??!!"
The crowd of soldiers gasped in shock.
"What do you mean by that, Christopher?" the general asked, flying towards them and hovering in mid-air, arms crossed.
"I'm saying the sky-stage beast will reach here first. After them, we're facing a monster raid. Tens of thousands of monsters, with the weakest having the strength of an Elite stage beast." Christopher said calmly.
Everyone's expression changed.
"The Intel said the monsters would attack tomorrow, why now?" Zenith asked.
"General Zenith!" a lady shouted, rushing towards them with a laptop in hand.
"What happened?" Zenith asked.
"You have to see this, General!" The lady opened her laptop and showed a live video feed from a drone hundred miles away.
Everyone except Christopher was stunned. The monsters were on their way, but they weren't walking; they were running like their lives depended on the attack.
"Something must have happened... These monsters weren't this fast two days ago," the lady reported.
"You said it, something must have happened."
They all turned to Christopher, a frown on their faces.
"The half-celestial stage beast that will reach here in a month's time... the one who sent it is also the one who sent these monsters. That monster is our main enemy," he said.
The group stared at him in confusion.
"I know most of you don't know this, but two monsters are after Cordelia. I don't know why, but they want Cordelia to fall. One is known as Darkness, and the one who sent the crocodile... I don't know." He sighed.
"A monster that can send a half-celestial stage beast all the way here isn't weak..."
"What are you saying, then?" the general asked.
"Nothing, actually. I just wanted you all to know this. Darkness hasn't made a move yet... well, he already did." He turned to Philip.
"The zombies you encountered on your mission... that's Darkness's doing."
"You? How do you know I went on a mission?" Philip was stunned.
"I have eyes everywhere. Cordelia must be safe, so I tend to keep an eye on all important figures." He looked at the general. "Every one of them."
Zenith nodded and turned to the soldiers below the wall. "Change of plans!" she yelled.
"Please! All of you should pick up your weapons! It turns out we aren't just facing the sky-stage beast today but also a monster raid! The number of monsters? No one knows that, all we know is... these monsters will reach here in two hours, tops!"
The gate opened, and men in uniforms drove cars filled with guns. They quickly got out and started distributing the weapons to the soldiers.
Christopher nodded in satisfaction and turned to his family. Meanwhile, the general moved back to his men.
"You guys must stay with me at all times. No rushing forward unless we are needed," he said, and the four of them nodded.
"You should also stay close, Addison," he added, looking at Addison, who slowly nodded.
"I will," she said.
"Young Master Christopher... Can I ask you something in private?" Zenith asked.
Christopher looked over his shoulder at her and nodded. "Sure... lead the way."
__
The two stood a few meters away from everyone. After some hesitation, Zenith asked:
"When you said you were keeping an eye on everyone... the look you gave the general, what does it mean? Is he a traitor?"
Christopher turned to her with a frown. "It seems you already suspected him."
She nodded. "Yes... but I don't have any proof."
"I have one," Christopher said with a smile.
"Really?" Zenith was stunned.
