Chapter 43: Restart, Spider-Man! [43]
Outside the Star Castle, in a rural village, a motorcycle roared past, kicking up clouds of dust. The shield adorned with a star frequently flew from Steve's hands, relentlessly attacking the village's natives.
Beep, beep
The village's aerial surveillance system continuously blared alarms, while Steve's face lit up with excitement.
"Guys, they've spotted us! Let's go! Kill them all, and we'll definitely get to join the Exile Journey."
Without waiting for his teammates' response, he continued his merciless slaughter of the villagers, all while introducing himself to the surveillance cameras.
"Welcome to Freedom America! You're watching Peace Every Day—I'm Soldier Boy, also known as Captain America..."
"Let's see where the disaster is happening today. Oh, it's your home! Lucky you."
He steered his motorcycle straight into a wooden house, screaming with delight, "Thanos, I love you!"
Boom!
The house collapsed, instantly burying the villagers inside.
Boom!
An alloy arrow suddenly descended from the sky, triggering explosions across the village and setting the entire place ablaze.
Clint Barton, with cold eyes, ignored the villagers' screams as he continued firing explosive arrows, each one taking more lives.
"Hey, Hawkeye, any tips on killing people?" Natasha asked as she passed by, holding dual pistols and expertly picking off fleeing villagers, her eyes filled with envy.
The more they killed, the greater their chances of joining the Exile Journey.
Barton smirked. "Cap taught me: start with the elderly and the kids."
"Oh, wonderful! Look at the brain matter flying everywhere," Natasha complimented.
Elsewhere, Bruce Banner, in his Hulk form, roared as he stomped on the bodies of the villagers, his eyes glowing red as he glared ahead.
"Elderly and kids—let me kill them first!"
Hulk, roaring like a bulldozer, rampaged through the village, leaving no bodies intact.
"Well done, Hulk! Don't leave anyone alive."
Steve zoomed past on his bike, his shield slicing through the flesh of the villagers in a bloodbath.
"Is that all you've got, Natasha? Your kill rate is pathetic!" he taunted loudly.
"Cap, I want to say something to you—motherf...," Natasha cursed under her breath.
At the entrance to the village, Loki, watching this scene unfold, was completely stunned.
"They're even more evil than me... No, I can't lose to them!"
He rushed toward the village, but Hulk blocked his path.
Roar!
Hulk roared, "I warn you, this is our territory."
Loki wiped the spit off his face and sneered. "You impostors, I'll make you—No!!"
Before he could finish his threat, Hulk grabbed Loki by the legs and slammed him left and right.
Bam, bam, bam!
Within seconds, a battered Loki lay in a crater, staring blankly at the blood-stained sky, tears sliding down the corner of his eyes.
"Hah, so much for a god," Hulk scoffed as he turned away, his voice full of mockery.
Soon, the Titan Guard arrived on the scene, but the Avengers had no intention of fleeing.
Seeing the gruesome carnage before them, the Titan Guards were stunned by the brutality and immediately activated their control devices.
Zzzzz...
Electric currents surged, and Steve and the others collapsed, convulsing on the ground.
Loki, foaming at the mouth, lay there speechless: "..."
——
Back at the restaurant, the live feed abruptly cut off, and everyone glanced at Xia Luo with fear in their eyes.
"They look just like him... Are they from the same species?"
"What a terrifying alien race. So cruel."
"Don't look at him, just keep your head down."
"They'll kill us for sure."
The atmosphere in the restaurant dropped to freezing, and Xia Luo furrowed his brows.
"They attacked the ordinary citizens of Titan just to join the Exile Journey."
The regular Titan natives didn't have any special powers, and they stood no chance against the Avengers' slaughter.
Tony's face darkened, and he crushed the cup in his hand, startling everyone in the restaurant.
"Damn them!" he growled through gritted teeth.
Elder Steve's face was equally grim. "I knew something was off. They're Avengers, but they're not heroes."
Lizard Parker looked down at the plate of grilled meat he had just ordered and suddenly lost his appetite.
Beside him, Peggy Carter trembled slightly, clearly unsettled by what she had witnessed.
Elder Steve noticed and asked, "What's wrong?"
Carter shook her head, her voice heavy with exhaustion.
"Watching this reminds me of the Steve I knew. I trusted him and let him take part in the super-soldier experiment, but his ambition was beyond what I imagined. He killed me, took control of all my resources, and by now, he might already be the leader of Hydra."
Gripped by painful memories, she clenched her fists, closing her eyes as she quickly regained her composure. She still showed no sign of weakness.
"So that's why you don't want to deal with the Steves. I understand now," Elder Steve said, finally understanding.
Hearing her mention Hydra Cap, Xia Luo's mind began to race.
"Agent Carter, I want to ask, is Hydra Cap really strong?"
Carter's expression became serious as she slowly replied, "Yes, he's extremely powerful. The super-soldier serum he took was an improved version, and it enhanced his body to an incredible degree—he's got at least 40 tons of strength. Later, he gained access to Hydra's dark powers, making him more ruthless. He could easily take down a thousand well-armed soldiers on his own, and he has abilities I don't even know about. He's a true monster."
"Why are you asking about him?" she asked, puzzled, as she looked at Xia Luo.
Xia Luo glanced up at the ceiling. "I was just curious."
"So, you were killed by him, weren't you? That explains it," Elder Steve said, immediately calling him out.
Xia Luo scowled. "Old man, you sure don't sound like someone who died of old age."
"No need to remind me," Elder Steve muttered, lowering his head awkwardly.
Seeing Xia Luo admit it, Carter seemed surprised. "So we're from the same world?"
She had already guessed that the contestants were from different parallel universes.
Not just her—all the contestants had likely figured that out and quickly adapted to the pace of the resurrection matches.
After all, their understanding of the world, their adaptability, and their ability to process information far surpassed that of ordinary people.
As for Carter's question, Xia Luo didn't confirm or deny it—he simply wasn't sure. But if they won this resurrection match and Carter revived alongside him, everything would become clear.
Soon, another news bulletin came over the speakers.
"Breaking news: 393 people have been confirmed dead in Orpheus Village. Five culprits have been sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole."
"Titan's legal system moves fast. They've already sentenced them," Xia Luo noted.
Tony, suppressing his anger, added, "Even with charges like that, they still can't get into the Exile Journey. We're in more trouble than we thought."
"Yes," Carter sighed. "There's no way we can do what they did. And I can't imagine what Thanos must've done to get exiled from Titan."
Xia Luo rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "If we can't do bad things, then we'll just have to make them think we did."
Lizard Parker, who had been hesitating over whether to eat the grilled meat, suddenly looked up and grinned wickedly.
"I've got experience with that."
