Reincarnation: No Longer Your Love's Replacement

Chapter 6: Confession at the Grave on a Stormy Night

Late at night, a torrential rainstorm raged on.

The heavy downpour lashed against the car windows, the continuous pitter, patter sound sending shivers to one's heart.

Squeak.

The car stopped.

The cemetery was silent and eerily cold. The chill crept up Nadi's legs. She was dressed so thinly that the cold rain seemed to pierce her bones.

She followed Adi deeper and deeper inside.

After what seemed like an eternity, they finally stopped in front of a tombstone. Adi said coldly, "Kneel down!"

The words "Wife of Aditya Rahman, Aisha Safiya's Tomb" stabbed into Nadi's eyes. She felt a ringing in her ears. Whatever Adi was saying, she couldn't hear a thing.

Her heart ached until numbness set in, unable to feel any more pain.

She was Adi's lawfully wedded wife!

Back then, she had asked for a divorce, but Adi had refused!

Now, Adi had given the title of wife to Aisha, who had falsely accused her!

Tears fell from the corners of Nadi's eyes, mixing with the rain. No one but herself knew that she was crying.

"I'll say this one last time," After a thunderous roar, Adi's voice was even more frightening than the thunder, "Kneel down, admit your crime, apologize to Aisha, or get back to jail and wait for the news of your mother's death!"

A bright bolt of lightning struck down. Adi saw Nadi's face clearly. It seemed full of deep sorrow and despair.

For a moment, Adi felt a twinge of pity. But the next second, looking at the black and white photo of Aisha on the tombstone, his heart turned as hard as steel again.

He squinted, his cold gaze sharper than a knife.

"Countdown," Adi started counting down, "Five, four..."

Bang. Nadi bent her knees. Her knees hit the cold, hard cement surface with a loud sound. The rainwater in the puddles splashed high.

"Aisha, I was wrong."

"Louder!" Adi ordered Nadi, even pressing her neck to make her kowtow.

Nadi's heart ached desperately as the man who had loved her for many years forced her to kowtow to Aisha, the real culprit behind all this self - directed drama.

She was wrong. She shouldn't have fallen in love with Adi!

If she hadn't loved Adi, would all this not have happened?

Her forehead was soaking wet. She didn't know if it was rainwater or blood, or perhaps a mixture of both.

Nadi couldn't feel the pain.

"Aisha, I was wrong!! I'm kowtowing to you and apologizing!!" Nadi raised her voice, continuously shouting in a loop. As she did so, she kowtowed with even more force, as if she didn't care about her life anymore.

A flicker of vengeful satisfaction flashed in Adi's dark eyes.

He stared at Aisha's photo on the tombstone, thinking in his heart, Aisha, I finally made the murderer who killed you admit to her past crimes.

In the photo, Aisha had a faint smile on her lips, looking gentle and kind, which made Adi instantly recall their first meeting when she had saved him.

The beautiful memory slightly melted the frost on Adi's face, but only for a few seconds. After that, the frost on his face became even colder.

"Nadi, tonight, you kneel here," Adi said coolly, "If you can endure this, I will release you from prison. At that time, you can naturally take care of your mother."

"Otherwise..." He didn't continue, leaving a sneer and walking away with an umbrella.

Only Nadi was left kneeling in the cold cemetery.

The sound of wind, rain, thunder, rustling leaves, frogs croaking, and various unknown bird and insect calls all intertwined. In the eerie cemetery, it was terrifying.

Nadi used to be afraid of the dark and lightning. She could never have imagined in her dreams... That one day, on a stormy night with thunder and rain, she would kneel in a cemetery filled with tombstones!

And now she realized, what was there to be afraid of? What was truly scary were people.

"Hahaha." Nadi threw her head back and laughed loudly, letting the rain wash over her face.

Hearing Nadi's laughter, Adi's footsteps instinctively paused.

Why did Nadi's laughter give him such a strong sense of familiarity?

Where had he heard this laughter before?
