Reincarnation In Smallville

Chapter 77: Confrontations and Consequences [77]

Kent Farm

Clark drove along the dark road, the headlights illuminating the quiet path back home. He was lost in thought, pondering the consequences of his conversation with Chloe.

BZZZZ!

His phone vibrated on the console beside him. Clark quickly grabbed it, his eyes locking onto Tina's message.

"Clark, we need you at the Talon. Now! Diana got into a fight, and things are out of control."

"You've got to be kidding me," Clark muttered, tossing the phone back onto the passenger seat. He pressed down on the accelerator, the truck's engine roaring as he sped toward the center of town. Diana, what have you done now?

Talon

The flashing lights of a police car illuminated the café's exterior, adding to the already tense atmosphere. Diana stood motionless, watching the officers enter to assess the situation. Lana, still crouched next to Desirée, tried to comfort her as the woman slowly regained consciousness.

"Diana, the police are here," Tina whispered, grabbing the Amazon's arm. "We need to think fast. I don't know how you're going to explain this."

Diana crossed her arms, calmly eyeing the officers. "I did nothing wrong. I simply stopped a manipulative woman from harming an innocent man."

"Diana, this is Smallville," Tina said, alarmed. "Things don't work here like they do in Themyscira. You can't just punch people and think it'll all be fine."

Before Diana could respond, one of the officers approached. "Ma'am, we need to speak with you about what happened here. Someone reported physical assault."

"I am Diana," she replied, her tone firm but polite. "And I acted because this woman was endangering someone. It was necessary."

The officer gave her a skeptical look. "Necessary or not, violence isn't how we handle things here. We'll need you to come down to the station to give a statement."

"Diana, don't make this worse," Tina whispered, worried. "Clark's on his way. He can help."

Diana sighed deeply, but before she could say anything, the Talon's door opened with a muffled creak. Clark entered, his eyes immediately scanning the scene. He saw Diana surrounded by officers and Lana still near Desirée.

"Officers," Clark said, stepping forward with a calm but authoritative air. "What's going on here?"

"Do you know this woman?" one of the officers asked, gesturing toward Diana.

"Yes, she's my girlfriend," Clark responded quickly. "I'm sure there's been a misunderstanding. Can we talk outside?"

"Diana is your girlfriend?" Lana asked, her voice filled with surprise as she slowly stood beside Desirée.

Clark turned to Lana, maintaining his calm demeanor. "Yes, Lana. We can talk about this later. Right now, I need to handle this."

"Girlfriend..." Lana muttered, crossing her arms as she watched Clark escort Diana and Tina outside. "And I thought I understood something about you."

Outside the Talon

The officers stopped near their patrol car, adjusting their notepads. Clark positioned himself between Diana and the police, exuding calm authority.

One officer eyed Clark, adjusting the brim of his hat. "Sir, I understand you want to protect your girlfriend, but assault is a serious matter. We need to bring her in for questioning."

Clark stepped forward, maintaining his calm but firm stance. "I understand, officers. But I'm certain that won't be necessary."

He locked eyes with the officers, discreetly activating his mind-control ability. His voice became soothing, almost hypnotic. "In fact, you've already investigated enough. There's nothing here that requires an official report. Return to the station and continue your patrols. You won't remember us."

The two officers hesitated, their expressions briefly confused before relaxing entirely. One nodded slowly, tucking his notebook back into his pocket.

"Yes, sir. It seems everything's under control here," the officer said, turning to his partner. "Let's head back. Nothing more to do here."

Without further questions, the officers got into their patrol car and drove off, the red and blue lights fading into the distance. Clark exhaled deeply, running a hand through his hair as he turned to Diana and Tina.

"Diana, Tina, get in the cars. We need to leave before anyone asks more questions."

"Diana, you were incredibly bold in there," Tina commented, still nervous. "But Clark just saved the situation. Let's go before it escalates further."

Clark opened the truck door, motioning for Diana to get inside. "Diana, get in. I'm taking you home."

In the Truck

Clark kept his eyes on the road, but his mind raced. The tension in the vehicle was palpable as Diana sat silently in the passenger seat.

"Diana, what were you thinking?" Clark finally asked, his voice controlled but clearly frustrated. "You can't just punch someone in public and expect everything to be fine."

"She was manipulating that man," Diana replied, crossing her arms. "I did what was necessary. In Themyscira, protecting the innocent is always the priority."

"Diana, this isn't Themyscira," Clark said, glancing at her briefly before returning his focus to the road. "Things work differently here. You need to understand that."

"So you're saying I should have stood by while she poisoned that man?" Diana countered, her tone growing more defiant.

"No, of course not," Clark replied quickly. "But there are better ways to handle it. We could've called the police or confronted her differently. Now you've drawn attention to us, and that's dangerous."

Diana took a deep breath, her expression softening slightly. "I understand your concern, Clark. But it's hard for me to stand by when I see something so wrong happening. It's part of who I am."

"And it's one of the things I admire about you," Clark said, his tone gentler. "But we need to find a balance. We're trying to build something here, and we can't risk everything on impulse."

Diana nodded slowly, looking out at the road ahead. "You're right. I promise to be more careful in the future. But you also need to understand that I can't ignore injustice when I see it."

Clark gave a small smile, easing the tension slightly. "I understand, Diana. And I know your intentions were good. But... you'll have to make up for it tonight."

Diana raised an eyebrow, surprised by the playful tone that replaced his earlier seriousness. "Make up for it? And how exactly do you suggest I do that?"

Clark glanced at her sideways, a mischievous smile playing on his lips. "I have a few ideas. Let's discuss them when we get home."

Diana let out a soft laugh, finally relaxing after the intense incident. "Very well, Clark. Let's see what you have in mind."

The truck continued down the dark road, the tension between them finally dissipating as the stars above illuminated the path home.

Talon

Desirée groaned softly as she regained consciousness.

"Desirée? Are you okay?" Lana asked, kneeling beside her.

"What... happened?" Desirée murmured, lightly touching the side of her head.

"You were punched," Lana replied, trying to stay calm. "Diana hit you. But honestly, it looked like you were up to something."

Desirée struggled to her feet, her expression shifting between pain and anger. "She'll pay for this," she said, her eyes flashing with fury. "No one treats me like that and gets away with it."

"Desirée, maybe it's best if you just leave before this gets worse," Lana said, crossing her arms. "I won't stop you, but know that I'm watching you."

Desirée shot Lana a venomous glare before turning and staggering out of the Talon. The patrons, who had returned to their seats, watched in silence as she disappeared into the night.

Lana sighed, returning to the counter to tidy up, but her mind raced. Clark has a girlfriend. Diana... who is she, really? Does Chloe know about this?

The night at the Talon carried on, but Lana knew there were still many questions left unanswered.
