Reincarnated With the World Domination System

Chapter 6: The Traitor's Identity

Rael chased after the kid with the beam ability.

He believed this was the best choice because other kids might have agility based abilities.

Depending on the kid's aptitude, a single beam could drain a lot of his stamina, so Rael saw him as the ideal target.

With his improved attributes from The Machima God's bloodline, Rael quickly closed in on the normie, who noticed him getting nearer.

The brat turned around and fired another beam, but Rael swatted it away like a fly and picked up speed, finally catching him.

They both stumbled and rolled on the ground, but Rael reacted faster and ended up on top.

It was clear that his bloodline made him a natural born fighter, and he instinctively made use of it.

Pinning the brat down with his weight, Rael grabbed his wrists and stared into his eyes like a beast, which scared the boy.

"Who is her?! Who told you to mention orphans' abilities?!" Rael shouted.

"T-that nun!" the brat screamed.

"Which nun?!" Rael asked in a louder voice, his heart pounding.

[Lord Rael, please keep your composure and stay calm. Your heartbeat has risen dangerously, and your breathing is growing unsteady. This child might have been told to lie, so the sisters from your orphanage are not necessarily at fault.]

Dominica understood how vulnerable Rael's feelings were.

He was adapting to a new body and a life free of social anxiety, but the thought that a nun might be betraying the orphanage children could devastate him.

"S-Sister Sophia!" the brat cried, his words draining Rael's strength.

Sister Sophia found him when he was a toddler and raised him with great care.

She loved everyone equally and wanted only the best for children who had lost their families.

She had played a huge role in teaching Rael compassion and helping him become more open with others.

He saw firsthand how much it hurt her when kids left for the military.

"How does she look?" Rael asked, his voice growing weaker.

"Old!" the brat replied.

"Come on now!" Rael shouted.

The nuns wore long tunics and veils that covered their hair, so they all looked similar to outsiders who paid them little attention.

Rael felt angry and let down.

He needed clear answers, but the brat could not describe Sophia, which pushed Rael to ask another question.

"What do you get for telling her about people's abilities?" Rael narrowed his eyes.

"Candies and sweets that our parents hide from us," the brat said with a smirk, as if proud of having parents who took away his treats while Rael had none.

Curses threatened to roll off Rael's tongue, but he stood and let the kid go.

He said the brat could tell that nun about his ability, since others would do it anyway.

"But if you mention our talk," Rael said while stretching his hand toward a piece of scrap metal, pulling it to him and crushing it effortlessly, "you'll regret it."

The boy's face went pale.

He nodded several times, then ran off to join the other normies.

Once he was gone, Rael sank to the ground and closed his eyes.

Dominica's voice echoed in his head.

[You did well, Lord Rael. Even though you were upset, you kept enough control so the child would not tell Sister Sophia about you learning of her plans. We do not know if she is truly guilty, but your discovery completes the quest: The Traitor of The Nine Cross Orphanage. You may awaken your second innate ability at any time.]

[You have also received a new quest.]

[Confirm the identity of the traitor.]

[Reward: Third Innate Ability Awakening.]

[When you finish this quest, you will awaken all your dormant abilities and receive your first main quest.]

Thanks.

Rael only answered Dominica's comforting words about staying calm.

He could not focus on anything else at the moment because he could not wrap his head around Sister Sophia's possible betrayal.

It felt like suddenly becoming an adult and having to survive without any education or money.

He realized again how naive he was.

He wished Dominica had warned him, but maybe he needed to face this harsh lesson on his own.

People wore many faces, and in his past life, Rael had shown only one, avoiding all social contact.

In this life, he had to deal with social hierarchies and learn to show the right face while staying true to his morals and character.

[You have made a big step forward on your journey.]

[You have earned a bonus of twenty thousand EXP.]

As those rewards echoed in Rael's mind, he sensed someone behind him.

Turning around, he saw Anne staring at him with big worried eyes.

She held her teddy bear tightly and walked toward him.

Without speaking, she offered him her precious toy and gave him a bright smile.

"You safe now," Anne said.

She had given him her guardian angel.

Rael knew how important that teddy bear was to Anne, who relied on it for comfort.

He did not feel like scolding her for following him instead of joining the others.

She must have heard him shouting and seen his despair, which made her come closer.

"Thanks," Rael said, holding the teddy bear gently.

Anne sat beside him, leaving her beloved toy in his arms, and without it, she now treated him as her protector.

[She is precious.]

Yeah, just like everyone else in the orphanage, my home. I won't let anyone hurt them.

After a while, Rael stood and handed Anne her plushie.

He told her to head back for dinner and rest.

While everyone went about their usual routines, Rael planned to awaken his second innate ability and open the virtual reality training room to prepare for what lay ahead.

With all this information, a lot of trouble was coming for the orphanage.
