Chapter 1448: Time For Furoh's Evolution
-----
With the deal about Red and his new System Status dealt with, the only thing left was to evolve my four familiars. I had a couple of other items I could use right now, but I'll save that for later, I've spent enough time meddling with Skills and their Effects.
I need a little break, honestly, it's quite tiring to read big texts and try out new powers over and over again. I spent a tad too much with the Evil God Skill and then with the Demonic Skill and then with Red, a byproduct of it and then with the System.
So now, let's just evolve my Familiars.
"Alright, let's quickly start evolutions. I'll do them right here because I just don't have the energy to go inside my Dungeon anyways. Glutton! Open up, bring all the materials we talked about!"
"Waarrff!"
Glutton opened his mouth and vomited a huge amount of items, he made sure not to leave them covered on drool this time, so they were all fine and dry, as they should be.
"Let's scrive a magic circle here and there… And then, let's start!"
Furoh, Glutton, Beelzebub, and Brownie were evolving today.
The pile of materials had all their necessary materials for evolution after a long time of gathering them and many failed attempts too. I needed very specific materials that only grow in the Demon Continent for Glutton, Furoh, and Beelzebub to completely evolve. Your next read awaits at empire
Brownie was good, his materials were simply enough, but a lot of them, so it was still relatively hard to find a lot of a certain, already rare item!
But anyways, it seemed like the invasion to my Dungeon was a blessing in disguise, after all, those Demonic Beasts, the Miasmic Monsters, and True Demons summoned, even that weird living dome made of crystalized miasma, were all good materials for their evolutions.
Yeah, I was gathering for all of them when it happened, and it helped me get all the materials I needed but…
But a lot of bad things happened too, Bark, and Curse are dead now.
"…"
And I even had Curse's Evolution Materials almost ready too, all of them, the Darkness Spirit Stones, the Cursed Monster Materials even Cursed Holy Water that took me so long to get, and even Undead Ashes, only left when an Undead dies from Holy Light.
"Curse…"
I sighed for a moment as I continued making the magic circle, engraving it on the wooden floor using the mixed blood of monsters and demonic beasts.
Once the ritual is over the engravements disappear on their own, so it's of no problem that it is left painted red for now.
"Alright… Um, let's begin then!"
I had been full of energy, but when I saw those materials and realized Curse wasn't with us anymore, it made me feel all bad again.
"Sylphy…"
Yggdra quickly noticed what happened, flying to my side.
"Were those the materials for Curse's evolution?"
"Y-Yeah…"
"I see… In a way, I believe he still is alive though, don't you think?"
"How so?"
"Within you, he was an embodiment of the Curse passed by the Ancient Demon King. An embodiment, a will leave behind given the form of a Spirit."
"Is that so…"
"Yes, or that's what… I learned from him."
"But even if the Curse remains, my Curse… the one-eyed douchebag that was actually a really good guy… He's gone."
"Perhaps the part of him that could speak to you, that had a mind but… The rest of him lives within you, his sacrifice was something all of us would have done for you. He gave up his own self, so you could survive."
I touched my chest, feeling the abyssal darkness within my Spiritual Heart.
He did say he would only give up his "familiar form" and continue living within my Heart.
But to me, it still felt like a death.
Why? Because when your mind disappears and so your memories, isn't that the same as dying?
He didn't leave a physical body so he could recover them, so he…
He completely disappeared.
"I wish I could have gotten to know him better, that's one of my greatest regrets," I said. "I wish I could have known more about who he truly was… He told me, before everything happened, that he was "Merely a Reflection of his Creator", so did that mean he was a copy of his creator's personality? I can't… I couldn't understand back then."
"Most likely," said Alice. "Or perhaps… his creator gave up his soul as well to create him, to make him. Maybe it was the same thing he did with you, he gave up everything within himself to become the Curse. It was something that had been strengthened and created for many years, being carried by many Demons, it was a parasite in a way, and Furoh suffered from it… But it developed a stronger will with each new host, and perhaps, these mixed memories of its creator became their personality."
"I see…" I nodded. "I guess… that's a nice way to put it. It's, at the end of the day, a Curse. It passed from vessel to vessel, cursing their lives and worsening them, all for a cause that might never come to fruition. It was as gamble from that Demon King… One I plan to take. Once I took him in into my body, I used the System to modify his powers and convert him into something positive for me. And when I feed him a System Seed, he gained a body and perhaps, was finally able to explore the outside world as himself."
"Yeah, he liked flying around and getting lost sometimes," said Beelzebub. "But he never really told ya that… At the beginning of our visit to Evercraft, the two of us flew away around the city just to see it before returning to you. He said something like "I like the combination of the fresh, cold air, and the warmth made by the machinery, it creates… a contrast that can only be achieved by the beauty of mortals" or something like that… He was a deep guy; he sometimes would say stuff like that out of nowhere."
"Hahah… Yeah, he was like that," I giggled, feeling a bit better. "Okay Furoh, sorry for taking so long. Let's begin."
"It's fine, master," he nodded. "I'm ready…"
He quickly took his original form, resembling a huge mass of flesh, tentacles, eyes, and jaws. Despite his terrifying appearance, Furoh was very shy, covering his body with his tentacles. He seemed to dislike how he looked like.
"Hahh… I-I don't really like showing myself like this anymore, after I learned to full shapeshift," he sighed. "C-Can't we hurry?"
"Okay…" I nodded. "I know you're shy about your appearance, and that you have a big stigma about that, but you're beautiful as you are, Furoh. This is the body your mom gave you! Every living being is beautiful, I think. We are all made to do something, hands that can grab, eyes that can see, tentacles like yours look very useful, and so many eyes and jaws too! I wish I had those; life would be easier…"
"Sylphy…" Furoh felt slightly moved. "Um… Thanks. But… still! Just hurry…"
"Okay, okay!" I nodded. "Let's begin for realsies now!"
All materials quickly were absorbed by the ritual circle, as Furoh, sitting in the middle of it all, absorbed the materials essences into his body, rapidly evolving.
FLAAASH!
