Volume 3 Chapter 18
I chose the direction with the least obstacles for a breakout.
Avoiding the gathered knights and adventurers, the problem was that the encirclement was much deeper than I had imagined.
Thinking about it, we were already at the edge of the 【Barrier】 by then, which was almost equivalent to breaking out from the core area.
As the number of adventurers on both sides decreased, I timely dispelled the time magic that accelerated my movement and looked for the next breakthrough.
“Huh…?”
Where is this?
After resuming a uniform speed, the scenery in front of me was very bizarre. If I had to describe it, it was like a texture error in a game, visible everywhere. Each time I blinked, the texture error would correct itself a little.
A game bug? No, the timing is too coincidental. I prefer to believe that my vision was being interfered with.
“Could it be…”
I hurriedly used a dispel magic on myself, and my vision instantly became clear.
The previously erroneous textures in the scenery completely disappeared. In fact, the scene before my eyes had completely changed.
—Illusion magic.
A magician, or more appropriately, an illusionist, had set up illusion magic nearby, causing visual interference. Since there was a magician using 【Chaotic Space】 to disrupt spatial transfers and the use of scrolls, the only way to break out was to rely on my legs. Therefore, setting up an illusion trap in advance would be highly effective.
The reason I realized I was hallucinating so quickly was purely because I was moving too fast. The illusion trying to deceive my vision couldn’t accurately cover the scenery in my field of view, resulting in several texture error loopholes. Once I realized I was in an illusion, using dispel magic on myself greatly increased the chances of escaping the illusion.
But, the illusion did indeed cause interference.
I failed to shake off the adventurers.
“What are you doing?”
Nora yelled from behind, frustrated. From her perspective, I must have looked like a fool, running at high speed and then going around in circles on the spot.
Such a watertight defense… This definitely wasn’t the work of the Black Hawk Mercenary Group, it must have been done by Duke Borgias’ subordinates.
“Don’t run!”
The nearby adventurers were initially stunned, then each drew their weapons and attacked.
Compared to the well-equipped and well-trained knights, the adventurers now seemed as naive as babies to me.
Such endearing light armor.
With a swish, the chains passed through.
Hitting the vital spots — the adventurers were completely unprepared for the chains’ powerful penetrating force, they didn’t even have time to use any skills.
The chains radiated outwards from me, instantly clearing the nearest circle of adventurers.
However, the advantage of the adventurers lay in their sheer numbers, and the small penalty of waiting for resurrection upon death. As long as they hadn’t committed too grave sins, there were no consequences for dying in a safe area.
Even though I successfully eliminated the nearest adventurers, it did not deter the rest; they continued to press on relentlessly.
Huge ice walls rose in front of me. My burst of speed earlier had alerted them, and they began to prevent me from using speed to escape with Lily.
Despite the adventurers’ lack of coordination, they managed to slow me down inadvertently.
“Ugh…?!”
While resisting the adventurers, I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my calf.
A magically enhanced arrow struck my right leg. Protecting Lily while fighting the adventurers, I had no room to guard against a sneak attack.
I quickly purified the negative effects on the arrow, gritted my teeth, and forcefully pulled it out.
【Leg Injury: Your right leg is injured, reducing movement speed】
So they don’t intend to let me use that kind of speed again… I once again extended the chains, forming a defensive wall.
Several members of Anna’s support team tried to come to my aid, but were blocked by other adventurers.
“Block them! The rest, follow me!”
Gruman of the Black Hawk Mercenary Group… this is bad. He’s dealt with Anna’s support team and can accurately distinguish friend from foe.
Gruman roared, and the morale of the adventurers around him soared.
War Cry… Originally a skill commonly used by the orc race, but non-orcs could also learn it through special means, though the effect was not as intense as that of the beastly orcs.
The adventurers, inspired by the War Cry, each channeled different buffs.
Guidable buffs are a game mechanic, usually granted through team support. However, guidable buffs depend on the individual and require learning to have a chance of being activated.
Originally, Caro Cat had asked me to cheer on the adventurers, leading to many buffs being activated. They all belonged to this category.
The main effect of War Cry was to significantly increase the chance of triggering guidable buffs. Normally, such buffs depended on one’s own emotions and state, the more excited one was, the easier it was to trigger them.
“Capture Amaris!”
Gruman, wielding a long sword, led the charge himself, and the adventurers of the Black Hawk Mercenary Group followed suit.
I targeted Gruman, not allowing him to use War Cry anymore. Seeing several adventurers who had been instantly killed by me before, Gruman did not dare to be careless. He applied multiple defensive buffs to himself, turning into a humanoid armored tank.
The chain struck Gruman’s breastplate, indenting the armor over his heart but failing to penetrate.
The moment I retracted the chain, a spear shot through the air, accurately hitting Gruman’s indented breastplate.
