Volume 2 Chapter 61
—On the continent of Limoria, what is the longest-living race?
The answer isn’t absolute.
Among the player-playable races, it’s the elves, but no player can enjoy the longevity characteristic of elves. Undead, by their racial trait, can also be considered long-lived, but no one wishes to become undead.
Other than these are smaller groups, not as large as the main races, with dragons being the most representative. It’s said that ancient dragon kings who witnessed the [Demon King] are still alive today.
Phoenixes are also a long-lived race, but strictly speaking, their life involves a [Phoenix Rebirth] process, and whether this counts as true immortality is debatable.
Then, there’s a special group on the continent, difficult to categorize by race, but they possess eternal youth, surviving through the changes on Limoria since the [Demon King]’s sealing.
These are known as witches, feared for their immortal appearance.
Outwardly indistinguishable from human women of prime age, the only difference lies in special patterns on their bodies. Preferring solitude, they dislike bustling cities and interactions with other races.
The Church initially suspected witches were hybrids created by the [Demon King]’s blood and humans. However, the particularly peaceful witches gradually were deemed not worth targeting by the Church, otherwise Anastasia’s identity as a witch’s daughter wouldn’t have been safe. In summary, information on witches is extremely scarce, with almost no missions involving them.
In Enrique’s memory, when Anastasia’s character was publicly revealed with the background of “a witch’s daughter,” it was the most widespread appearance of witches in the players’ view. Back then, players even asked what witches were, indicating their rarity.
Enrique wasn’t particularly interested in the game’s lore, but for some reasons, he wanted to find a witch.
Regrettably, when Anastasia’s character was released, some players thought the official would start filling in the lore about witches, but no further information came.
What were the reasons other players pursued Anastasia? Probably her beauty. However, Enrique’s core reason was that she was the most likely medium to contact a witch.
Legend says witches live in the unreachable [Hidden Realm], a mysterious place without precise coordinates, impossible to find no matter the manpower used.
Anastasia might be able to find the entrance to the [Hidden Realm].
In the reception hall of the End Baron’s castle, Enrique sipped the tea served by a maid.
Although the temporary lord of the End Baron’s domain, Christiana, usually met adventurers in the afternoon, his status as a senior councilor of the Water City Commerce Guild was sufficient to knock on the door.
Even Christiana’s father, Earl Montefeltro, would personally appear knowing that the second-in-command of the kingdom’s largest adventurers’ guild was visiting.
Sure enough, after less than five minutes of waiting, a beautiful young girl with chestnut hair entered the reception hall.
“Nice to meet you, Lady Christiana Montefeltro.”
Enrique set down his tea cup, smiling.
“I am Enrique, a senior councilor of the Water City Commerce Guild.”
“Nice to meet you. Quite a rare visitor.”
Christiana nodded in greeting. Enrique’s charm was not low, with his decent attire and extraordinary demeanor adding points. If it weren’t for Anastasia’s warning in the morning, Christiana wouldn’t have shown such a cold face to a man like him.
Despite this, Enrique still gracefully complimented Christiana’s beauty, forcing her to remind herself internally to be more vigilant.
“It seems Mr. Enrique knows how to please ladies, but let’s stop the pleasantries here. I assume Mr. Enrique’s visit to End is not for trivial tasks like bandit hunting, not worth your personal effort, right?”
“Since Lady Christiana is so straightforward, I’ll be frank too. I hope you would allow me to meet… Anastasia.”
Christiana’s expression remained unchanged.
“Mr. Enrique, what do you mean?”
“As I understand, the recent fugitive sought by Duke Borgia, Amalirilis, is being sheltered by Anastasia, who is currently residing within Lady Christiana’s domain.”
“Oh… quite a rumor. Are you sure it’s wise for the Water City Commerce Guild to be involved in such baseless gossip?”
“This is not mere gossip. An adventurer, skilled in divination, determined Anastasia’s location through the arrangement of the stars.”
Enrique monopolized the source of this information with his wealth. Now, no one knows his real intention for visiting End. With Duke Obi’s domain focused on searching for Amalirilis, no one cares about Enrique’s movements.
Christiana didn’t back down.
“[Astrology]? If just any charlatan’s words are enough to question and even search a noble’s domain, the nobles might as well lose face.”
Unless it’s a max-level astrology, even the astrologer themselves can’t be sure
of the accuracy of their predictions, only able to estimate based on the skill’s probability description.
However, Enrique had done his research. Anastasia opened her favorability system a few days before Christiana had several interactions with her, leading Enrique to believe that the probability of Anastasia hiding in the End Baron’s domain was high.
“You misunderstand, Lady Christiana, I actually… came to help Anastasia get out of her predicament.”
