Reincarnated Maid is About To Be Captured by All Players

Volume 2 Chapter 14

After Baron Trafalgar rented the dragon turtle, he sent the rendezvous coordinates to Calo Cat via private message.

Despite my reluctance, I tearfully discarded the chimera meat from my storage space; I had gone hunting to treat everyone to something special, and they were all so dismissive.

Away from the banks of the Biliran barony, we met Trafalgar as planned.

We were all seeing a dragon turtle for the first time, and Calo Cat was so excited that she hopped around it, inspecting it from every angle, even running in front of it and foolishly asking.

“Hello dragon turtle, may I pet your head, meow?”

“Lady Calo Cat, I believe the Cat People’s animal communication skill does not work with dragon turtles. Also, your intention to touch the head of the dragon turtle is somewhat inappropriate, please reconsider.”

“Is it, meow?”

Calo Cat seemed oblivious to any impropriety.

Trafalgar urged, “Now’s not the time for this, come on, we’re about to leave.”

“Meow… what a letdown…”

The dragon turtle had several secure seats on its back for passengers. Dragon turtles that had been tamed would not submerge the seats on their backs, so we could sit with peace of mind.

“I’ll take care of driving, you guys do whatever. Just don’t go into the water; my [Swimming] level isn’t high.”

“The dragon turtle needs to be driven, meow?”

“Nonsense… Even though the dragon turtle knows the way, and a novice level [Riding] skill could manage it, it’s still dangerous without a driver.”

Trafalgar, sitting in the driver’s seat, spoke irritably.

“Baron Trafalgar, let’s switch after lunch. I can take over driving.”

“Oh? You have experience?”

“I am proficient in any riding skill.”

Whether it’s riding horses, dragon turtles, or people, I can handle it with ease.

Trafalgar nodded. From a player’s perspective, driving a slow-moving vehicle was undeniably a tedious task; everyone preferred the excitement of combat and adventure. Although special events could occur during travel, overall, there are fewer such events on waterways than on roads.

Like a long bus ride, traveling on a dragon turtle was fundamentally boring. My only concern was to hide Lily well when we passed towns.

Calo Cat and Hildegarde were getting to know each other for the first time, as previous emergencies hadn’t left much time for introductions. Fortunately, after some conversation, they got along well and started chatting before long.

“It’s interesting to see such good relations between the Elf and Beastman races.”

Trafalgar did not turn around, but he couldn’t help interjecting upon hearing the laughter and conversation between Hildegarde and Calo Cat.

“What do you mean, meow… Ah, you’re talking about the war to reclaim lost lands started by the Elf King…?”

Calo Cat said this while paying attention to Hildegarde’s expression, but Hildegarde indicated it was alright.

“It’s okay. I left Midgard because I couldn’t adapt to the style of the Elf King.”

“Lifa sister, what is the war to reclaim lost lands?”

Seemingly bored of playing with the fish, Lily seized the topic and wouldn’t let go.

“The war launched by Elf King Oberon VII. A hundred years ago, part of Midgard’s border territory was occupied by the Beastmen.”

Trafalgar, who was driving the dragon turtle, also seemed to open up, as it was indeed quite dull to sail without conversation.

“Afterward, the Beastmen built villages and fortresses on the occupied territory and lived there for nearly two hundred years. About three years ago, one night, a village on the border between Midgard and Arcadia suddenly caught fire. The next morning, Oberon VII declared that the Beastmen were the arsonists, framing the act as an enemy attack by Arcadia, and stated that the Elves of Midgard had the duty to retaliate… That day, the Elf King led his troops to launch a surprise attack on Arcadia and, surprisingly, won…”

“Actually… we don’t really know who started the fire…”

Hildegarde murmured softly, after all, the Beastmen of Arcadia denied Oberon VII’s claim, but Oberon insisted.

“Oberon VII’s peace terms were for Arcadia to return the lost territories to Midgard. The war overall had nothing to do with our human race, so we remain neutral and refer to it as the war to reclaim lost lands.”

“But isn’t that returning property to its rightful owner?”

“It’s not that simple. The lifespan of the Beastmen isn’t as long as that of humans. In almost two hundred years, that land had seen generations of Beastmen, and it was considered a part of Arcadia. For those Beastmen born on that land, it was the Elf King who took their homeland…”

“Lily, you’re still young, war is complicated.”

I whispered to Lily, full of questions, and Baron Trafalgar really should be more mindful of whether Lily could understand.

“I didn’t participate in that war, meow.”

Calo Cat spread her arms to show her innocence; she played the game rather zen-like.

“…After the war, Oberon VII built strong fortifications on the land bordering Arcadia, which I think could compare to the Maginot Line.”

“Baron Trafalgar, your analogy is terrible.”

“Do you even understand what the Maginot Line is… But I won’t change my opinion. Sooner or later, trouble will arise, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Oberon VII became a world boss after an update. Look, Oberon VII is at war with Garuda Kingdom again, who knows how long it will last…”

Trafalgar stopped mid-sentence and then turned around sharply, staring straight at Lily.

“What’s the matter, meow? Are you a lolicon?”

“…The third princess of our kingdom is to marry into the Garuda Kingdom.”

Trafalgar ignored Calo Cat.

“Nobles of Count rank and above have an obligation to present gifts as dowry for the third princess.”

That’s right, I heard about it when I was in the Hurst barony, from the old tailor at the dress shop.

“Ah…”

I suddenly understood what Trafalgar was thinking.

The dowries provided by the Counts.

Would have to be moved out of the [Barrier].
