Chapter 99: Blood Manipulation?
"I'll take this, and that, and this."
[Take this too. I can memorize them all if you give me enough time.]
With a wide grin, I took another spell book.
[I think that's enough.]
'Yeah, you are right.'
With a small mountain of books, I sat beside Selene who looked at me with wide eyes.
"Why… so many!"
I raised an eyebrow. "Why not? I have spent all my EC for this one hour. I'm basically homeless now, so I'll read as much as possible!"
Selene frowned. "I can give you some EC if you want. My father won't mind."
I shook my head. "Thank you for your kindness, but I'll earn my own money."
Selene let out a sigh before continuing to read the book in her hand. It was a book about gravity.
[Where will you sleep now?]
'Obviously, on the street.'
It was true that I had no money now.
Yesterday, after the artificery test, when I returned to the inn, I found it surrounded by people in black suits and armor.
It was about Lynn's disappearance.
They took me to a room and scanned everything I had, then asked me many questions about her.
They probably had a lie detector, so I answered them honestly.
And by honestly I meant believing my own lies.
It was almost impossible, but not entirely impossible.
I had trained with Celestia to learn how to convince myself to believe my lies temporarily. It was just a theory in my head, but it worked with Celestia and therefore with the people in black.
After that, they returned my 95 EC with an additional 100 EC as an apology. With that money, I rented a room for only one day and 1 hour in the academy's library.
The library contained all the knowledge that I couldn't find on the internet. Let it be advanced spells and techniques, monsters knowledge, theories, world maps, artificery, alchemy and so on.
Today, I was supposed to explore the academy with Selene, but thankfully, she accepted to stay with me in the library at first.
Now, I had a mountain of books ready to read.
Immediately, I summoned BlackHail and enhanced my brain and eyes as I began to read.
Glutton was reading a book about swordsmanship while I was reading a very small one about vampires.
Yeah, vampires!
I wanted to read about them since I found out that my father was a vampire. Aria refused to tell me about them saying our situation was too complicated.
'But she can't stop me now!'
Reading the book, I began to absorb all the information.
The more I read, the more my eyes widened.
[The fuck? Can you really do that?]
'Stop using my senses!' I yelled at Glutton inwardly as I closed the book and rubbed my head.
The vampires had their own kingdom in the human domain. The reason why they weren't a 'Main Race' was their population. They were barely in thousands.
Yet, the vampires couldn't be underestimated, because they had something that made them a terrifying force.
It was blood manipulation.
They had a high chance to be born with blood affinity, and even if they didn't, they would still have innate ability to manipulate blood.
Thus, as a half-vampire… maybe — just maybe I had that ability since the start…
I shook my head and opened another book about lightning. All the other information in the book was about the vampires' cultures and habits. I didn't need to focus on that.
As the time passed, my time in the library was finally over.
I blinked, and the next moment, I was standing in front of the main building with Selene and Glutton.
I covered my face with both hands as I cursed: "Fuck! I didn't complete the runes book!"
"I can give you some coins…" Selene murmured silently, but I shook my head again in response.
"Let's just explore the academy for now. I'm definitely becoming rich after they announce the rankings."
"Okay. Can I carry Glutton?"
[Please I'll do anything! Just this time!]
I dismissed Glutton instantly. "Sorry, maybe another time."
Selene nodded as we began moving together.
'Keep an eye for anything suspicious for now.'
[Haa… yes, keep treating your son like a slave.]
I chuckled inwardly as I continued walking.
I had to make a mental map for the entire academy and all the students on it. Thankfully, Glutton had a perfect memory!
I needed to find anything that could help me to cause a big change in the novel.
•••
In a large luxurious office, there were 4 figures sitting around one table.
On the main chair, there was a beautiful woman, with a wide smile plastered over her face, wearing a simple black shirt and black shorts. Her silky pitch black hair seemed to have small stars inside of it and her pitch black eyes seemed to reflect the dark space itself.
There was a small pitch black snake with blackish-blue irises wrapped around her thin neck lazily.
In front of them, there was a girl sitting beside a young-looking woman.
The girl had long black hair with purple highlights running through it and a pair of bright purple eyes. She was looking at the ground with a red face as if embarrassed.
The young woman had pale white skin, long grey hair and a pair of bloody-red eyes.
Her face was twitching in anger as she glared dangerously at the woman in front of her.
Suddenly, she slammed the table. "I have been waiting for many years, Lunara! My grandchildren are both above 18 now!"
"Ahem…" Lunara cleared her throat. "I can't let you take them now, Seraphina. This is Aria's last year. I can't let you take her or all what she endured would be for nothing."
"As for Raylin, I plan to take him as my personal student. Are you ready to make him lose his only chance to master space affinity?"
Seraphina looked hesitant as she bit her lips and hissed: "Then we will stay here, and I'm not asking!" She then rubbed Aria's head softly. "They haven't even awakened their innate abilities yet."
Lunara's smile vanished as she thought for a moment, then she opened her mouth: "I can allow you to visit them only once every Saturday, starting from the ranking banquet after a few days."
Seraphina narrowed her eyes dangerously before sighing in frustration. "I'll take Aria for a few hours."
Without waiting for Lunara to talk, Seraphina gripped Aria's hand and took her outside the office.
After a moment, Lunara's expression turned into irritation as she slammed her head into the table.
"Just why are they making me do all that for 1 kid! The vampires are definitely suspecting us now."
The snake leaped to the opposite chair as it turned into a human. He was Yami, the winner of the land of challenges.
Yami opened his mouth: "What's special about Raylin… anyway? Ỳ̡̛̀̕͢͢͡ờ̷͜͟u̸̷͟͜͝ are offending an entire R̸͠͝A̶̚͠C̵̕͝Ë̴́͠…. just to keep him as a student."
Lunara raised her head and sighed. "I don't know. That lunatic woman has been obsessed with him since his awakening. I know that he has 2 traits and 2 soul-bound artifacts… but isn't that too much?"
She let out another sigh. "She even forbids us from observing him or treating him as a special person. I'm really confused!"
"So… Lunara," Yami, with an indifferent face, asked: "Do you want to take him as a student for this reason?"
Lunara shrugged. "No, It's just rare to find a space user, and even more rare to see them this experienced in using it. He was teleporting easily as if it was no different from walking."
She suddenly chuckled. "Hehe, and didn't I tell you to call me mother? You are hurting me like this…"
Yami didn't answer. He turned into a parrot and sat lazily in front of the table.
"...."
Lunara took him into her embrace with some sadness. "I'll fix your emotions someday... I promise."
