Chapter 2: When Titans Clash
I feel quite embarrassed to say this, but when I first laid my eyes on the Shadow Queen, the first thing I thought was:
"What a beautiful woman."
In reality, she was.
Her hair was long, black, and wavy, and it flowed all the way down to her lower back. She shrouded herself in a flowing black tunic, which completely hid her legs, but did nothing to hide the two beautiful melons that bulged out of her chest.
Yes, she was beautiful. But when I stared into her cold, unfeeling eyes, my chest tightened with fear.
I had to remind myself of the countless lives she took, and that gave me the courage to face her properly.
"You must be Lady Daevalia," I said.
"And you must be my next victim," she quipped back.
I could sense the bitterness in her voice, subtly masked by a bloodlust aura.
"Didn't think there was a mage as powerful as me."
"Didn't think the Grand Mage would be so... old."
Old? I was barely forty-six.
Now I was pissed.
Closing my eyes, I mentally conjured a spell and summoned a heavenly sword born of pure light.
"Your atrocious deeds have gone unchecked for too long, Daevalia. It's time you pay the price."
The atmosphere grew even colder, and a faint smile appeared on the Shadow Queen's face.
"Are you threatening me, Grand Mage?"
"It's not a threat," I replied coldly. "It's a promise."
Dark as it was, I could sense the black, intimidating aura radiating from the Shadow Queen.
"I must warn you, Grand Mage. No one threatens me and lives another day."
Then I heard her lips utter the most dreaded spell in all Westumberland.
"Dark Release: Infernus in Terra"
*****
Turns out, the only perk of being the strongest mage in the world is being the last to die.
Around me, the world descended into chaos. A dozen earthquakes tremored, splitting the earth into a thousand plates while the clouds above roared with lightning.
I could hear the sounds of a thousand volcanoes erupting simultaneously, and large hurricanes ripping out giant trees.
A large, glowing HellGate emerged, and out of it came a hundred thousand demons flying in every possible direction, breathing fire upon every living organism.
Millions of innocent souls screamed in horror.
And I could hear every single one.
I had to put an end to this quickly.
So, I descended into Hell.
I narrowly defeated the seven powerful archdemons and the thirty-five generals of Hell's army, hoping that their demise would quell the demon uprising.
But I was wrong.
Many more kept ascending to Earth, causing havoc all over the planet.
I summoned heavenly beings to assist me in capturing the remaining demons, but they were all killed by the Shadow Queen. My mana was depleting fast, and I couldn't summon any more.
I could feel my broken legs groan in pain, and my torn veins bled with every little motion I made. My head ached tremendously, and my eyes grew sore and weak.
Even worse, the protection spells I cast on the entire planet were failing.
But this was no time to give up.
I had to fight.
The Shadow Queen hovered in the skies above, her voice booming like thunder as she chanted her spells.
She channeled the souls of the dead into her magic, making her more powerful than ever.
More powerful than me.
"Why do you keep fighting, Grand Mage?"
"I made a promise," I replied in between gasps. "And I intend to keep it."
She laughed. A very horrible laugh.
"You've already lost, Grand Mage. I can smell the blood pouring out from your wounds."
"Blood? All I smell is your defeat."
"Is that how you fight your enemies? With sassy remarks?"
"No. I usually just obliterate them."
Raising my arms to the sky, I yelled out a spell.
"Light Affinity: Solar Flare."
At my command, the sun returned from its slumber to the sky above, and a large beam of concentrated sunlight poured down to the earth, right upon the Shadow Queen.
With a high-pitched scream, she fell from the skies, slamming into the ground before me.
I cast another spell.
"Nature Release: Vine Snare."
Before my spell was complete, the Shadow Queen returned to the sky, narrowly avoiding the large vines that reached for her.
The solar flare had reduced her tunic to tatters, exposing parts of her pale, soft skin.
Then her voice boomed.
"Dark Affinity: Eclipsis Aeterna."
The moon suddenly reappeared in the sky, its trajectory locked onto the sun. Once again, day turned into night.
The Shadow Queen turned to me, her eyes filled with rage.
"Dark Affinity: Daemon Hold"
I felt large, clawed hands grasp at my feet, pinning me to the ground. Two large demons sprang up from the earth, forcing me to my knees.
The Shadow Queen hovered back to the ground, staring me in the eye.
"Why are you doing this?" I asked.
"I am merely fulfilling my destiny, Grand Mage. The House of Deavalia were meant to be the rulers of this world."
Her hips gently swayed as she walked barefoot through the broken ruins until she was right in front of me.
"Humans are stubborn creatures, willing to do anything for their false sense of freedom. Hence, I will end the human race, and create a new one. They will serve me, and I will protect and bless them."
The Shadow Queen reached for my face, caressing my left cheek with her cold right hand.
"I desire a strong partner to rule with me. And I deem you worthy of that role."
She bent her head low and planted a cold, wet kiss on my lips. Her tongue slipped into my mouth, eagerly sucking and searching for mine.
Afterward, she raised her head up and locked her eyes onto mine.
"Give up your futile resistance, and I will spare your life. What do you say, Grand Mage?"
"Weather Release: Lightning Fury"
Dark storm clouds gathered above, and large, powerful bolts of lightning descended from the skies, striking every demon within a mile radius, including the Shadow Queen.
As the demons behind me were vaporised to bits, I collapsed to the ground, right beside the Shadow Queen.
The fires around us raged furiously, and the earth beneath us fractured, collapsing into itself. Floating debris filled the air, accompanied by the screams of millions of people.
The people! I had to save them.
My mana was enough to destroy the hellgate and fix the Earth, but my body was reaching its limit.
I could fix it all. But I needed a little rest.
Just a little rest, and I'd put everything back in order.
But right when I thought the fight was over, I heard a faint cold whisper.
"Dark Affinity: Black Hole."
