Chapter 28: Elira’s Proposal
The moon sat high above Ravengarde.
The night air was still.Too still.
Kael had received a single note, sealed with gold wax.
Come to the Solar Tower.Alone.— E.
No threats. No deception.
Just the confidence of someone who never expected to be refused.
He went.
The Solar Tower
Once a watchtower, now converted into Elira's private quarters.Lavishly rebuilt — red velvet, gold embroidery, silver mirrors that didn't reflect the dust outside.
Kael stepped in, cloak still dusted from the road.
Elira stood by the hearth, pouring wine.
She didn't greet him like a soldier.
She greeted him like a partner.
"Do you know what this rebellion lacks?" she asked.
Kael said nothing.
"A future," she answered herself. "One that doesn't end in fire and ash."
She walked closer, offering the wine.
Kael refused.
"Speak plainly," he said.
She smiled.
"I want peace. You want power. We both want freedom from Zerath. But to win this war, you need more than swords and shadows. You need legacy."
She reached into her coat, withdrawing a scroll.
A marriage contract.
[Major Political Choice Triggered]Elira's Offer: Marriage Alliance
She becomes Queen of Ravengarde.
Kael becomes Warden-General — full military command.
Ravengarde is declared a sovereign kingdom.
Immediate influx of Mirandel gold, nobility, and 4,000 trained soldiers.
But...
Power must be shared.
Serana, Vaenira, and the old council are demoted to advisory roles.
Future heirs will bear Elira's royal name.
Kael studied her.
Eyes sharp.Smile soft.A dagger behind every word.
"You'd give me an army," he said.
"I'd give you a kingdom," she replied.
"And if I refuse?"
Elira tilted her head.
"Then I'll offer it to someone else. Someone the people might trust... more."
Kael's heart stung — not with fear, but with something worse:
Doubt.
Interrupted
Suddenly, the door slammed open.
Vaenira.
No apology. No hesitation.
Her eyes went from Kael… to the contract… to Elira.
"You're making deals in shadows now?" she asked, voice low.
Kael stepped between them.
"This isn't your war, Vaenira."
Her eyes flared.
"It became mine the day I bled for it."
Silence.
Then she left — not running.
Just... hurt.
The Decision
Elira stepped closer, whispering:
"You can lead them into legend… or die a nameless flame.Choose."
Kael said nothing.
But when he left the Solar Tower, he burned the scroll in his hand.
Whether it was acceptance or rejection…only he knew.
