Chapter 21: Banner of the Lost
Ravengarde was quiet.
Not from fear this time.
But from anticipation.
Kael stood in the old cathedral tower — now a watchpost — as blackbirds circled above. Below, the fortress buzzed with work: walls repaired, armory restocked, scouts sent to distant ruins. But something was still missing.
An identity.
A reason to fight — not just against Zerath, but for something of their own.
Serana entered, holding a roll of parchment.
"The tailors have begun the designs. They're waiting on your word."
Kael didn't turn.
"Not mine. Ours."
The Council Reconvenes
Later that day, the core members gathered in the heart of Ravengarde's great hall. Charred banners from past regimes had been burned. Now a single blank canvas hung behind the war table — pure white.
Waiting.
Kael placed a weathered dagger on the table. His first weapon. The one he carried as a boy in the temple, before any title.
"I don't want a symbol of nobility," he said. "I want a symbol of truth. Of what we've lost… and what we'll reclaim."
Serana stepped forward, holding an iron circle — salvaged from the armor of the fallen.
"Then we forge it not from power. But from ruin."
Nilo brought forward ash and ink — mixed with blood from the siege.
Vaenira dipped the brush.
She paused only once, then drew.
The Banner Is Born
A circle, broken at the top — like a halo cracked open.Inside it: a black flame, flickering upward, piercing through.
No gold. No glory.Only survival and defiance.
[Rebellion Banner Unlocked: Sigil of the Broken Flame]Circle: Unity of the forgotten.Flame: The will to burn through fate.Fracture: A world abandoned by gods — reclaimed by mortals.
Kael stood before the new sigil.
He raised it above the hall.
And spoke:
"We are not knights. Not chosen. Not saved. We are what the world left behind. And we will rise, not as kings…But as the fire they feared would return."
Message to the Nine Kingdoms
That night, Vaenira sent her agents — not assassins, but couriers.
To cities. To taverns. To prison camps. To enemy camps.
Each one delivered a sealed scroll.
No threats.
No war declarations.
Just one phrase:
"The Flame Has Returned.Follow the Circle.Ravengarde Lives."
[World State Updated]
Rumors spread of Kael's rebellion becoming a nation.
Neutral factions begin to watch. Some send envoys. Others… spies.
The Church issues a second Excommunication Decree.
Zerath responds in silence — and begins mobilizing his elite knight-corps: The Oathless.
