Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Stepping into the Unknown
Ren stood at the edge of the mountain peak, the cold wind whipping against his cloak. The trial chamber was now behind him, its ancient presence lingering in his mind. He tightened his grip on the jade crystal given to him by the Keeper. It pulsed faintly, a silent guide toward the remnants of the lost sects.
His journey had led him this far, but now came the true test—finding those who still carried the forgotten wisdom of Murim. The visions from the crystal had revealed scattered locations, but no clear path forward. He had to trust his instincts, and above all, his blade.
Descending the mountain, Ren's senses remained sharp. The wilderness was vast and unpredictable. Wild beasts, rogue cultivators, and remnants of forgotten sects lurked in the shadows, waiting for the unprepared. Every step carried an air of uncertainty, yet he felt no hesitation.
Hours passed before he reached the base of the mountain, where an old dirt road stretched into the horizon. Just as he was about to continue, he sensed movement ahead. A group of cloaked figures stood in the distance, their presence unsettling.
Ren's fingers brushed the hilt of his sword. He had learned not to trust strangers easily, especially in unfamiliar lands. As he approached, one of the figures stepped forward.
"You carry the jade fragment," the stranger said, his voice calm yet firm. "Then you have passed the Keeper's trial."
Ren's eyes narrowed. "Who are you?"
The man pulled back his hood, revealing an older face marked by time and battle. "We are seekers, much like you. The lost sects are not as forgotten as many believe. Some of us still remember."
Ren remained wary but intrigued. This was his first real lead. "If you know of the lost sects, then tell me—where do I begin?"
The stranger smirked. "That depends. Are you willing to step into the unknown?"
Ren met his gaze without hesitation. "I already have."
The man nodded. "Then follow us. There is much to learn, but even more to fight for."
Without another word, Ren followed them into the shadows of the unknown, his journey toward the lost sects truly beginning.
