Chapter 24: Mission...

It's been a bit hectic for me ever since infusing Uchiha blood into my body... My mother was startled with my changes at first, and to an extent, she still was; However, eventually she started coming around. I chalked it up to growth spurt and training, and it seemed to work, but what about the other changes? I'll have to reveal it to her eventually.
Or, I could put her and everyone here in a genjutsu so that they'll never notice...
Regardless, It's been around 3 months since I've been reborn here... What have I achieved? Physical Strength beyond the Hokage's level, chakra that surpasses Kage level and mental ability that's befitting of that status.
Wasn't I already the strongest in this era?
I'm still only 7 years old... It's sounds unbelievable, but not impossible. It's hard knowing how much more powerful I'll grow from here on compared to the rest of the world... I'm probably on the level of those in the Madara-arc. Heck, I might be on par if not stronger than even Madara himself.
If I use all of this with my new Sharingan? I'd easily be invincible. And it's all because of N.E.O. His training, his changing of my body. To think he can make someone as talentless as me this powerful in just a few months is a bit horrifying... What if his host was evil? Unhinged? What if I eventually become like that?
'Hmm~ I shouldn't think things like this...'
Still, today was the day I would start getting my own missions to do. I could even start helping her out with income. And, I'd need at least a B-rank mission to start it off with...
Hiruzen also sent over my reading materials a week ago, but of course, I finished all of them within the same day. They were just advanced ninja tactics, strategies and some history I was simply curious about. Nothing too extraordinary. The main thing I wanted was the jinja tactics to up my game in catching my opponents of guard and such.
Regardless, It's time I I head out while it's early...

The village was as lively as ever. Street vendors called out to passing shinobi, kids ran through the alleyways playing ninja, and the ever-present scent of grilled dango mixed with the crisp morning air. It was… peaceful.
But I wasn't here to enjoy the scenery.
I had business to take care of.
As I made my way toward the Mission Assignment Desk, I kept my pace relaxed, hands in my pockets. Despite my casual stride, my senses were hyper-aware. My new Sharingan enhancements were still settling in, but I could already tell the difference.
The world was much clearer now.
Not just visually, but structurally—movements, angles, minute shifts in posture—I could see everything. The way a merchant subtly adjusted his stance to balance the weight of his basket, the way a shinobi three meters away unconsciously reached for his kunai when I passed him, and the women looking at me from two stalls away...
It was like seeing beneath the surface of reality itself...
'To be honest… This is kind of addicting.'
Soon I reached the Hokage's administrative building and stepped inside. The mission hall was busy, as expected. Chuunin and Jonin alike were gathered, discussing assignments, checking mission scrolls, or waiting in line for their turn.
I didn't bother waiting.
Instead, I walked straight up to the desk, where an older shinobi was sorting through a pile of scrolls. He glanced up, eyes narrowing slightly.
"Can I help you, kid?"
I gave a polite nod, "I'm here for my first mission."
He frowned. "First mission?" His eyes scanned me up and down, lingering for a moment longer than necessary. "You a genin?"
I responded, "No."
His frown deepened. "Then what—"
"Just check the system." I gestured toward the mission log, "I should be registered under special status."
The man gave me a long, skeptical look before sighing and rolling open a scroll, scanning the names. A second later, his eyes widened slightly, "…Huh?" He looked at me again, this time with genuine curiosity.
'So, he found it. Good.'
After a brief pause, he set down the scroll and folded his arms. "Well, Hayatou… You're cleared for C-rank and below, but the Hokage made a note that you're eligible for something higher. That's… rare."
I leaned against the counter, "That's because I'm not really a, normal case."
"It seems like it... It also says here that you'll need to see the Hokage for all your missions first."
"Unfortunately..."
He shook his head and reached for a different stack of scrolls, "Fine. You said you wanted a B-rank?"
I nodded. "Preferably something with combat involved."
The man hummed in thought as he thumbed through the mission listings... A few moments later, he pulled out a scroll and slid it toward me. "Bandit camp. About fifteen of them. Intel suggests they're ex-chuunin and rogue mercenaries, so it's not a walk in the park. Good enough? Oh! It has no fee attached to it..."
Fifteen enemies, some with shinobi training. It's Perfect. Still, why didn't it have any pricing on it exactly?
... I'll take it for now... Though, I had hoped Hiruzen would have forgotten his condition; but unfortunately, he didn't. I nodded at the man, and went to see lord third...
.

.
I pushed open the doors to the Hokage's office, immediately greeted by the familiar scent of tobacco. Hiruzen Sarutobi sat behind his desk, pipe in hand, wisps of smoke curling lazily toward the ceiling.
I raised an eyebrow. "You know, that stuff isn't exactly great for your health, Lord Third."
Hiruzen chuckled, taking another slow drag before exhaling. "Ha~ Don't worry about me, I've still got a few years left in me." His eyes, sharp despite his age, studied me with quiet amusement. "Still, I take it you're here about your mission?"
I nodded. "Yeah. I noticed there wasn't anything higher than a B-rank available… and oddly enough, it didn't have a price tag attached to it. Any particular reason as to why?"
The old man took his time, inhaling another pull from his pipe before finally responding...
"That mission is the one I needed to discuss with you… Its rank has been changed. It's now classified as an S-rank assignment."
I blinked.
"...S-rank?" That was one monumental start of a jump.
My eyes narrowed slightly, "And how much does an S-rank job like this pay?"
Hiruzen took another slow drag from his pipe before answering. "The reward for an S-rank mission varies… but for this one specifically?" He exhaled a stream of smoke, his gaze unreadable, "Fifty million ryo."
I paused.
…Fifty million?
That was enough to live comfortably for years. Enough to set my mother up for life. Enough to outright buy property in the wealthier districts of the village.
My fingers tapped idly against my arm, "That's… Quite generous."
Hiruzen hummed for a moment, "It is. And it's because this mission is extremely important."
That got my attention. I glanced at the mission scroll in my hand. The details hadn't changed from when I picked it up—a bandit camp, around fifteen enemies, ex-chuunin and mercenaries. Nothing that screamed "S-rank" level danger.
I looked back at him. "Alright, Lord Third. What's the catch?"
Hiruzen smirked slightly, setting his pipe down. "You're sharp, Hayatou. I expected you to notice right away." He leaned forward, resting his elbows on the desk. "The intelligence on that mission was… incomplete. The bandit group you're set to eliminate is connected to something much larger."
I frowned slightly. "How much larger are we talking here?"
His expression grew serious, "We suspect ties to an underground network that deals in high-value black-market trades—specifically, in shinobi weaponry, human-trafficking and stolen jutsu. This isn't just a camp of rogue mercenaries. It's an arm of a much larger operation."
I processed that for a moment...
Stolen jutsu? That explained the sudden rank change. Dealing with a few high ranked ex-chuunin was one thing. Dealing with an organized criminal network with access to stolen shinobi techniques? That was entirely different breed altogether.
I let out a slow breath... "Alright. And I assume my job isn't just clearing out the bandits anymore?"
Hiruzen nodded. "Correct. Your objective is now twofold—eliminate the camp as originally planned, but also gather as much intelligence as possible on their connections. If you uncover any leads, report back immediately. Do not engage beyond your target unless absolutely necessary."
A slow smirk crept onto my lips. "You're really trusting a seven-year-old with an S-rank mission, huh? His first one too?"
Hiruzen chuckled, shaking his head, "You stopped being a normal seven-year-old the moment you knocked Fugaku unconscious."
He's heard about it huh?... Well, he wouldn't really be the Hokage if he didn't. Luckily, I even expected this too, "Fair point..."
I grabbed the mission scroll and tucked it away. "Anything else I should know about?"
Hiruzen studied me for a moment before nodding, "Yes... If this network is as large as we suspect, there's a chance you'll encounter something—or someone—far more dangerous than what's listed in that report... Also, I should inform you of the team I'm working on at the moment to help make this mission go by a bit faster."
Of course their would be, "Who are they?"
"Just two others... Kakashi Hatake and Shikaku Nara; those two will aiding you on your mission."
Not a bad decision, two of the most intelligent people in this universe, and sharpest of the bunch, I'm guessing these two will be keeping an eye out on me? Regardless, I would've taken the mission with help, or without it. It didn't matter to me.
I turned to Hiruzen, "When do we start?"
