It had been a week since the end of our mission. And I've had time to rest and do a couple of other things in that time.
I was discharged from the infirmary only yesterday, seeing that my condition is stable and I only need time to heal.
I have already written a report to my superiors, in which I described the whole mission almost completely truthfully, also revealing a bit of my not-so-common abilities, but only in the form of hints. It's still too early to reveal my full power. Besides, I'm pretty sure I'll acquire a few more enhancements from the summons.
Also during this time, some of my subordinates came to visit me and told me exactly how our mission ended. After our vehicle was followed by all the enemy, the second truck with the prisoner quietly left the enemy territory and quickly reached the base.
Already there we reported about the capture of a valuable prisoner and we were sent help, which took me to the base.
Another piece of good news is that our snipers managed to get to the base alive and unharmed. Still, I won't deny that I was a little worried about them. If they had died, I would definitely consider myself guilty for not picking them up myself.
But now that I've moved to my room and am alone, having solved the main matters, there is one very interesting thing to do, namely the summoning. Last time I checked how many summons I had, and unfortunately there were only four, which means those first two sentries died immediately from my Gias. Oh, well. System, status!
Name: Edmond Kent.
Race: Human
Power Level: 10
Available summons: 4.
Number of summoned: 1
Number absorbed: 3
Stock characters: Alice Nakiri
Now it's time to start the summonings. This time, along with the souls of regular terrorists, I also have the soul of a mercenary who was far from the word regular, so the chance of me being able to summon a strong character is much higher. And now that I know what kind of world I'm in, strength is especially important.
System, launch the summoning!
The summoning is in progress.
Evaluating the victim's soul.
A suitable summon is searched for...
The summoner has been found.
The summoning was successful.
Summoned Toyohisa Shimazu from the anime Wanderers.
Power level: 10
What will you do with him?
Summon/Absorb/Store him
Hmm, Toyohisa Shimazu, huh? I seem to recall. One anime I don't remember much about, but he was one of the key characters in it. He was a samurai and a swordsman. I think his skills would be useful to me. Certainly more useful than him.
System, I choose absorption!
After that, just like last time, my eyes went black and I found myself in a different place.
*****
A son was born into the family of a Japanese samurai. From childhood he was gifted in the art of the sword, but his father also noticed in him the characteristics of a great leader.
The boy himself, however, was much more fond of the art of the sword and wanted to become a samurai, just like his father. Spending months in training with the sword, he achieved that he was able to surpass in his art all his peers and compare with the real masters.
But as soon as he was able to become a full-fledged samurai, he immediately had to go to the battlefield. However, the guy himself was only happy about this outcome, because it was there he could help his father and uncle, having fulfilled his duty as a samurai.
He was appointed commander, but he was never the one who gave orders to the army from the rear. No, on the contrary, he was one of the first to go into battle, leading the army, and giving orders quite competently.
In each of his battles he turned out to be the winner, until the turning point happened. In one of the battles the guy together with his uncle defeated the opponents and their armies were already returning home with victory.
But on the way back, they were ambushed, in which they were destined to die. The uncle wanted to send the lad home to let him save himself, but the lad didn't agree to go with him either and stayed on the battlefield. He didn't want to be a coward and decided to die with his soldiers, in an unequal battle.
However, not everything was as bad as it might seem. In this battle, the young man surpassed himself, literally snatching his life from the clutches of his opponents.
Towards the end of the battle, his body was covered in wounds that a normal person would not have been able to survive, but he still stood as steady as ever, looking at the sea of corpses. He was the only one who had survived the battle.
And so he set off on the road. Without a horse, covered in wounds and stripped of his strength, the warrior walked slowly towards his home...
*****
I dredged up from someone else's memories, which I found quite interesting. A young lad who dedicated his life to honing the art of the sword and war. An interesting life as a samurai in the past. However, I had gained many good things from it.
My body had improved once again, and with it I was now just fine with a sword. It would seem that there are not many people in this world who can surpass me in the art of sword wielding. But that's not enough against truly powerful enemies. Skill alone will not defeat some.
Next call, system.
An invocation is made.
The victim's soul is assessed.
A suitable summoning is sought.
The summoner is found.
The summoning is successful.
The summoner is Anthony Masters from Marvel Comics.
Power level: 10.
What will you do with him?
Summon/absorb/store him.
Anthony Masters? Who the hell is this guy? Also from marvel, very interesting. Gotta strain my memory, I have a better one now after all, so I should remember who that is. And yes, I think I do know the character.
Tuskmaster, a very useful character. A martial arts master who can copy any move your opponent makes? That's too useful to pass up.
Absorb it!
*****
A fairly ordinary little American boy had unusual abilities from childhood. He could replicate almost any movement he saw. After seeing athletes on TV, he would make the same movements as they did in a couple of hours. And after watching the fight of two boxers, the boy was able to perfectly repeat some of their movements, which greatly encouraged him.
Having discovered in himself such an unusual ability, the boy began to copy everything he saw, making it his goal to study other people's movements.
His path led him to Tiber, where he spent several months among the monks, studying their life and copying meditations, with the help of which it was possible to control his own body almost perfectly.
Having grown up, he decided to join the army, where he proved himself to be extremely useful, and was transferred to a secret government organisation called Shield.
Already there, as an agent, he did not get out of missions, improving his skills more and more. In this organisation the guy got acquainted with a girl, whom he later married. Such a life suited the guy and he did not really want to change it. However, one incident changed it completely.
On one of the missions in his hands he got a serum, which greatly enhanced memory and reflexes. The guy needed to keep it at any cost, but he was on the tail of too many enemy agents who wanted to kidnap her.
Under such circumstances, he had no choice but to inject it into himself to keep it at least in his own body. That was his mistake, for the serum also had a serious side effect. It almost completely destroyed the guy's entire memory, making him forget about his past.
Because of the intrigues in his organisation, the guy, who had forgotten almost his entire life, was made to believe that he was the head of a criminal organisation of mercenaries.
That's when the story of Taskmaster began, a professional mercenary who could copy any movement of any man. He fought with many opponents, each of whom had his own style of fighting, which he managed to copy.
The guy could be called the best martial artist in the world, because there was no fighting style he didn't know. However, in his world, it wasn't enough to have a mere fighting style.
There were too many people in the world who were too far superior to him. The supernatural abilities that could plunge entire countries into chaos terrified him, because he could not deal with such people with his own abilities.
But realising that he could not cope with such opponents, he devised a way to defeat them. He began to train students who were originally not ordinary people. They were talented, had special abilities, or were simply superior to humans in every way.
With his knowledge of martial arts, his students would be able to defeat almost any opponent. But this initiative did not end well, because his enemies were able to find out about it, as well as his not-so-legal ways of finding students, which consisted of kidnapping children and blackmailing parents.
Because of all this, his plan failed, and he was sent to prison, from which, however, with his abilities was not difficult to escape.
After his escape he decided to calm down a bit, and now he was just a mercenary. He could do almost anything for money, so there were plenty of people who hired him.
This was how he continued his life, fighting strong opponents, copying new styles and defeating enemies. Among those who had no special abilities, he had no equal. Only a few people were able to defeat him without having any special abilities that could make him respect them.
In the end, his life ended rather trivially for a man of his profession. One particularly strong mutant simply killed him with his abilities, without even letting him get close....
*****
The life of a shufflemaster was quite colourful, though a bit too sad from what I felt. It was as if this man had no real goals, yet I didn't see the whole picture. I only adopted some of his experiences, omitting a lot of personal experiences that I just didn't need, according to the system. Well, it's for the best.
I'm sure in the future I'll also be summoning characters who have lived for hundreds of years, in which case handing over all their memories to me wouldn't be too positive.
Now it's time to continue the summoning...
