Chapter 211: 211 come back
The two of them rode the horses at full gallop.
The goal was to leave here as quickly as possible. They weren't sure if what those two said was true, but it was better to believe it might be true than not.
They didn't feel the journey was so tough when they came. But why did it feel so slow when going back?
Yuanyuan felt her whole body aching. It really hurt.
She drank a glass of Spiritual Spring Water, which made her feel a bit better.
At night, the horses' vision was affected, so their speed slowed down a lot.
The two of them arrived at a small village on the border a week later.
After dismounting, Yuanyuan patted the horse's head, "Thank you, friend." She still took out water to feed them, and even gave each one a drop of Spiritual Spring Water, to repay them.
"Let's go."
They turned to enter the forest, but the two horses refused to leave, following them.
Yuanyuan knew the two horses were following and couldn't do anything about it, so she returned and patted their heads. "Go back. I can't take you with me. Go back."
The two of them continued on. The two horses started circling in place.
Tan Shaoting watched the little girl beside him with red-rimmed eyes.
This girl was too emotional. This wasn't good, as she was too easily swayed by emotions.
The two of them moved even faster this time. Though they weren't familiar with the route, they had traveled it once before.
The harvest here was significant, and Yuanyuan was undoubtedly satisfied. It was already the New Year back home, but the two of them were outside, having forgotten about the celebration due to the lack of festive atmosphere.
"No need to rush."
"Only when we return home can we feel at ease."
Tan Shaoting was amused by Yuanyuan's words. "I feel like you're confident anywhere."
"Not really. I'm a bit scared now; it's all just putting on an act."
Tan Shaoting laughed!
They arrived again at the small valley. After setting up the tent, it was still Yuanyuan who took a bath and changed clothes.
When they rested, "Tan Shaoting, our disguise should almost be wearing off, right?"
"It should be soon."
"Why should it be?"
"Because I haven't tried it here. It's been almost three months since we put on the disguise, just two or three days more. We'll know by then, won't we?"
"What do you think Zhang Chunsheng will suspect if we appear before him like this?"
"It's fine; we still have about a week to travel. There's no rush.
Go to sleep; I'll keep watch." The little girl hadn't had a good sleep for five days.
Yuanyuan didn't hesitate and fell asleep as soon as she lay down. Watching the girl talk for seconds before dozing off showed just how extremely tired she was.
He was also bored, so he began unraveling stones with Divine Sense on the side. Anyway, there was no need to rush; if he did nothing, the sweetly sleeping little girl beside him would make him sleepy too.
After dawn, Yuanyuan hadn't woken up, but when she opened her eyes and saw Tan Shaoting smiling, she felt truly refreshed.
"Thank you, Tan Shaoting."
"Why so polite?"
"Just suddenly felt like thanking you."
They tidied up before having breakfast.
Yuanyuan was a bit tired of the space food, but she had to keep at it. All she craved was some pickled vegetables with porridge, and a dripping salted duck egg. That would be delightful.
Eating meat buns now felt like the same old taste. She was really unwilling to eat them, but there was nothing else to do on the road.
"Yuanyuan, your hair?"
"It's fine like this."
"Not planning to grow it out?"
"I am."
"Yuanyuan, if Zhang Chunsheng offered you a chance to leave the farm, would you really stay?"
Yuanyuan nodded, "I wouldn't, I'm still too young at fourteen. What can I do? Better to stay on the farm.
What about if you had the chance? You're old enough to work outside."
"I haven't decided yet!"
Yuanyuan smiled, "Don't be like that. You should choose what's suitable for you. I see that Zhang Chunsheng seems to want you to join the army too."
Tan Shaoting shook his head, "It's not suitable for me. But if there's a need, I'll do it without hesitation."
Yuanyuan understood. Tan Shaoting indeed wasn't quite suitable; they had too many secrets. Collective life really wasn't for them.
So she said no more. Anyway, they wouldn't refuse good opportunities.
Because of their disguise, they couldn't rush too much. So they continued at the same pace as before. By the third day, a miracle truly happened. The two gradually returned to their original appearance.
"It's really amazing."
"Yeah, it's really amazing. We'll need to change clothes when we get back."
On the sixth day, they were almost at the border. They decided to return that day, so they crossed into the country in the dark, stepping over the Boundary Stone.
Yuanyuan felt an incredible sense of peace. This must be the feeling of home.
They found a concealed spot to set up a tent, wash and change clothes.
Lying on the nation's soil, Yuanyuan felt at ease.
"If there's nothing for us to do, let's head back; we still have so many cabbages and radishes."
"Sure, you want to go back?"
"Of course I want to, I miss home."
Regarding her talk of home, Tan Shaoting loved to hear it. Indeed, that was their home.
The next day at dawn, after the two of them had tidied up, they took out some things they'd bought from the other side, these needed to pass through proper channels.
The money they took over was mostly spent, but it had all been replenished; they didn't want to take advantage of the state.
Just before noon, they found Zhang Chunsheng.
Seeing the two back, Zhang Chunsheng was thrilled.
"Welcome back safely."
The two were excited to hear his words. "Thank you, Mr. Zhang."
Zhang Chunsheng looked at their condition and knew they were well, even if the little girl had turned into a lad.
But this was good. Ruan Lingyu had said they had rejected Sotun.
That guy was indeed too lustful. But he behaved well within the country, so they had not dealt with him.
The three entered a secluded house, guarded from outside.
It was mostly Tan Shaoting speaking, with Yuanyuan adding bits. After all, they'd successfully completed the mission.
"You two can rest here."
The two nodded with smiles, handed over the money, and felt a weight lifted off their shoulders.
Zhang Chunsheng went to report the job, and the two could finally relax here.
They were unfamiliar with the place, so they opted not to go out.
Having rare free time, coming from the farm and not having laid back for over four months, it was a sudden change to be idle, and they didn't quite adapt.
But Yuanyuan knew she couldn't do anything here; it was better to stay put, stay calm. It avoided troubling thoughts. She also didn't want to see Ruan Lingyu; she'd already promised her something and would ask Zhang Chunsheng to send it before their departure.
