Reborn in Type-Moon, My Sister is Aoko Aozaki

Chapter 85: Volume 1: Chapter 86 - An Older Sister's Punishment

The next day, early in the morning, Aozaki Aoko touched her head, which still seemed to be faintly aching, as she left her bedroom. She couldn't help but feel that her older sister, Aozaki Touko, had been a little too harsh last night.

She was just having a normal sibling conversation with Aozaki Rin; was there really a need to use that much force?

But what she got last night wasn't all bad news. At least for the next few days, she wouldn't have to go to school and could stay at home in peace.

As for the reason... although Touko had explained that it was a little unsettled outside, Aoko understood that this matter was likely related to magi or the like, which was why it had turned out this way.

Aoko wasn't particularly worried about this. For one, she didn't know much about things related to magecraft, and for another, she trusted that Touko could handle everything.

Making her way down the stairs to the living room, the aroma of freshly baked bread soon wafted around the girl's delicate nose.

Aoko couldn't help but feel a pang of hunger. As she stepped into the living room, she saw Aozaki Rin, wearing his glasses, fiddling with an old-fashioned phonograph, a thick book in his hand.

Touko's figure was nowhere to be seen in the living room. Aoko knew that, as was her sister's habit, she had likely left breakfast behind and returned directly to her magus's workshop in the mountains.

"Good morning, Sister. The breakfast Sister Touko prepared is still in the kitchen. I'll go get it."

Hearing the sound of the girl coming downstairs, Aozaki Rin stopped what he was doing and was about to get up and go to the kitchen, but Aoko quickly waved her hand to stop him.

"No need, I can get it myself. But, did you go to Alice's house yesterday just to borrow this book?"

"Mhm."

Glancing at the title written on the book's cover, Aoko stretched lazily, went to the kitchen, and saw the very simple meal of toast, fried eggs, and bacon, along with a glass of milk, laid out on the dining table. An expression that said, "I was a fool for getting my hopes up," appeared on her face.

After all, the truth was that neither of the Aozaki sisters was good at cooking.

And while Touko's skill level was indeed slightly better than Aoko's, that was only because she had learned a little about cooking out of her duty as an older sister; her own skills were not particularly advanced.

"By the way, why were you guys so late coming back last night?"

Aoko finished the homely-tasting breakfast on the table in a few quick bites, went to the living room, sat down on the sofa, and casually turned on the television. She glanced at the boy who was kneeling at the small square table in the middle of the living room, slowly adjusting the phonograph, and asked offhandedly.

"...B-Because we stopped by the church on the way, so we got back late."

There was nothing wrong with the boy's words, but Aoko noticed very carefully that Aozaki Rin's body seemed to stiffen for a moment.

"Really? You're not hiding something from me, are you, Rin?"

Instinctively sensing that something was amiss, Aoko stared at Aozaki Rin's back with a suspicious expression. As if to test him, she lifted her foot, her pearly, jade-like toes spreading slightly, the fair arch of her foot rising a little. The girl then used her toes to gently brush against a ticklish spot on Aozaki Rin's waist, causing his body to tense up subconsciously.

"R-Really, I'm not."

"Is that so..."

As if accepting the boy's explanation, Aoko stopped her actions, allowing Aozaki Rin, who was not good at lying, to breathe a sigh of relief. But in the next instant, the girl suddenly and silently got up from the sofa, came to Aozaki Rin's side, and pressed down on the boy's shoulders, turning his body to face her. Her blue eyes stared at the boy's small face as she said threateningly.

"Do you think I'd believe that? Hurry up and tell me, what really happened?"

"We just went to the church to help with some things..."

Aozaki Rin firmly remembered what Aozaki Touko had told him last night—the suggestion to keep the matter of the Dead Apostle a secret from Aoko. After all, he himself didn't want the girl to be frightened by this matter, so he could only choose to fob her off with another excuse.

But Aoko sighed as if somewhat disappointed, cupped the boy's small face in her hands, and said helplessly.

"Rin, did you know that when something is on your mind, you have a habit of unconsciously 'looking' away from the direction of the voice you're speaking to?"

"Eh?"

Aozaki Rin was taken aback for a moment, as if he had never expected that he had such a habit. But Aoko paid no mind to the surprise on the boy's face. A sense of "I knew it" flashed in her eyes, and then, as if with a deliberate, menacing grin, she said fiercely.

"Looks like you won't tell the truth without a little punishment. I don't remember Rin becoming such a bad, lying boy... Take this!"

In the instant Aozaki Rin was stunned, Aoko let go of his face and shot her hands directly to the sensitive spots on his sides. Her ten long, slender white fingers were like nimble, dancing butterflies, leaping upon the boy's ticklish flesh.

In an instant, an unbearable ticklish sensation spread from his waist. Aozaki Rin was immediately defeated, curling his waist and subconsciously trying to push the girl's hands away, but he felt a little weak. A smile that was both trying to endure and uncontrollably trembling appeared on his small face as he begged for mercy.

"P-Please stop, Sister! I was wrong, p-please don't do this anymore, haha..."

But faced with the boy's pleas, Aoko had no intention of letting him off so easily. Instead, the corners of her lips curled up slightly, and her hands did not stop as she pressed on.

"Where were you wrong? Hurry up and tell me, what did you and Big Sis really do last night?"

"R-Really, we just went to the church, haha... Father... Father Fumizuka can prove it..."

Mentally apologizing to Eiri Fumizuka, Aozaki Rin had an extremely low tolerance for things like tickling since he was a child and would quickly lose his resistance. While laughing helplessly, he instinctively struggled, trying to escape from the girl's embrace.

However, Aoko held the boy tightly, not letting him escape, her hands continuously "doing evil."

Finally, under the boy's constant struggling and shifting, the girl couldn't maintain her balance for a moment, and, slightly off-kilter, she fell onto the floor along with the boy, the two of them rolling over a few times while still holding each other.

"Hah... are you hurt... Sister?"

Panting softly to calm his laughter, Aozaki Rin lay on the floor, his hands subconsciously guarding the "weak spots" on his sides. A slight, unnatural flush from holding back his laughter remained on his fair, smooth face, and there were traces of moisture at the corners of his eyes. Even the glasses on his face had fallen off to the side during the struggle.

It seemed that he had really struggled hard to hide the truth just now.

"...No."

Staring at the ceiling, Aoko shook her head, also panting slightly, her full chest rising and falling a little, the corners of her lips unconsciously curling up.

She glanced at the boy who was now resting his head on her arm, who, despite having just undergone "torture," was now showing concern for her.

Suddenly, she felt that the answer to her earlier question wasn't that important anymore.

Lying on the slightly cool floor, slowly waiting for their breathing to return to a normal rhythm, neither the girl nor the boy spoke.

Just like this, listening to each other's heartbeats, they seemed to feel a sense of peace...

Volume 1: Chapter 89 - Beast, Spider, Serpent

Inside the magus's workshop in the mountains, Aozaki Touko's face wore a rare look of anger. As if unable to comprehend something, she subconsciously threw the thick stack of magical reports in her hand onto the desk with a slap, nearly knocking the teacup to the floor.

It was only after several seconds that she finally calmed down again. Taking a deep breath, her fine brows furrowed as she recalled the conversation she had just had with a certain old man in the mountains behind her house.

Originally, Touko had intended to question her grandfather about the Dead Apostle from the [Twenty-seven Ancestors] she had encountered yesterday, as well as the strange power that had suddenly appeared in Aozaki Rin.

But to her surprise, the old man refused to talk about it. Even when she had finally, out of helplessness, demanded that if he himself would not address the matter, then he should pass the True Magic on to her as soon as possible so that she could handle it all, the old man, known to the world as a Magician, had only replied thusly:

—["If you seek to rely on True Magic for something like this, then you will never be able to reach that final step, no matter what."]

Fine. In that case, I'll prove it to you! Even without True Magic, I can reach the level of the [Twenty-seven Ancestors] on my own. When that time comes, you'll have nothing left to say about bestowing the True Magic!

Believing this to be a trial given to her by the old man, Aozaki Touko, after a brief moment of anger, felt a fighting spirit ignite within her instead.

However, she had not lost her senses to the point where she planned to actively seek out Nero Chaos, who was currently hiding somewhere in Misaki City, intending to prove herself in such a foolish way by defeating him.

After all, matters concerning Dead Apostles were best left to the Church. As a magus, she only needed to let her research results speak for themselves.

Pulling out a report on several large-scale spells from a drawer, one that had been temporarily shelved due to difficulties in research progress, Touko sat down, put on her glasses, and her expression immediately became focused.

In her eyes, as long as she could ultimately obtain the True Magic and change the feeling of powerlessness she had felt at that time, when she could only let the boy protect her, then all of this was bearable.

Even if she couldn't gain recognition now, after she completed these studies, she would surely be qualified.

The rustling sound of writing soon filled the workshop. The girl's eyes, fixed on the report, were pure and confident.

In a certain dark forest in Misaki City, where the sunlight could not penetrate, several monstrous, all-black hounds were gnawing on the corpses of two Executors on the ground.

Nero Chaos looked down at the amber in his hand, his brow furrowed as if in deep thought. Just then, as if sensing something, he slipped the amber back into his sleeve. His iron-black eyes looked toward a bush in a nearby shadow, and he spoke as if to himself.

"I didn't expect you to be here as well."

The man's words drifted quietly in the air. Before long, a slight rustle came from within that bush, and then a jet-black, red-eyed spider, only about half the size of a palm, slowly crawled out.

Then, surprisingly, the cheerful voice of a mature, intoxicated-sounding woman came from the spider's mouth.

—["Hah, so you found me out? As expected of Nero-chan, your intuition really is like a beast's!"]

"So, why are you here?"

—["Relax, my purpose should be quite different from yours. After all, I just happened to discover something interesting in this country and wanted to study it. But I also happened to hear that the actions of the Executors in several cities have been abnormal, so I thought I'd come take a look. I didn't expect that those people were actually hunting you."]

—["In any case, what are you doing in a place like this instead of staying in your workshop? I don't remember you ever becoming the outdoorsy type, Nero-chan."]

There was surprise in the spider's words, but more than surprise, it felt like someone rambling in a drunken stupor.

"I am merely completing my research. Since our objectives are different, then we need not interfere with each other."

Not bothering to correct the strange nickname the spider used for him, because Nero Chaos knew that even if he did, that woman would not change in the slightest.

—["Ehh~~ Not going to reveal anything at all? And here I thought we were already friends back when we were doing research together in the North Sea."]

The spider let out a sigh as if its heart was wounded, but in the next second, it let out a light laugh and said.

—["But I heard from Roa-chan a while ago that he apparently gave that thing to you. To be honest, it shocked me a little. I can't believe Roa-chan was willing to put that in your hands. What kind of deal did you two make?"]

—["And you, who are always used to staying in your workshop, actually came all the way here, and you say it's for research... I say, don't tell me you actually believed Roa-chan's story and think that 'reincarnating' 'Son of God' can complete that research of yours? So, is that person on this land right now? You haven't found them yet?"]

His voice was tinged with mockery. Nero Chaos's face darkened a shade, and he stared at the spider coldly.

"Since you already knew, what was the point of beating around the bush before?"

—["Haha, because it's more interesting this way. Who told you to always wear such a long face, Nero-chan? In my opinion, your life as a Dead Apostle is still far too lacking in fun~! Alright, don't be so quick to get angry now. After all, you, me, and Roa-chan are research partners, so don't mind what I said just now~!"]

—["But, you really aren't afraid of death, are you, Nero-chan? You should know that while that thing can guide you to a certain extent, it doesn't just lead you to that one person, but also to a certain terrifying Princess, you know~!"]

"I am naturally aware of this fact. That is why I lent my workshop to that fellow, 'the Serpent'. Judging by the time, that fellow should be just about to be discovered by that princess."

Nero Chaos let out a cold snort, his brow furrowing once more.

Just as he said, the plan he and a certain Dead Apostle had devised to attract the attention of a certain princess was reaching its limit.

At most, in another two or three days, that princess would likely follow her senses and come straight from the North Atlantic. At that time, not only would he have to retreat first, but he would also have to destroy this "amber" that was attracting her.

So he had to seize the remaining time to find his target.

Otherwise, not only would his research stagnate again, but he would also lose a magus's workshop that had been meticulously arranged for many years.

But how could one act so freely on land where a Magician resided?

Although he didn't understand why that Magician hadn't come after him after yesterday's incident, after his plan to capture Aozaki Touko had failed, Nero Chaos didn't want to test that Magician's attitude any further. He could only dodge the pursuit of the Executors while speeding up his search for his target.

—["I see, so you and Roa-chan had it all planned out. But this method is too risky. It seems you've been really anxious about that research of yours recently."]

There was a sense of realization in the spider's tone, and at the same time, it seemed to carry a trace of sympathy.

—["But the population of a city is a little too large. I estimate you have at most one or two days left. It won't be easy to find a specific person in such a short time. If you knew the other's characteristics, it might be possible..."]

—["Speaking of which, I did hear from Trhvmn-chan once that although that person seems like they can see everything, they are actually in a state of blindness, and sometimes, patterns appear in their golden pupils... What a subtle description."]

—["But Trhvmn-chan seems to have been shot from afar by that 'Son of God' in the past, and it's said that the wound still hasn't healed. He shouldn't be wrong... Hm? Nero-chan? What are you doing?"]

The spider asked, as if puzzled, because in its line of sight, the man who had been listening to its chattering with some impatience had, at this moment, as if making a connection, after a brief moment of shock, a grin of excitement uncontrollably spread across his lips.

"Hah... is that so, so that's how it is... To think it was right there all along... Hahaha!"

Clutching his forehead with one hand, unable to stop himself from laughing out loud, the man was filled with a sense of elation, as if he were about to find the answer he had been seeking all his life.

—["Um... Nero-chan, are you really okay?"]

The spider crawled forward a few steps and continued to ask, but the man did not answer its question. At the same time, behind it, a black hound quietly materialized and swallowed it in one gulp.

And it was only after several minutes, when the laughter had stopped and the forest had returned to silence, that Nero Chaos seemed to have regained his reason. A crimson glint appeared in his black eyes as he said in a low voice.

"I've found you, 'Child of Singularity'."
