Chapter 26: The Ramblings of Liu Yu
"What prophecy?" Su Ling asked, puzzled.
Liu Yu had always given her a mysterious feeling, but one thing was certain—he was definitely not an ordinary accountant.
Still fixated on the shrimp in Lin Ye's hand, Liu Yu spoke slowly and eerily, "I once read about the end of the world in an ancient book with missing pages. It said that when the first rain comes, animals will undergo mutations, and the world will eliminate a group of people. Only those who survive all the disasters can truly become saviors."
"Prophecy?" Su Ling wasn't a firm believer in such things.
Every day, there were countless people making baseless predictions, and once one of them happened to be right, they were worshipped as if they were divine. All those Indian prodigies and Wan Chai old ladies were just fakes.1Wan Chai is a district in Hong Kong known for its vibrant and bustling atmosphere.
Liu Yu pondered for a moment and said, "Maybe. At the time, I just casually flipped through the book and didn't expect to actually see shrimp with wings."
Seeing everyone's interest in the shrimp, Gu Kai Xuan came over and took out a small bottle from his pocket.
In a childish voice, he said, "I also have a fish with legs. It's quite interesting."
Liu Yu glanced at it and involuntarily took a step back in fear.
"A fish with legs? This world is truly going to be destroyed."
After saying that, he entered the house without looking back.
Su Ling and Lin Ye exchanged glances and both felt that Liu Yu was a bit strange.
At this moment, the sound of a car engine came, and Sheng Hongye's Land Rover rushed in from outside.
The car door opened, and Li Xueying, wearing a wide-brimmed hat, stepped out of the car. When she saw Su Ling, she couldn't help but smirk and called out sweetly to Sheng Hongye, "Big Brother Ye, I'll go in first."
As she passed by Su Ling, she provocatively glanced at her before walking away contentedly.
"Is she crazy?"
Su Ling muttered under her breath.
Then two more cars came in from outside, loaded with a lot of supplies, and some people had bloodstains on them.
Lin Ye hurriedly went up to greet them and opened the door to carry the supplies.
Sheng Hongye also got out of the car, wearing a cap similar to a military cap.
He raised his narrow eyes and looked at Su Ling.
"Miss Su seems to be feeling much better?"
Su Ling nodded and asked, "Did someone get injured?"
Sheng Hongye said casually, "It's nothing serious, just a few scratches."
"Do they need bandaging?" Su Ling asked.
As the team's doctor, she had to do her best.
Sheng Hongye walked towards them and looked Su Ling up and down, saying, "They've already been taken care of."
"Oh."
Su Ling responded, "Then I'll go in first."
Because of Li Xueying's presence, she didn't want to get too close to Sheng Hongye so as not to cause unnecessary trouble.
At this moment, all she wanted was to survive; she really had no other thoughts.
"Wait."
Sheng Hongye called her back and took out two caps from his backpack, handing one to Gu Kai Xuan and one to Su Ling.
Gu Kai Xuan immediately took it and happily put it on.
"Thanks, Uncle."
Su Ling hesitated for a moment and said, "Let’s give it to someone else."
Without saying a word, Sheng Hongye opened the cap and placed it on her head.
In a low voice, he said, "This one is for you."
Su Ling looked up in surprise, and Sheng Hongye's mouth curled up slightly before he turned and walked towards the warehouse.
Su Ling bit her lip and glanced at the third floor behind her. Sure enough, a figure flashed by the window and disappeared behind the curtain.
There was no doubt that it was Li Xueying spying on them.
Thinking of her audacious demeanor, Su Ling sneered, leading Gu Kai Xuan into the house.
When they reached the corridor, she felt something was amiss, so she squatted down and said to Gu Kai Xuan, "Sweetheart, let's throw away that little fish. If it ends up like in the movies, turning into a giant monster, we'll be in danger."
Gu Kai Xuan's eyes widened instantly, clearly scared.
"Auntie, could that really happen?"
Su Ling shook her head and said seriously, "Auntie is not sure, but it's better to be cautious."
Gu Kai Xuan looked a little sad. "But if we throw it away, there'll be no one to play with me."
Seeing him looking crestfallen, Su Ling felt a bit sorry.
"Don't be sad, Kai Xuan. There will definitely be other little animals to play with you in the future."
Gu Kai Xuan sighed like a little adult.
"I used to have a little dog, but it must be dead now."
Su Ling held his small hand and said softly, "No, maybe it's still alive somewhere, and one day, it might come to find you."
Gu Kai Xuan blinked his big eyes and then nodded with determination.
When they were about to go to the drain to dispose of the bottle's contents, they suddenly heard someone shouting, "Zombies! Quick, close the door!"
The group quickly shut the door, but they could already hear a series of howls. This was the second time zombies had attacked during the day.
To avoid frightening the child, Su Ling hurriedly led Gu Kai Xuan to the third floor.
Upon hearing the noise, Geng Hao immediately ran out. "Sister Su, are the zombies attacking again?"
Su Ling's face turned grim. "Yes, it sounds like there are a lot of them."
Geng Hao promptly offered, "I'll go down and help."
"Wait, where's Liu Yu?" Su Ling called him back.
Geng Hao replied, "He's lying inside the room, seems to be feeling unwell."
Su Ling furrowed her brows. He was fine just now, so why was he suddenly feeling unwell? Could it be because of the shrimp with wings?
Just as she was about to check on him, an urgent system alert sounded in her mind.
"Defense decreased by five percent, defense decreased by five percent..."
Su Ling's body tensed up. She realized that the defense mentioned in the alert must be the overall defense of the entire building. Moreover, she had never seen such a rapid decrease before. Just how many zombies were coming?
Her scalp tingled with fear, but Sheng Hongye wasn't there, so she didn't dare to use her wide-range reinforcing ability.
As she pondered, the final alert sounded, followed by the sound of breaking glass.
"Ahh!"
Gu Kai Xuan clung tightly to Su Ling.
"Auntie, I'm so scared."
"Don't be afraid, dear. With your uncle here, the zombies won't get in."
Su Ling's words had just fallen when Liu Yu rushed out of his room.
He shouted to Su Ling, "Run, we can't hold them back here."
He held a long strip of cloth, tied it to the window on the third floor, and was about to jump out of the window.
Su Ling reached out and grabbed him. "Liu Yu, are you crazy? This is the third floor! Do you want to jump to your death?"
Liu Yu grinned at her, his expression a bit crazed. "I won't die. As long as we head east, we'll survive. Su Ling, you have to trust me. Let's go together."
Su Ling was startled and quickly let go of him.
"What nonsense are you talking about, Liu Yu? What's wrong with you?"
Liu Yu tied one end of the cloth to himself and said to Su Ling, "Many people will die in the base today, including Lin Ye. But not you. That's all I'm saying. If you don't leave, then good luck to you."
With that, Liu Yu jumped out of the window.
