Chapter 15: When Choosing Allies Naturally Means Choosing the Strongest
"What did Guan Shan say to you?"
Sheng Hongye gently set Gu Kai Xuan down and raised his deep-probing eyes.
Su Ling glanced in the direction where Guan Shan had disappeared and shrugged. "He said he wanted to take me to a place with abundant supplies."
A trace of inquiry flickered in Sheng Hongye's eyes. "And what do you think about it, Miss Su?"
Su Ling smiled and replied, "If Mr. Sheng still intends to go to Lizhou, then I'll follow you."
Sheng Hongye asked in return, "And what if I decide not to go?"
Su Ling thought for a moment and said, "Then I'll go on my own."
"Does Miss Su still believe there might be a refuge in Lizhou?"
Recalling information from her previous life, Su Ling nodded. "Even if there isn't, I still want to take a look."
Sheng Hongye's voice suddenly deepened. "In the apocalypse, death is common, and it cannot be measured by ordinary standards. If one keeps clinging to the past, life will not move forward."
Su Ling couldn't help but admire him. He truly lived up to his high position; his perspective was indeed different.
Then she asked, "I wonder what Mr. Sheng's plans are. Will you still go to Lizhou?"
Sheng Hongye curved his lips and looked at Su Ling. "Of course, Lizhou also holds something important to me. Miss Su can rest assured to follow."
"Then it's settled. I'll rely on Mr. Sheng's care along the way."
Su Ling extended her hand towards Sheng Hongye.
He clasped her hand. "I must thank Miss Su for choosing me."
Su Ling chuckled. "People always admire the strong, so naturally, I choose a powerful ally."
"Oh, my face hurts."
Gu Kai Xuan's voice came from the side. Su Ling quickly withdrew her hand and swiftly moved him into the shadows.
"It seems the sun has truly mutated. It can cause a stinging sensation. The ultraviolet rays must be dozens of times stronger."
"Indeed. We don't know if there are other dangers from the ultraviolet rays. We must find a safe place as soon as possible, stock up on food and supplies, and be fully prepared in case of drastic climate changes and subsequent natural disasters."
Sheng Hongye turned to Su Ling. "If Miss Su doesn't have any other urgent matters, we'll head to Lizhou tomorrow morning."
Su Ling naturally hoped for a swift departure. "I have no objections."
Sheng Hongye nodded, then took Gu Kai Xuan back into his arms. "Let's check on Geng Hao's condition first."
As they walked back together, Li Xueying hurriedly returned to the hospital room.
"Brother Hong, are we leaving now?"
Sheng Hongye set Gu Kai Xuan down and calmly replied, "Tomorrow morning."
Excited at the prospect of leaving this dreadful place, Li Xueying's spirits soared.
"Then I'll tidy up my things," Sheng Hongye nodded and looked at Geng Hao.
"How are you?" he asked.
Geng Hao gritted his teeth. "I'm fine, I can go."
After a moment of contemplation, Sheng Hongye said, "I'll help you find a spare crutch later."
Geng Hao immediately expressed gratitude, "Thank you, Mr. Sheng."
Gu Kai Xuan immediately clung to Sheng Hongye's thigh. "Uncle, I want to go too."
The little guy had been lying on the bed for three or four days, and his childlike restlessness couldn't be contained any longer. The short playtime just now couldn't satisfy him at all.
Sheng Hongye affectionately rubbed the child's head. "Alright, let's go for another walk."
Guan Shan immediately asked, "Has Mr. Sheng decided? Are we going to Lizhou?"
Sheng Hongye raised an eyebrow, his calm gaze carrying the aura of someone long accustomed to a high position.
"Don't you want to go?" he asked.
Guan Shan hurriedly replied, "No, I'm just worried that Mr. Sheng might be in danger."
"There are no zombies during the day. What's there to fear? At night, we'll find a sturdy house, and that will be enough," Sheng Hongye said.
Li Xueying was afraid that Sheng Hongye might change his mind. After all, he also had business in Lizhou, and if the hotel didn't collapse, she could finally take a shower and get a good night's sleep.
Guan Shan glanced at her but remained silent.
Sheng Hongye had already stepped out of the room, and Li Xueying immediately followed.
"Brother Hong, I also want to go out for a walk."
As the door closed, Su Ling suddenly became unsure if it was right or wrong to follow Sheng Hongye. If she had to see this green tea bitch every day, she'd rather set off on her own for some peace and quiet.
"Have Miss Su and Mr. Sheng already discussed this?" Guan Shan lifted his head, a hint of sarcasm in his eyes.
Su Ling tried to sound natural as she replied, "Lizhou was Mr. Sheng's decision long ago, not a result of any discussion with me. Mr. Sheng is not the kind of person easily influenced by others."
Guan Shan took a couple of steps towards Su Ling and sneered, "From a woman's perspective, that may be true. But from a doctor's perspective, it might be different."
Feeling his ill intentions, Su Ling couldn't help but feel nervous.
"What do you mean by that, Mr. Guan?"
Guan Shan's body flashed, and he rushed towards Su Ling.
At that moment, the door was kicked open, and Sheng Hongye swiftly arrived in front of Su Ling.
"Guan Shan, you're truly disappointing," Sheng Hongye said, startling Guan Shan. His square face instantly turned fierce.
"Now that you already know, there's nothing left to say. Yes, I've tolerated you for a long time."
Guan Shan cursed and threw a punch at Sheng Hongye.
Sheng Hongye's five fingers suddenly spread out, grabbing hold of Guan Shan's fist. The muscles in his arm bulged as if about to tear his clothes.
His voice turned as icy as a demon in hell as he said word by word, "Since you seek your own death, don't blame me for being merciless."
With a stern shout, Sheng Hongye's left fist struck towards Guan Shan's face.
Guan Shan dodged to the side and delivered a knee strike towards Sheng Hongye's abdomen, loudly cursing, "It's you who's seeking death. Let me tell you the truth: all the brothers in Lizhou thought you were dead. So, you must die. Only when you're dead can I become their leader."
"So, you're afraid of me going to Lizhou. Guan Shan, with just you, can you stop me?"
Sheng Hongye sneered, and his fist suddenly changed direction, striking Guan Shan's knee bone.
Both of them moved as fast as lightning, and Guan Shan's face turned pale.
He couldn't change his move again; it was already too late.
A crisp cracking sound echoed as his right leg instantly went limp like a noodle.
Guan Shan looked at his own leg in shock. Before he could react, Sheng Hongye had already kicked him out of the hospital room.
Su Ling couldn't help but break out in a cold sweat. She didn't expect Guan Shan to act so quickly. If Sheng Hongye hadn't returned in time, the consequences would have been unthinkable.
Liu Yu and Geng Hao were also wide-eyed, taking a moment to recover from the shock.
Outside the door, a muffled groan was heard, followed by the sound of dragging. After a while, everything returned to calm.
It took a long time for Su Ling to catch her breath. It seemed she hadn't misjudged Guan Shan's intentions.
At this moment, the sound of high heels echoed.
Li Xueying entered the room while holding Gu Kai Xuan. Her gaze was unkind as she looked at Su Ling, as if she wanted to devour her alive.
