Chapter 31: Chapter 31 – A World Without Chains
Kael gasped as his eyes fluttered open. He was alive.
But… where?
He lay on his back, staring up at a sky unlike any he had ever seen. It was vast and endless, painted in hues of gold and deep blue, twin suns glowing overhead. The air was warm, carrying the distant scent of something familiar—home.
Kael pushed himself up, his fingers digging into the soft grass beneath him. He was no longer in the void, no longer at the edge of existence. Instead, he stood in a world that felt… untouched. New.
A world without gods.
A world without a Well of Eternity dictating fate.
A world free.
But if he was here, then…
"Kael."
He turned sharply, his heart pounding.
Standing a few feet away, Lyra watched him with cautious hope. Her silver eyes gleamed beneath the twin suns, her expression unreadable. She was real, just as alive as he was.
"You made it," she whispered.
Kael exhaled in relief, his shoulders sagging. "We made it."
They stood there in silence, taking in the new world around them. There were no echoes of the past, no remnants of the old universe. The battle with Sylas, the Well of Eternity, the cosmic war… all of it was gone. And yet, Kael remembered everything.
The question burned in his mind. "Did we… create this?"
Lyra shook her head. "No. We simply let the universe create itself. Without interference. Without gods pulling the strings."
Kael clenched his fists. He had spent lifetimes chasing power, believing strength was the answer. But in the end, the greatest power he had was the ability to choose—and he had chosen to let go.
And yet…
A thought struck him. "What about Sylas?"
Lyra's gaze darkened. "I don't know. If he survived, he's somewhere in this world too. But without the Well, without his power… he's no longer a god."
Kael nodded slowly. If Sylas had made it through, then their battle wasn't over. But this time, they were just men, not cosmic forces. And that made all the difference.
Lyra smiled slightly. "So, what now?"
Kael looked up at the vast sky, at the endless world before them.
"We start over."
He turned to her, his expression steady. "No gods. No destiny. Just us. And whatever future we decide to build."
For the first time in lifetimes, Kael felt something he thought he had lost forever.
Hope.
