Chapter 29: Chapter 29 – The Edge of Eternity
Kael stood on the threshold of existence itself. Before him, the Well of Eternity pulsed like a dying star, its light flickering, struggling against the void that Sylas had unleashed. The cosmic storm raged around them fragments of time, echoes of lost worlds, and shattered realities all twisting into a chaotic vortex.
Sylas Kaine hovered above the broken expanse, his body a conduit of entropy, the embodiment of the reset he sought. His once-human form had become something more—his silver hair flowing like liquid stardust, his piercing gaze holding the weight of infinite destruction.
"You still don't see it, Kael," Sylas said, his voice reverberating across dimensions. "This universe is broken. No matter how much power you wield, you cannot change that truth. But I can rebuild it."
Kael tightened his grip on Eonblade, the sword forged from the very essence of existence itself. His every breath felt heavier now, the weight of his decisions pressing down on him. He had spent lifetimes chasing power, seeking vengeance, grasping for control. But now, standing here at the edge of everything, he finally understood—this was never about winning. It was about choosing.
He looked at Lyra, who stood behind him, her ethereal eyes filled with a mixture of hope and sorrow. She had seen this moment in her visions, had known all along that Kael would have to make an impossible choice. Yet she had chosen to stand beside him, despite knowing that the price might be everything.
"This universe doesn't need a god," Kael said, his voice steady, his resolve unshaken. "It needs a chance."
Sylas narrowed his eyes. "Then you are a fool."
With a flick of his wrist, Sylas unleashed a wave of pure entropy, a force that could erase even time itself. Kael lunged forward, meeting the attack head-on. The clash of their powers sent shockwaves across the cosmic battlefield, ripping apart the fabric of reality.
Kael pushed beyond his limits, channeling the full might of the Well. He could feel it burning through him, reshaping him into something beyond mortal comprehension. He could erase Sylas, end this battle in an instant but that would only prove Sylas right. Power wasn't the answer.
The Well of Eternity pulsed behind them, waiting, watching.
And then, Kael made his choice.
With one final swing of Eonblade, he didn't strike Sylas he struck the Well.
The cosmic forge trembled. The entire universe shuddered.
A blinding explosion of light and darkness erupted, swallowing everything in its wake.
And then, silence.
Everything went still.
