Reborn As Sokka: Awakening Of the wolf's mind

Chapter 15: 15. Canon

-I told you this wasn't the right way.

-And I told you I didn't know the way!

-I showed you the right way.

-Shut up, dummy.

In a small canoe sat two young siblings: Sokka and Katara, One year older than last year, with Fifteen and fourteen years old.

Today's argument was because Sokka had taken his sister fishing. He had been trying for a week until she finally agreed.

I'd been trying to get the brat Katara to come sailing with me so fate could do its job and lead us to Aang. That's why I'd been lying down the entire way, letting the current guide the inexperienced Katara.

Though honestly, I had identified the massive iceberg holding the bald monk about a month ago.

While practicing more chi skills, I learned to sense the chi of living beings. If I close my eyes, I can imagine a map of the area and identify the life energy of people or animals. And honestly, nothing has more chi than the damn Avatar.

I only brought Katara so fate would kick in... or at least for some good luck.

And now that Katara had decided to ignore me and tried to catch a fish with her waterbending, she failed miserably, spilling water over my head. Or almost did-thanks to my danger sense, I dodged it.

-You know, at this point I thought you'd at least be able to handle a water pouch with your magic water.- I mocked to provoke her.

-It's not magic water! It's waterbending, the ancient art of our tribe. Even you have it, idiot!

-Hey, at least I don't annoy anyone with my magic water.

-Idiot,- she muttered.

While she was thinking of her next insult, we were pulled into a fast current-the same one from the original series.

-Well, you got us into this. Now get us out.- I said calmly.

She grabbed the paddle in a rush, fighting the current to steer us out.

Her efforts were in vain. When I sensed and saw the giant iceberg where Aang was, I steered us into a small glacier, breaking the canoe.

-Nice turn, Katara.

-Shut up,- she snapped.

-I knew this would happen. If you'd come with me earlier, none of this would've happened. Women in charge: guaranteed trouble.- I said, unable to hide my half-smile.

She glared at me and began to yell:

-You are the most sexist person I know! You know I do almost as much as you! I even do your laundry! Have you ever smelled your socks?!

Her complaints were accompanied by wild hand gestures, unintentionally striking the iceberg behind her.

-You know, if you keep doing that, you might not have to worry about chores ever again.

-What?

Her face showed anger and confusion, but it shifted when I pointed behind her.

She turned in panic as the large chunk of ice cracked with a loud boom.

Using my waterbending, I held back the waves and stabilized the small chunk of ice we were standing on.

-Well, that was cool.

-Seriously? I did that?- Katara asked, both incredulous and excited.

-Yeah. You went from weird to lunatic, Katara.

She frowned, ready to reply, but a blue glow in the water interrupted her.

The smaller, glowing iceberg surfaced slowly, putting on a good show. The silhouettes of Appa and Aang glowed clearly.

When it finally settled in the sea, Katara approached it, mesmerized.

-He's alive. We have to help him,- she said as his eyes opened.

She grabbed my signature Southern Water Tribe hammer and approached the iceberg, smashing it when she got close.

Three strikes were enough to crack it.

A strong gust of cold air burst out. I stood firm, letting it wash over me, daring it to knock me down-but it didn't.

I wish I could say the same for Katara. She barely lasted a few seconds before collapsing onto my foot.

As the iceberg's pressure released, it split in half, sending a massive blue beam into the sky, revealing our position to anyone who saw it.

Atop the cracked iceberg stood the silhouette of the young monk with glowing tattoos and eyes.

I stared, waiting for something different, but no-he fainted, just like in the show.

Katara rushed forward, catching him before he hit the ground.

-Sokka, we have to help him.

She looked at me with concern for the bald kid.

I stared for a few seconds, analyzing his condition. Purple lips and fingers, breathing shallow but steady.

Katara still stared at me anxiously. I shrugged and gave her my coat to warm him up.

She looked at me with surprise and gratitude.

-Hey, I'm not a monster. Besides, he's already waking up.

-Hey...- Aang said, looking at Katara. -Wanna go penguin sledding with me?

At the sudden and enthusiastic question, Katara blinked and agreed, not fully grasping the situation.

I watched him hop around and ramble with energy no one cryo-frozen for 100 years should have.

So I acted skeptical.

-Who are you? Are you from the Fire Navy?- I said, pointing my spear at him and pulling Katara back.

-Fire Navy?- he tilted his head. -Of course not! Hahaha.

Before I could answer, a strange sound came from the iceberg, catching Aang's attention. He rushed over.

-This is Appa, my flying bison.

He pointed at the six-legged beast who lazily licked him.

-Yeah, and this is Katara, my flying sister.

God, I've been dying to say that line.

As if fate approved, the massive bison inhaled and sneezed a big wad of green snot. It hit the original full-on, but thanks to my enhanced luck, it only grazed my shoulder.

-That was disgusting. We need to move. That light probably already alerted the Fire Navy.

-Fire Navy?- the bald monk asked.

-Oh come on, he's probably a Fire Navy spy,- Katara said sarcastically.

I narrowed my eyes at her. Sarcasm is my thing, and she dares copy me? But she just stuck her tongue out in annoyance.

-We don't know how long he was in that iceberg, so anything's possible.

When Katara suggested he might be the Avatar, the monk sneezed a big gust of air, revealing he was an airbender.

Katara was so shocked and excited she forgot to follow up on the Avatar topic and quickly switched gears.

-Oh no, our canoe got destroyed.

-No worries. Appa can take us.

-Your flying bison? Yeah, right.

-Yeah, come on, hop on,- the energetic kid jumped using airbending, followed by Katara who struggled a bit, and I just leapt straight onto Appa's saddle.

-Yeah, I bet he doesn't even fly. -Use meta knowledge on small stuff to win bets? Of course. Been waiting for this for years.

-You'll see,- said Aang. -Appa, yip yip!

The massive bison jumped into the sea, splashing water.

-Guess he's still tired,- Aang said, smiling at Katara.

After a few awkward seconds, she asked:

-Why are you smiling at me like that?

-Oh, was I smiling?- he replied. Katara gave him a polite smile back.

Wow, Aang... I gotta give it to you. Just met her and you're already in the friend zone. I guess you had that quality girls loved... like a little brother. Honestly, I'd feel bad for you, but you're flirting with my sister right in front of me, so no chance.

After some time in the water, a curious Katara asked Aang if he knew about the Avatar's whereabouts. Since he was an airbender, he should know. Aang awkwardly claimed to know people who knew the Avatar, but not personally.

As for me, I looked at the massive iceberg and used waterbending to pull it all the way to the village.

-Why did you bring that, Sokka?- Katara asked.

-Because literally a kid and a non-flying bison were inside it,- I said, lifting it with my waterbending.

-This is the Southern Water Tribe?

-Yup, best tribe to live in.

-If you say so,- Katara replied skeptically.

-I heard stories about the tribe, but none like this. And those walls are huge.

I couldn't help but smirk smugly.

-Of course, this isn't the same tribe they told you about.

At my words, the young monk looked a bit confused but ignored it and went to talk to Katara.

Once we entered, Gran-Gran gave us a curious look. While Katara walked away, the old woman approached me and asked:

-Who is this boy, Sokka?

"Hm?" I looked at her and smiled.

-Just some guy who was stuck in an iceberg. We helped him, and he tried to impress Katara by saying his bison could fly... totally untrue. Also, Gran-Gran, you should be inside. I'd worry you might catch a cold now.

She smiled.

-Alright, alright, Sokka. I may be old, but no need to worry about me,- then she gave me a serious look as she glanced at Aang. -Could you keep an eye on him and see who he really is? Katara is still a girl and might be deceived.

-Of course, but for now, I need to drop off this giant chunk of ice.

She smiled and let me go. This thing was heavy. I was getting tired, but my waterbending energy was still stable.

Unsealing a massive wall to enter the spiritual oasis, my plan was to merge the iceberg's residual spiritual energy with the oasis', making this place-ironically-more spiritual. Also, it gave a nice aesthetic touch.

I exited, rebuilding the wall as I headed to change clothes, still damp thanks to Katara. I wasn't about to waste energy drying them or risk my little sister freezing me by accident.

Aang was playing with the younger kids, showing off Appa and his airbending. But Katara wasn't there, so I headed to Gran-Gran's house to change-I had some spare clothes there.

Besides, I had to give her the information she asked for.
