Reborn as Richard Castle in Criminal Minds

Chapter 263: Chapter 263: Precautions

As we all know, civilian drones are typically controlled by handheld remote devices, which limits their operational range to the user's line of sight. This was evident when Castle used a drone in Brazil to watch the ambush on Hobbs; the drone's range was limited by the distance from Castle's hotel. Fortunately, Mario, one of Hernan's men, set up the ambush close enough to the hotel, and Castle and the chubby kid were staying on a high floor with an unobstructed view. This allowed the chubby kid to use his video game flight skills to keep the modified drone tracking Hobbs in real time, providing Castle and the chubby kid with a front-row seat to the action.

However, the subsequent car chase following the assault on the police station exposed the limitations of Castle's simply modified drone. Despite improving the propeller speed and battery capacity, the handheld remote still restricted the drone's effective range.

This time, with the advanced mechanical skills from Tony Stark in the Marvel world and full knowledge of drone manufacturing, Castle decided to go big. He planned to create a central control system for his drone, similar to the US military's 'Global Hawk' UAV. All he needed were some precise gyroscopes and a GPS control system.

In fact, civilian GPS accuracy was sufficient for his needs. Many believe GPS accuracy ranges from ten to a hundred meters, but this is a misconception. The US intentionally imposes these inaccuracies on non-US users. Terrorists have previously used Google Maps to successfully launch homemade cruise missiles at US military camps by understanding this trick and upgrading their missile accuracy.

Aware of these nuances, Castle didn't need extreme precision but still wanted the best control system for the chubby kid to operate the drone effectively. Thus, he decided to build a control center akin to the 'Global Hawk's' setup. The materials and components he ordered from Zeus two days ago were primarily for this purpose.

After completing the drone's main framework, Castle immediately began working on the central control station. To focus on this task, he called Alexis to explain he might not return home tonight or tomorrow due to important work.

Alexis, accustomed to her father's unpredictable schedule, only reminded him to stay safe and didn't press for details.

With family matters settled, Castle immersed himself in creating the control station. This was where Tony Stark's mechanical proficiency truly shined. Tony wasn't just any craftsman; he built a miniaturized Arc Reactor and the Mark I suit in a cave. Although the system didn't provide Castle with the Arc Reactor or Iron Man suit designs, it retained everything else.

That night, Castle fully realized the extent of Tony's skills. Ideas and concepts flowed into his mind, making the control station construction seamless. This drone, originally designed by Stark Industries for the US military, had its weaponry removed, but its structure and control system were identical. Building the central control station was thus straightforward for Castle, equipped with Tony's knowledge.

To ensure the drone's successful operation in emergencies, Castle secretly hacked into a US military satellite, leaving a backdoor in case the civilian GPS failed. This task, given his top-notch skills, took little effort.

As dawn broke, Castle stretched and admired his work: a control station resembling that of the 'Global Hawk' UAV. The station featured a central joystick for the right hand and a throttle for the left, much like an actual aircraft cockpit. The only difference was the three LCD screens arranged in a triangular formation.

Satisfied with his overnight achievement, Castle marveled at Tony Stark's skills now coursing through him. He could now proudly call himself a master craftsman.

After savoring his success, Castle felt his hunger. He hadn't eaten since noon the previous day, and his enhanced body still required nutrition. He packed the control station into his space, ensuring nothing was left behind, and headed out to find food, planning to finish the drone assembly later that day.

Unbeknownst to Castle, shortly after he left, two mysterious figures snuck into his warehouse. After a thorough search, they left puzzled, having found nothing suspicious.

Castle, meanwhile, was enjoying a feast at KFC, watching the intruders via a live feed on his phone. He had anticipated Vincent Adler's interest in his activities and had fortified the warehouse with advanced Stark Industries security tech, far beyond this world's capabilities. As the intruders entered, they were immediately detected by Castle's hidden cameras and security system.

Amused, Castle watched the intruders on his phone, a hamburger in his mouth. He had expected Vincent to be unwilling to let things go and had prepared accordingly. Every time he left the warehouse, he stored all his creations, whether complete or not, in his personal space, leaving nothing for Vincent's men to find.
