Reborn As Noble

Chapter 639: Promises and Pretense ( 639 )

Inside the Beastkin King's private meeting room.

Garius stood tall at the entrance, waiting for the signal. The heavy wooden door creaked open, and a calm voice from within said,

"You may enter."

He stepped inside with practiced poise. Already seated inside were King Lioness, stoic and sharp in appearance, and Queen Mylezra, radiant in her eternal elven beauty, graceful and unnaturally youthful as always.

"Hmm?" Garius looked around briefly. "Where's Veldrac?"

King Lioness chuckled. "Still busy with Gumarak. He's not done 'disciplining' him."

Garius sighed deeply. "Let him enjoy it then." He stepped aside slightly, motioning behind him. "Now then… this is my youngest son."

Javier stepped forward, stiff as a board, back straight, trying his best to look dignified. He was used to battlefields, sabotage, puppet warfare, and sweet maid kisses—not being paraded like a product in royal court.

King Lioness smirked. "So this is the boy who shook Gilikan Town and dragged Gumarak in like a sack of potatoes."

But the one who leaned forward with playful interest was Queen Mylezra.

Her long fingers delicately cradled her cheek as she smiled with that teasing spark in her gaze.

"My, my… he's quite handsome. What a surprise~" Her eyes narrowed with curiosity. "I'm single, boy. How about taking me as your first bride~?"

Javier choked.

"E-Eh?!"

Garius nearly tripped.

"Mylezra!"

She leaned further, ignoring Garius entirely. "If you take me as your bride, then Garius here will officially become my father-in-law~ Isn't that right, Garius?"

Garius turned pale. "You're joking again—aren't you?!"

"No," Mylezra said with a cool pout. "It's because you kept evading me all these years, Garius. Don't act like you forgot."

King Lioness gave a knowing sigh, crossing his arms.

"You promised, didn't you? That when your youngest son is born, you'll marry me. Francesca already knew. And yet… you kept dodging." Mylezra's eyes sharpened. "You married Eridith before me. A dragon, of all things. Hmph. And she's pregnant now, right? So lucky~"

Garius sweat hard. His eyes twitched.

Javier slowly took a step back.

And then came the real strike.

"Well then, boy," Mylezra smiled with playful challenge, "Since your father doesn't want me, how about you? I'm beautiful… I'm loyal…"

Garius's forehead glistened with sweat. He straightened his back, trying to remain composed, but the corners of his mouth twitched as he looked away from Mylezra's piercing gaze.

"Ahem… C-Can we discuss this after the mission?" he said, voice low but clearly flustered. "There are more urgent matters to—"

"No~" Mylezra cut him off smoothly, her expression turning pointed. "I've waited long enough, Garius. Years. Decades. You keep pushing this back—and let's not forget, you made more than one promise."

Garius winced.

Mylezra leaned back in her chair, voice soft but firm. "Not just to me, Garius. Don't act like I forgot about the other one you promised."

King Lioness tried to look at the ceiling, as if he wanted no part of what was about to unfold.

"You also promised that girl," Mylezra continued, now folding her arms. "That demon girl—the current Duke of the Demon Army. Hmm… what was her name again~?"

"Ah… Mylezra… that's…" Garius scratched his neck, eyes darting away. "She was still a child back then. I didn't expect her to—"

Mylezra's expression sharpened. "Don't you dare try to play dumb. You knew who she was. And now she's grown into a terrifying beauty with half the demon army kneeling at her feet." She narrowed her eyes. "You think she forgot that promise? Hmph. She still calls herself 'the unclaimed bride of Armand'."

Mylezra smiled sweetly—too sweetly.

"Now then, Garius. Since you're clearly too busy, I've decided."

She looked straight into Javier's eyes and declared with a gentle but unshakable tone:

"I'm going to personally visit Francesca after this. She agreed with the promise, didn't she? So I'll speak to her directly and settle this."

Garius's eyes widened. "Wait! Mylezra—"

"And I'm serious, Garius."

Her voice was now lower. Deadly.

"If you don't keep your word this time… then I'm taking your son as my bridegroom. I will become part of Armand's household, one way or another."

She turned her gaze to Javier again, smiling like a queen who'd already claimed victory.

"So what do you say, handsome boy? Ready to become the king of elves~?"

"Errr… I already have Liana… I'm sorry, Your Highness." Javier replied carefully, rubbing the back of his neck.

"Ah… my niece. Good choice~" Mylezra said without missing a beat, flashing a sly smile.

"…Huh?" Javier blinked. "Your… niece?"

Mylezra giggled, waving a finger playfully. "Yes~ You didn't know?"

"She never told me!!" Javier blurted out, genuinely shocked.

"Oh my~ how adorable," she chuckled. "Yes, Liana is my niece. Her mother is my younger sister."

Javier's jaw dropped.

So Liana's from royal elven bloodline this whole time… and never mentioned it once!?

Mylezra leaned forward, enjoying his flustered reaction. "And Gloria… she's also my niece."

"EHHHHHH!?" Javier practically fell off his seat. "Gloria too!?"

"My cousin married a human a long time ago," Mylezra explained with a graceful wave of her hand. "Gloria was born from that union. She's a half-elf, yes—but still carries noble elven blood. That refined aura of hers didn't come from just anywhere, you know."

Those two, never said a word!! Not even a hint!! And here I was thinking I was the noble one in the relationship!

"So, boy~ I'm a very good option, no?" Mylezra teased gently, her eyes locked playfully onto Garius. "Not only do you get Liana and Gloria, but you'll have me as well~"

Javier stammered helplessly, "B-but… but…"

Mylezra tilted her head slightly, smiling elegantly. "Ah~ worried Liana might get upset? Don't worry—I'm her aunt, after all. She wouldn't dare object."

"B-but…" Javier's voice faded weakly as he desperately looked toward Garius.

Garius wiped the sweat from his brow and sighed heavily. "Fine… Just leave my son out of this, Mylezra."

"Oh?" Mylezra's face instantly brightened, beaming excitedly. "Finally! You agree, Garius?"

He nodded weakly, as though already regretting it.

Mylezra turned her satisfied gaze back to Javier, her smile soft but sly. "You won't mind if I become your stepmother, right~?"

"Err… err…" Javier's voice cracked, utterly speechless.

Mylezra gracefully placed a finger to her lips, her serene smile becoming suddenly dangerous.

"Then how about this. I'll give you two options, boy~"

She leaned closer, her voice low and rich, brimming with amusement.

"Do you prefer me as your wife… or as your stepmother? I'm open to both~"

Javier's face drained of all color.

Garius quietly looked away, pretending he saw nothing.
