Reborn as Humanity’s Emperor Across the Multiverse

Chapter 392: Chapter 392: The Heavenly Plane - Battle and the "Decorative" Angels (Bonus Chapter 2)

Ryan led the charge, diving into the portal, his massive frame vanishing from sight. Following him were 300 Honor Guard Paladins, Serene, a thousand Dark Angels led by Galen Clovis, and units from the Heresy Tribunal, including Athena, Greek demigods, and Grey Knights.

Meanwhile, the auxiliary troops, clones, and terminators remained tasked with post-war reconstruction and law enforcement in Vienna.

Given that the Gate of Hell was protected by intense flames and mechanisms designed to erode ordinary minds, it stood to reason that the Gate of Heaven would have similar defenses.

To ensure safety, Ryan left his company guards, champions, and command squads stationed in the physical universe of "13" to oversee coordination efforts while the main forces invaded Heaven.

On the other side of the portal, Ryan, still helmetless, was greeted by a blinding flash of white light as he entered the Heavenly Plane.

Unlike those who passed through the Gate of Hell and endured mental assaults, Ryan experienced no such torment. Standing firmly, he surveyed his surroundings.

The realm resembled Earth from the physical universe. Lush mountains, clear skies, radiant sunlight, and a pleasant breeze all painted a serene picture. In the distance, tranquil forests, vast plains, and medieval-style castles and towns came into view.

The plane was also alive with creatures. Livestock grazed lazily, birds soared overhead, and insects flitted through flowers and trees. Among these were the angels described in the "13 Bible."

Based on main-universe texts, if entities such as God, demons, and angels truly existed, angels—God's weapons and humanity's protectors—were likely grotesque and fearsome in appearance.

For example, the seraphim were described as having four faces (human, ox, eagle, and lion), four pairs of interconnected wings, and human hands beneath these wings. Their straight legs ended in cloven hooves.

Such appearances, if revealed to ordinary humans, would likely shatter minds and induce madness. In contrast, demons in the main universe were visually alluring, designed to deceive and seduce. Angels, however, had no such need.

In the "13" universe, angels lacked the horrifying forms that could drive mortals to insanity. A few kilometers from Ryan, in a garden, a group of angels played and frolicked.

These angels mirrored the depictions from main-universe entertainment, each a vision of beauty and elegance, their physiques proportionate and adorned with pristine white wings. However, their wings were notably smaller than those of St. Gillian.

Unaware of the portal's activation or Ryan's presence, these angels remained at ease. In their minds, no living being could unlock the "Gate of Heaven." Even if someone succeeded, crossing the gate with a mortal body would invoke a soul corrosion ten or even a hundred times more potent than the Gate of Hell. Any wavering of will would result in immolation, leaving no trace of existence.

Ryan, however, was unaffected by such corrosion. As a Primarch sharing bloodlines with Samuel Young, his will was impervious even to dark gods, let alone "God's" soul attacks.

Shortly after Ryan's arrival, Serene, Athena, Galen, and others crossed the portal into the Heavenly Plane. They, too, noticed the angels in the distant garden.

Serene, using her electronic eyes, observed the angels' movements and remarked, "The Inferno canto of The Divine Comedy detailed Hell, but descriptions of Heaven are virtually non-existent. Judging by its vastness, the only way to draw God out is to split up and act as bait."

Ryan shook his head and replied, "Luring God is plausible, but splitting our forces is not."

He turned to Galen and issued orders: "Clovis, eliminate these angels and capture one for interrogation. The rest of the company will maintain vigilance and expand the perimeter.

"Athena, station your demigods around the portal and secure our foothold while safeguarding the company's rear. All Grey Knights are to support the company's maneuvers."

"Yes, Father," Galen responded.

Leading the second assault platoon of 200 seasoned and new soldiers, Galen charged toward the garden. The remaining platoons expanded their formations forward in a fan shape, with Grey Knights providing support.

Athena and her 300 Greek demigods spread out around the portal, fortifying their rear.

Serene, her suggestion denied, nodded in agreement. She retrieved a Pure Flower from her tactical suit's pouch and began planting it. Securing the Heavenly Plane as a resource for the Human Empire was paramount, aiding the Imperial Church's growth.

Serene speculated that the Emperor might exploit Heaven and Hell to create a dimension akin to the Warp. Without nourishment, the Chaos Gods and demons would lose their foothold.

Ryan refrained from advancing further, awaiting the emergence of God or Heaven's higher forces. Judging by the Apocalyptic Knights who ravaged frontier towns, only Ryan and Athena could reliably defeat them in single combat. Others required combined efforts to subdue such threats.

This cautious approach reflected his growing restraint, learned through observing his brother Guilliman. Despite lacking martial prowess, Guilliman's efficient governance and resource output set a benchmark even Ryan begrudgingly respected.

In the garden, the Dark Angels struck. With sniper rifles calibrated to 1.0-caliber explosive rounds blessed by Hera, they annihilated the angels in seconds. A crimson mist enveloped the area, their delicate forms proving no match for the Empire's armament.

One angel, deliberately spared, stood in shock, her comrades reduced to fragments. This angel, created solely for decorative purposes, was ill-equipped for combat. Her eternal existence had made her oblivious to threats, her sole purpose being to beautify Heaven and entertain arriving souls.

She instinctively tried to scream, but four veterans reached her before she could react. One clamped a hand over her head, forcing her to the ground, and growled, "Speak, alien. Tell us everything you know."

The angel, overwhelmed, could only gape in confusion.

Suddenly, the skies darkened. Thunder rumbled, and lightning struck near the portal. God's attention had been drawn.

Athena dismissed the spectacle, raising her spear and releasing a golden energy wave that dissipated the storm. The veterans, seeing no further use for the captive angel, swiftly killed her, rejoining their unit.

The lines of the Dark Angels, Greek demigods, and Grey Knights closed in, bracing for Heaven's counterattack. Soon, swarms of battle angels filled their visual scanners—muscular, armored warriors wielding ornate weapons.

The Empire's forces did not wait for close combat. Targeting the approaching host, they unleashed a barrage of explosive rounds, plasma cannons, and metallic hydrogen missiles.

The resulting devastation stained the skies crimson. Micro-suns from detonating missiles incinerated blood mists, ensuring Heaven's forces failed to breach their lines.

Ryan, however, paid little attention to the carnage. His focus shifted upward.

A silver flash descended.

Clang!

The metallic scream of colliding weapons echoed as Ryan, with his Lion's Greatsword in a single hand, blocked a surprise attack from another angel.
