Reborn as a Tough Army Wife

Chapter 353: Competing for Attention

Li Aihua led her to Fang Pingying's room, where because of Ruirui's little accident, the nanny Sister-in-law Zhou and Fang Pingying were changing the little guy's pants. The kid was being difficult and crying loudly.

Li Aihua pushed the door open and said to Fang Pingying, "Pingying, your mother-in-law is here."

Fang Pingying paused in the midst of changing the little guy's pants. She hadn't expected Zhou Yunmei to suddenly arrive.

But since she had come, Fang Pingying couldn't just rush her out immediately. She smiled and looked up at Zhou Yunmei, calling out, "Mom, you're here."

As soon as Zhou Yunmei entered the room, she didn't even glance at Fang Pingying; her eyes were fixed on her eldest grandson.

Seeing her grandson crying so hard, her heart ached terribly. She immediately went over, wanting to pick up Ruirui and, with dissatisfaction, chided Fang Pingying, "What are you doing tormenting him like this? Didn't you see my grandson crying?"

Sister-in-law Zhou nodded at Zhou Yunmei and said with a smile, "We're just changing the child's pants. It's fine for a kid to cry a bit."

"Who are you to say that it's fine for a kid to cry a bit?" Zhou Yunmei retorted, her face immediately darkening as she pulled Sister-in-law Zhou aside and took Ruirui from her hands, "Move aside, I'll do it."

She picked up Ruirui and, not minding the mess on the child, kissed him on the face, "Oh, my dear chubby grandson, grandma has been thinking about you."

It was Ruirui's first time seeing Zhou Yunmei, and he couldn't avoid feeling a bit of stranger anxiety and cried even harder when he saw her.

Zhou Yunmei's face twitched with distress, as she frantically asked, "What's wrong, what's wrong, why are you crying upon seeing grandma?"

Fang Pingying rolled her eyes at Zhou Yunmei, thinking that she was just here to make a mess. If it weren't for her sudden interference, Ruirui's pants would have been changed long ago, and there would have been no need for all this fuss.

Upon seeing this, Luo Zhiyong took Ruirui and handed him to Fang Pingying, then he picked up Yaoyao with one hand and pushed Zhou Yunmei towards the door with the other, "Mom, don't make a fuss, please go out and sit for a while. Let them finish changing the child's pants, otherwise, the baby might catch a cold."

Li Aihua also looked at Zhou Yunmei with a half-mocking smile and sarcastically said, "Yeah, you're fussing and if your eldest grandson catches a cold, it would be terrible."

"Alright then." When it came to her eldest grandson, Zhou Yunmei was willing to compromise on anything. She ignored Li Aihua's sarcasm and followed Luo Zhiyong's suggestion to head out, turning back as she went to urge, "Hurry up."

After Zhou Yunmei left, Li Aihua and Fang Pingying quickly changed the little guy's pants and then had Fang Pingying feed him.

Li Aihua glanced outside the door and whispered to Fang Pingying, "Your mother-in-law, as soon as she comes in, it's 'eldest grandson' this and 'eldest grandson' that. I was holding Yaoyao right in front of her, and she didn't even ask."

"Let her be, she's always been like that," Fang Pingying, long aware of Zhou Yunmei's behavior, said unconcernedly. "Otherwise, those incidents during the New Year's at home wouldn't have happened. She thought I was expecting a girl and even wanted me to terminate the pregnancy."

Li Aihua nodded and whispered back, "This old lady is really troublesome; you have to stand your ground."

Zhou Yunmei and Luo Zhiyong went to the living room outside, and Luo Zhiyong called her to sit down on the sofa.

Zhou Yunmei glanced inside the house and pointed to Sister-in-law Zhou somewhat displeasedly, "Who is that woman with Pingying? It seems like she doesn't care about my family's eldest grandson at all, even saying it's no big deal if a child cries a bit. Apparently, it's not her family's problem, so she doesn't care."

"Mom, how come you always find fault with people?" Luo Zhiyong was really helpless with Zhou Yunmei, and he quietly explained to her, "The woman just now is the nanny from my mother-in-law's house. She's a very good person. Normally, when my mother-in-law is at work, she helps Pingying take care of the kids. We owe her a lot these past days; otherwise, we wouldn't have been able to manage."

"Your mother-in-law even hired a nanny?" Zhou Yunmei was surprised with her eyes wide open; she hadn't expected Li Aihua's household to be so wealthy.

Luo Zhiyong nodded and said softly, "Yeah, my mother and father-in-law are busy with their jobs, the house needs someone to take care of it."

"In the era of landlords, your mother-in-law's family would definitely have been considered of a class, the kind that would get dragged out to be criticized." Zhou Yunmei surely had the mentality of a sour grapes attitude.

Luo Zhiyong, knowing Zhou Yunmei's temperament, didn't want to argue with her and just lowered his voice, "Mom, don't talk nonsense."

Zhou Yunmei pouted but didn't say anything more.

She sat on the sofa and looked around the room; besides them, there were no others, and suddenly remembering something, she asked Luo Zhiyong, "Besides Pingying, does your mother-in-law have other children?"

Luo Zhiyong felt Zhou Yunmei seemed to be scheming something, and with a frown, he said, "Why are you asking so many questions?"

Zhou Yunmei chuckled and whispered in Luo Zhiyong's ear, "If Pingying is the only daughter, then our family's eldest grandson will have good days ahead of him. Her grandma and grandpa have such a big house and are so wealthy, it will all belong to him in the future..."

Luo Zhiyong quickly stopped her from continuing and complained with a frown, "Mom, can't you think of something good? Why are you always thinking about these things? If Pingying and my mother-in-law hear this, they'll think we Luo Family people are hopeless, even coveting the little things in my mother-in-law's house."

"It's not like I said it to others, I'm just talking to you in private." Zhou Yunmei also felt it was inappropriate to talk about this here, muttered a few words, and then turned her thoughts back to Ruirui who she saw earlier, saying cheerfully, "That's really nice, my eldest grandson looks really good."

Luo Zhiyong looked at Yaoyao in his hands, kissed her on the forehead, and then looked at Zhou Yunmei very displeasedly, "Mom, don't keep saying 'eldest grandson, eldest grandson'; granddaughters are just as good as grandsons. If you keep talking like this, it makes people unhappy."

"I didn't say I don't like granddaughters; I like them just the same." Zhou Yunmei felt somewhat awkward and finally paid attention to Yaoyao, taking her from Luo Zhiyong's hands, and while smiling, she said, "Come, let grandma hold you. Your name is Yaoyao, right?"

"Yes, her brother's name is Ruirui, and her sister's name is Yaoyao."

"Good, grandma will hold our little Yaoyao." Zhou Yunmei held Yaoyao, took a look at her, and laughed, "These two kids really do look good, just like you when you were little. But I've heard people say twins look exactly alike, and Yaoyao and Ruirui don't look very similar."

"Of course, a boy and a girl won't look the same." Luo Zhiyong reached out to playfully poke his daughter, and with a gentle smile, he said, "Everyone says Yaoyao looks like me, and Ruirui looks like Pingying."

Upon hearing this, Zhou Yunmei was unhappy, "Nonsense, I think they both look like you."

As soon as Zhou Yunmei finished speaking, Li Aihua and Fang Pingying happened to come out from inside the house.

Seeing Zhou Yunmei being so argumentative, Li Aihua decided to purposely argue back, with a half-smiling tone, "Is that so? To me, it seems like Yaorui resembles our Pingying more when she was young." (To be continued.
