Chapter 323: Reaping What One Sows (Second Update)
Looking at each other inside Zhou Yunmei's hospital room, they were at a loss.
In their view, this was a trivial matter, but Luo Zhiyong had surprisingly gone so far as to talk about cutting off ties, even mentioning that it could affect his job in the military.
Luo Dashan had always opposed their actions, and after hearing Luo Zhiyong's words, he glared at Zhou Yunmei and said, "This must be another one of your bright ideas, how can you always come up with such trouble?"
"This..." Zhou Yunmei's face paled from Luo Zhiyong's words. Regardless, she had never intended to mess with Luo Zhiyong's job.
Luo Dashan glared at her and Luo Zhiming, cursing, "I'm telling you, if you really mess up Zhiyong's job because of this, I'll cut ties with you too, and you and your son can fend for yourselves from now on."
Seeing Luo Dashan say the same, Zhou Yunmei was even more terrified. She hurriedly tried to backpedal, "Zhiming, why don't we discuss this matter again?"
"There's nothing to discuss, this concerns the rest of my life." Luo Zhiming was finally looking at a chance to make a fortune, and he wouldn't stop for Luo Zhiyong's sake. He looked pitifully at Luo Dashan and said,
"Mom and Dad, I know you're worried about big brother's job in the military. Don't you care about how I'll live my life after this? I am your son, too."
"You..." Luo Dashan truly didn't know whose side to take now, and could only point at Zhou Yunmei and curse, "Look at the mess you've made."
Left with no choice, Zhou Yunmei tentatively approached Luo Zhiming, "Zhiming, listen to your mother..."
Luo Zhiming waved his hand impatiently, "Mom, enough. If you're going to side with big brother and won't let me ask the boss for this compensation, I'm done with you too."
"You..." With that, Zhou Yunmei genuinely had brought trouble on herself, stuck between a rock and a hard place.
She sat on the bed, dumbfounded for a long while, unable to think of a solution, and then turned to Luo Dashan, "Old man, what should we do about this?"
"I'm done with all of you. Tomorrow, I'll have Zhiyong buy me a ticket back. You like to make a fuss, so keep at it here on your own." After saying this, Luo Dashan opened the door to the ward and left on his own.
Seeing Luo Dashan leave, Zhou Yunmei became more anxious and tried to persuade Luo Zhiming again to give up the idea, "Zhiming, perhaps we should rethink this, after all your big brother..."
Luo Zhiming was uncompromising, "Mom, you go tell big brother that if he wants to cut ties with me, let him do it. Honestly, having him as a big brother is no different from having none at all. Whenever something happens, he always prefers to take others' sides."
In fact, what he really wanted to say was that Luo Zhiyong, as an older brother, not only never helped him but also caused him quite a bit of trouble. He would be better off without such a brother.
Seeing both sons so headstrong, Zhou Yunmei was truly out of options and sighed, "Ah..."
After Luo Zhiyong returned to the shop, he was huffing and puffing with rage, his face pale and without a word went straight to the back of the shop.
Fang Pingying noticed something was wrong and quickly followed, asking him, "What happened? Did you have another row at the hospital?"
Still fuming, Luo Zhiyong growled, "Do not even mention it. From now on, I'm completely done with anything related to Luo Zhiming."
"What exactly happened?" Fang Pingying pressed for details.
Luo Zhiyong sighed and told Fang Pingying the whole story.
Fang Pingying wasn't surprised. To her, it wasn't strange that Zhou Yunmei and Luo Zhiming came up with such an idea. For money, they were even bold enough to court death; this was just another attempt to extort, and quite common for them.
However, Fang Pingying also considered that the owner of the lumber mill and Huang Lin were good friends, and Luo Zhiming's connection was made through Luo Zhiyong who had asked Huang Lin for a favor. Luo Zhiming actually extorting others would indeed put Huang Lin in a difficult position.
But obviously, judging by Luo Zhiyong's expression, he must have tried both pleading and scolding to no avail, hence his angry return.
After some thought, Fang Pingying said to Luo Zhiyong, "About this, you should still inform Huang Lin, otherwise it would trouble him after having helped us."
Luo Zhiyong had already thought about it and nodded, "Right, I'll talk to Huang Lin when I get back to the military base."
But just as he finished, Luo Dashan's voice came from outside, "Zhiyong..."
Luo Zhiyong and Fang Pingying exchanged a look and hurried out, "Dad."
Luo Dashan, looking a bit guilty as he faced Luo Zhiyong and Fang Pingying, felt he had brought back troubles.
But facing his son and daughter-in-law, Luo Dashan found it hard to say anything polite, and finally, with a sigh, he said to Luo Zhiyong, "Zhiyong, buy me a ticket for tomorrow; I'm heading back home."
Zhiyong looked outside to make sure Luo Dashan had come back alone, then frowned and asked, "You're going back alone?"
"That damned Zhiming would never give up, and I can't persuade him. As for your mother, I think I should bring her back with me." After thinking, Luo Dashan added, "Get two tickets then."
Luo Zhiyong nodded and said he'd go buy them later.
But upon hearing Luo Dashan's decision, some of Luo Zhiyong's anger subsided.
After all, parents and siblings are somewhat different. For his parents, there were some things he could not ignore, as he would have to be somewhat responsible while they were here.
But when it comes to siblings, as long as he has done his due diligence and his conscience was clear, that was enough.
In regards to Luo Zhiming as a brother, he believed he had been conscionable.
He saw the hardship in his brother's life and found him a job in the provincial city. At first, he provided money, bought him things, and settled him in. If Luo Zhiming were truly diligent, with his time in the provincial city by now he might have saved a good sum.
The current situation was his own doing.
As an older brother, he had done his best, so from now on Luo Zhiyong truly wouldn't bother with him anymore; let him do as he pleases.
Since he was going to buy train tickets with Luo Dashan, he wouldn't have time to go back to the military, so he thought of calling Huang Lin from Juzi's shop to tell him about the situation and also to let him relay the message to the lumber mill's owner - that Luo Zhiming's actions were his own, and he and Huang Lin were not involved, advising the lumber mill owner to handle things as they see fit.
Conveniently, Fang Pingying was also planning to check on her store, so she went with Luo Zhiyong.
On the other hand, Fang Pingying asked Luo Honglan to accompany Luo Dashan back home, and also instructed Luo Honglan to buy some groceries for dinner.
They left Yu'er in charge of the shop since it wouldn't be busy in the afternoon anyway.
When Fang Pingying and Luo Zhiyong arrived at the clothing store, Li Aihua was there too, chatting with Juzi.
