Chapter 317: The Two In-Laws Meet (Part 2)
Zhou Yunmei is a person with many thoughts, and she easily understood the complaints hidden in Li Aihua's words.
She darkened her face and directly rebutted Li Aihua's words, "Mother-in-law, what you said is not quite right. What do you mean we don't have time for her? Haven't I always been treasuring her? This time, her dad and I specifically came to take care of her."
"Really? I thought you were here to take care of your younger son's injuries. Then I was mistaken." Li Aihua offered an apology without much sincerity, and deliberately looked around before asking, "By the way, where is Mr. Zhiyong? I don't see him, and I was thinking of specifically coming over to greet him."
"His dad..." Zhou Yunmei stammered, because if she said that Luo Dashan had gone to the hospital, wouldn't that exactly confirm what Li Aihua had said—that they came here to take care of the younger son?
But Luo Honglan didn't catch the overt and covert struggle in their conversation and naively laughed, "Aunt Li, my dad went to the hospital."
"Oh, he went to the hospital after all, but didn't you just say..." Li Aihua deliberately left her sentence unfinished, then laughed heartily, pretending not to care, "It's fine, they are all sons, taking special care of either one is the same."
Zhou Yunmei's lips twitched, wanting to speak, but she didn't know what to say because Li Aihua was really too shrewd—her face was always smiling, but every single word targeted her.
What was more unbearable was that she was left speechless since everything the other said was justifiable.
Li Aihua looked at Zhou Yunmei, cracked a smile, and then said, "As for my daughter Pingying, if you don't have time to take care of her, it's no big deal. I can handle it myself. Our family's condition is not bad. Not to mention my daughter Pingying is carrying twins; even if it were triplets, I have the ability to take care of her. If necessary, I can hire a nanny to help at home. Others might not cherish my daughter, but I value her very much."
"You..."
"Pingying, there are guests at your home, so I'll leave first. Take these things with you." Li Aihua had achieved her purpose for coming today and didn't want to play around with Zhou Yunmei anymore. She ignored Zhou Yunmei's words as if she hadn't heard them, greeted Fang Pingying, "If things are really too busy at home, just let me know, and I'll send a nanny over to help take care of things. You mustn't strain yourself."
Li Aihua finished speaking, picked up her bag, and walked past Zhou Yunmei in her high-heeled shoes with an air of triumph.
Which made Zhou Yunmei watch her leaving figure, grinding her teeth angrily, her face alternating between red and pale.
She, Zhou Yunmei, had never felt such suffocation, being pushed to the point that she couldn't utter a word and was completely in a passive position.
Fang Pingying, who was standing off to the side, although she hadn't acknowledged Li Aihua yet, seeing Li Aihua render Zhou Yunmei speechless like this, she felt a cold chill in her heart, and suddenly realized that the older ginger is indeed spicier.
Li Aihua did not argue loudly at all, she always smiled cheerfully, but completely overwhelmed Zhou Yunmei, not even giving Zhou Yunmei a chance to speak.
However, she also understood that Li Aihua's purpose today was to purposely vent for her, probably hearing from Juzi about her past situation at home.
Having been a person in two lifetimes, Fang Pingying had never had her family stand up for her during conflicts with her in-laws; she always faced everything on her own. Today's feeling was somewhat heartwarming for her.
After Li Aihua left, Zhou Yunmei was full of anger with no place to vent, so she looked at Fang Pingying somewhat uncomfortably.
She glared at Fang Pingying, who was sitting by the cashier counter, walked over, and asked, "Why didn't you tell me about acknowledging your biological mother?"
Fang Pingying couldn't stand Zhou Yunmei's cowardly and hypocritical behavior. Having failed to win an argument with Li Aihua just now, she was trying to pressure her instead.
While doing the accounts, Fang Pingying glanced at Zhou Yunmei and said indifferently, "What's the matter with you? Are you planning to pay her a visit or what?"
"I..."
Seeing Zhou Yunmei's changing expression, Luo Honglan immediately tugged at her, pointing at the items that had been placed on the counter earlier, "Mom, haven't you said you're going to the hospital? Dad and second brother have been hungry all this time there, haven't they?"
"Yes, yes, I need to go to the hospital." Zhou Yunmei then remembered she had to deliver food to the hospital and turned to leave. But when she saw Luo Honglan, she suddenly said, "Hong Lan, come with me."
"Mom, you know the way yourself, don't you?" Luo Honglan didn't want to go with her because she knew Zhou Yunmei would bring up Li Aihua's matter, and she wasn't sure what she should or shouldn't disclose. Pretending to resist, she said, "Just go by yourself. If I take time off, they'll dock my wages for the whole morning. It's not worth it."
Annoyed at Fang Pingying upon hearing this, Zhou Yunmei said, "She's your sister-in-law, and you're still talking about docking wages?"
"It's been said that the shop isn't solely owned by sister-in-law; there's also a boss, and he's due to deliver some goods soon." Worried that Zhou Yunmei would cause a scene with Fang Pingying over this, Luo Honglan untied her apron, ready to accompany her, "Forget it, I don't care about this morning's money. I'll go with you."
Upon realizing money would actually be deducted, Zhou Yunmei immediately said, "No, why shouldn't I care? I'll go myself, I can find the way."
After saying this, Zhou Yunmei left on her own with the items in hand—and she took not only the breakfast but also all the fruits that Li Aihua had brought.
Fang Pingying coldly smirked as she watched her leave. There were a few others in their shop, and Zhou Yunmei didn't mention leaving any fruits behind, just taking care of Luo Zhiming.
But Fang Pingying never bothered to argue about these trivial matters.
As Zhou Yunmei left the doorstep, Yu'er came over with a smile and said to Fang Pingying and Luo Honglan, "Now there's finally someone who can stand up to Uncle's wife."
Fang Pingying gave Yu'er a look, then said to both her and Luo Honglan, "Don't speak nonsense. I don't intend to acknowledge that Aunt Li, but since she was here, I didn't want to make it too clear."
Luo Honglan got the hint and quickly replied, "Sister-in-law, I know, I won't tell my parents about your issue with Aunt Li."
"Sister-in-law, I actually think Aunt Li is pretty nice and cares about you," Yu'er tried to persuade Fang Pingying, "Let bygones be bygones, whether right or wrong. After all, she wasn't the one who wanted to abandon you back then; it was that man's fault."
"I agree. Having a mother who truly cares is different after all," Luo Honglan chimed in. "Sister-in-law, you see how Auntie Fang from the Fang Family didn't care when you quarreled with my mother. But today, Aunt Li intentionally came to defend you."
"I get it. You two go back to work. I can handle this matter myself." Actually, after today's event, Fang Pingying's heart had softened a bit.
Maybe it was because she had never felt a mother's love since she was young that she yearned for it deep down.
Plus, being pregnant herself now, she understood the challenges of motherhood.
