Chapter 11: [ Intro ] Chapter 11- Death is just a beginning (3)
The distant sound of tires screeching against asphalt echoed through the empty highway, a sharp contrast to the stillness of the scene ahead.
Two cars, speeding toward the broken remnants of an accident, halted just before they reached the bloodied body lying in the middle of the road.
Both Niharika and Laila bolted from their vehicles, their hearts beating in a frantic rhythm.
As if their whole bodies were frozen, they stood blinking after exiting their vehicles.
The cold wind sliced through the night, carrying the bitter scent of blood and the harsh sounds of burning metal a few feet away from the dead body.
Evident from the several pieces of the vehicle tattered around and the burning metal, with blood all over the asphalt, the accident was gruesome.
No, it was far worse.
thump thump
Laila's heart stopped as she stood there after stepping out of the car, her breath quick and shallow, her steps faltering as she saw the crumpled form of the man she had adored, the man who had saved her life so many years ago.
drip drip
Soon enough, the warm tears on that otherworldly face, contrasting with the coldness of the night, began to drench it.
Her steps were erratic as she sprinted, arriving just before her legs gave out beneath her, and she fell beside him, her chest heaving with the frantic, raw breaths she couldn't control.
"Akhil..." Her voice trembled, but the words were barely audible.
Her hands, shaking uncontrollably, reached out for him, touching his cold, bloodied skin.
"No… no… please… please don't leave me…" The words were a desperate plea, but there was nothing.
His body was still, frozen in death, and the life she had known, the future she had imagined with him, was now nothing more than a cruel, broken dream.
Her sobs came, wracking her body with a ferocity she hadn't known she had in her.
"Why….. Why did you leave me?" The tears spilled down her face, hot and unrelenting.
Her body shook with a pain so sharp it felt like her very heart was being torn apart, piece by piece.
She cradled his head in her lap, her fingers digging into his hair, her entire body trembling under the weight of the loss.
"Akhil… You promised… you promised you'd always be there!"
"Huh?! n-no!!" Niharika stood frozen beside them, her breath caught in her throat as she stared at him.
Her body trembled, but it was nothing compared to the storm raging inside her.
She had always been in control, always calculated, always distant—until now.
"This can't be real… This can't be happening…," she whispered under her breath, as if trying to convince herself that somehow, this wasn't true.
But the blood on the asphalt, the shattered expression on his face, told her otherwise.
Her knees buckled, and she fell to the ground beside Laila, her heart shattering with each breath she took.
"Akhil... why?"
Her voice was hoarse, torn.
"Why did you leave me?!"
She reached out for him, but the moment her fingers touched his bloodied skin, something inside her cracked wide open, a dark hole forming where hope once lived.
"You… you promised you'd never leave me. You promised me… you promised…"
The words twisted in her chest, choking her as tears spilled from her eyes.

For a moment, everything was silent except for their sobs.
The weight of their grief, of the emptiness they both felt, filled the air like a heavy fog.
And then, without warning, the pain erupted.
"WHO DID THIS?!"
Niharika screamed, her voice raw, a primal, guttural sound that echoed into the night.
The anger surged through her like a violent storm, crashing against the walls of her chest.
But it was mixed with a sorrow so deep it felt like her soul was being crushed beneath it.
"Who took him from me?!"
DING!
[ NICE TO MEET YOU MISS NIHARIKA ]
'Huh?!' Niharika froze mid-scream, her throat burning from the rawness of her anguish. Her tear-streaked face snapped up, her bloodshot eyes darting around in confusion.
The voice that resonated wasn't human. It was cold, mechanical, and emotionless, like an unfeeling specter whispering into her mind.
Laila's head shot up from where she was cradling Akhil's body. Her tear-streaked cheeks glistened under the faint glow of the broken streetlights.
"What was that?" Laila whispered, her voice trembling as her hands tightened around Akhil's shirt.
DING!
[ NICE TO MEET YOU, MISS LAILA. BOTH OF YOU HAVE BEEN SELECTED TO ASSIST IN THE RESURRECTION OF THE HOST SOUL, AKHIL. ]
The words didn't come from the air. They seemed to be imprinted directly into their minds, resonating so deeply it was impossible to ignore.
"What the hell is going on?!" Niharika hissed, her body quivering with fury and grief. She clutched Akhil's lifeless hand, her nails digging into his cold skin. "Who's talking? What is this?"
DING!
[ I AM THE SUPREME YANDERE SYSTEM. THE HOST SOUL AKHIL IS CURRENTLY IN A DEATH STATE. TO REVERSE THIS, OBSESSION POINTS MUST BE GATHERED. YOU TWO HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED AS THE HIGHEST POTENTIAL CONTRIBUTORS. ]
"Obsession points? What the fuck does that even mean?" Laila spat, her voice shaking with rage and disbelief. "What kind of sick joke is this?! Bring him back! Now!"
Niharika's fingers curled into fists as she glared at the empty night. "I don't care who or what you are—fix him! Fix him right now, or I'll—"
DING!
[ SILENCE. THE HOST SOUL CAN ONLY BE REVIVED IF YOU PROVE YOUR LOVE FOR HIM. THE STRONGER YOUR OBSESSION, THE MORE POINTS YOU GENERATE. ]
The words hit both women like a slap.
Laila's chest heaved as she screamed, "I don't need to prove anything! I loved him more than anything—more than my own life!" Her voice cracked, and fresh tears spilled down her cheeks. "What kind of monster are you to make me say it like this?! To use his death like this?!"
Niharika's jaw tightened, her teeth grinding audibly. "You… You think love is something you can measure?!" she snarled. "You bastard, I've given everything for him—every part of myself—do you think I'd let him die if I could stop it?! I'd do anything to bring him back! ANYTHING!"
DING!
[ STATEMENT ACKNOWLEDGED. BOTH OF YOU LOVE THE HOST MORE THAN YOUR OWN LIVES. HOWEVER, TO REVIVE HIM, MORE IS REQUIRED. THE COST IS NOT ONLY YOUR OWN SACRIFICES BUT THE SACRIFICE OF THIS WORLD. ]
Both women froze, their rage momentarily replaced by stunned silence.
"What…?" Laila's voice was a faint whisper, her wide eyes searching for meaning in the void. "Sacrifice… the world?"
[ THE HOST'S SOUL CAN ONLY BE RESURRECTED WITH A SIGNIFICANT OFFERING.]
[ IF YOU TRULY LOVE HIM MORE THAN YOUR OWN LIVES, YOU MUST PROVE IT BY GIVING UP THE LIVES OF ALL OTHERS IN THIS WORLD.]
[ THE CHOICE IS YOURS. ]
[ DECIDE. LOSE THIS WORLD, OR LOSE HIM FOREVER. ]
