"Miss, what's wrong?"

Xuexue looked distracted, Zi Xia asked with concern.

"Nothing, it's getting late, let's go back."

Suspecting Zi Xia based on a brief encounter with a stranger, Xuexue silently cursed herself for being inhuman. In her past life, Zi Xia had lost her life for her; if she could suspect anyone, it would never be her.

When the two rushed back to the War Prince's Mansion, the main gate was just about to close.

The guards closing the gate looked surprised upon seeing them: "Madam Situ, why are you returning only now?"

"There was something outside that delayed us."

"Oh, your sister is here; she's in your courtyard!"

"Sister?"

Xuexue was momentarily stunned; she had no sister, only a few stepsisters like Situtu Qinger.

"Yeah! She came this afternoon and is resting in your courtyard now, saying she'll stay here for a few days before going back."

Inside was pitch dark, with only two small lanterns left. Apparently, the so-called sister had already fallen asleep.

Since Madam Situ hadn't returned, some maids were keeping watch through the night.

"Madam Situ, you're back?" They had been waiting an entire evening, all dozing off.

Xuexue glanced at the dark room around them and said lightly, "The doorkeeper said my sister came; which sister is it?"

While handing Madam Situ her coat, the maid replied, "She claimed to be the Third Miss."

"Third Miss?"

"Yes, it's the Third Miss. She said she has a good relationship with Madam Situ, so she came to the War Prince's Mansion to accompany you and cheer you up!"

Situ Dieer?

"Lady Li came over to chat with Madam, and then she met the Third Miss, and they chatted all afternoon, having a great time."

The maid left out that the Third Miss had kept them busy with innumerable requests for snacks and fruits.

"What did they talk about?"

"Just some mundane things about Madam's daily life."

Upon hearing this, Xuexue immediately felt wary: this Situ Dieer, what was she doing coming to the War Prince's Mansion for no reason? Her snooping into private affairs; this unusual behavior clearly indicated a plot.

While speaking, Zi Xia had already helped her take down her hairbun, with her long black hair cascading to her waist.

Zi Xia picked up a wooden comb to gently smooth Xuexue's hair while instructing the maid, "Go fetch a basin of hot water so Madam can soak her feet before bed. In this cold weather, if she doesn't soak them, they'll still be cold come morning."

Maid: "Yes."

The maid responded as she bowed and retreated.

"Miss, why do you think the Third Miss is here?"

"Who knows, let's just wait and see." Whatever's meant to come will come; if others have schemes, she has no choice but to face them.
