Chapter 182.1
Cheng Qi’s eyes lit up as he stared at the corpses of the spiritual beasts, wishing he could go up and take them. However, Li Tianyan had discovered that these dead spiritual beasts could actually produce death energy. After giving instructions to Cheng Qi, he began using the Yin and Yang Technique to absorb the death energy in front of him into his body.
Seeing Li Tianyan enter meditation, Cheng Qi immediately withdrew his focus and guarded the surrounding area as his protector. The spiritual grass was still frantically absorbing the incoming spiritual energy, but many demon cultivators remained motionless, seemingly waiting for others to act first.
Half a day passed, and as the Emperor’s Essence Grass gradually turned from green to blood red, the Nascent Soul demon cultivator finally lost patience and appeared to attack the injured Tiger King.
The prototype of the Nascent Soul demon cultivator was a mad ape, with a pair of thick arms resembling giant hammers. Although the Tiger King was strong, he was no match for the demon cultivator. He was beaten to death in just a few punches.
The other demon cultivators, seeing the Tiger King defeated, were not happy at all. The spiritual grass was now guarded by a Nascent Soul demon cultivator, who had not even exerted much effort in the battle with the Tiger King.
In other words, they were now facing a Nascent Soul demon cultivator in his prime.
“Damn it,” Hu Yan gritted her teeth.
If she had known that a Nascent Soul would appear, she would have agreed to Hu Wei’s old fox’s terms.
Hei Yin approached Hu Yan with a group of wolf demons. “How about we join forces this time?”
“I thought we weren’t that familiar,” Hu Yan raised an eyebrow at him.
The Fox Clan and the Wolf Clan had always been evenly matched, with many conflicts arising as they competed for resources. Moreover, she hadn’t yet settled the score with Hei Yin about the golden-red blood bear from last time.
“As you can see, that Mad Ape is difficult to deal with. Neither of us will gain anything on our own. We can only join forces—unless, of course, you want the Emperor’s Essence to go to someone else,” Hei Yin suggested, spreading his hands.
“Join forces with you? And who ends up with the Emperor’s Essence?” Hu Yan asked, raising a brow with a half-smile.
“We’ll have a showdown after dealing with the Mad Ape,” Hei Yin replied.
Hu Yan considered it for a moment. A glint flashed in her eyes before she nodded in agreement. “Cooperation, yes.”
Just as the two finished their discussion, the surrounding spiritual energy calmed. Everyone watched as the Emperor’s Essence Grass completed its transformation. Every root on its body now glowed bright red, as if soaked in a pool of blood.
When the mad ape saw the spiritual grass mature, his eyes flashed with excitement. Just as he was about to reach out to pick it, he found himself surrounded by a group of demon cultivators.
When he clearly saw who had come to stop him, a fierce light suddenly appeared in his big eyes. “It turns out to be the six-tailed fox and the shadow wolf,” he growled.
“Since you know it’s us, why don’t you hurry up and get lost?” Hu Yan said domineeringly, folding her arms.
“Others may fear you, but I, the Mad Ape, do not. You’d best not come here to throw your lives away,” the Mad Ape retorted. Having lived in the mountains for years without aligning with any demon clan, he was confident that even if he got the spiritual grass, he could retreat to the mountains and hide for a few years if necessary.
“A monkey dares to challenge us.” Hu Yan snorted coldly. In an instant, a dozen fox demons released arrows toward the Mad Ape.
Seeing the fox clan take action, the wolf clan refused to be outdone. Sword winds conjured by more than a dozen core formation wolf demons merged into a single, fierce attack aimed at the Mad Ape.
But the Nascent Soul demon cultivator was not so easily defeated. Every attack was blocked by the Mad Ape’s copper-like arms.
Realizing their strong attacks had failed, the fox demons brought out magic bells and unleashed the Sky Fox Illusion Technique on the Mad Ape.
“Such a strong body odour,” Li Tianyan muttered, just waking up from his trance. The scent released by the fox demons made him frown.
“Young master, you woke up! Those fox monsters are performing illusions on the monkey. Who do you think will win in the end?” Cheng Qi asked curiously.
“If it’s just a fight, the mad ape has a higher chance of winning. But if it turns into a life-and-death struggle, the mad ape will certainly die,” Li Tianyan replied.
“Why?” Cheng Qi asked, surprised to hear that even a Nascent Soul could die at the hands of these two.
“They likely have life-saving magic weapons from the Void Refining demon cultivator. If their lives are threatened, the weapons will unleash a single blow at the Void Refining level. With the Mad Ape’s cultivation, such an attack would guarantee his death,” Li Tianyan explained. “That was why I avoided confronting the two of them last time.”
“So that’s how it is,” Cheng Qi said, nodding with a hint of distress. “Having a strong backer is truly troublesome.”
While the two were talking, the mad ape had gradually fallen into the illusion. His body began to shake uncontrollably. Sensing their chance, the wolf clan used the animal trap rope to bind the Mad Ape.
With the Nascent Soul demon cultivator subdued by the two clans, the surrounding demon cultivators began stirring with excitement. Among them, a thin demon cultivator transformed into a gopher and burrowed into the ground.
Li Tianyan narrowed his eyes, watching the gopher’s movements. “Well, well,” he murmured, “even a gopher demon carries the bloodline of a treasure-hunting rat.”
Unfortunately, the gopher demon’s cultivation level was too low, and he was discovered by the wolf clan before he could get close. A grey wolf swung a knife toward the ground, cutting the gopher demon in half as it burrowed through the soil. However, this sudden movement startled the Mad Ape, who had fallen into the illusion, causing him to wake up abruptly.
The dozen or so wolf demons restraining him were instantly flung away. The Mad Ape broke free from the bindings, beat his chest, and let out a low roar.
The mad ape, irritable and quick-tempered by nature, gradually had his pupils turn red. Entering a frenzied state, he stopped caring about anything else and launched ferocious attacks on both the wolves and foxes.
