Rebirth of the Noble Mage Behind the Scenes

Chapter 451: 226: Crimson Barrier

The moment Anvis poured blood onto the pyramid, he immediately felt a subtle shift in the Net of Destiny.

His current actions were evidently disadvantageous to the Child of Destiny, Landon, hence the Net of Destiny reacted accordingly and began to sanction him.

However, perhaps due to his previous identity as Vio, he did not consume any power from the destiny feedback. Instead, his destiny became entangled in a special way with Landon's.

Simply put, he now became the main antagonist in Landon's story.

Realizing all this, Anvis couldn't help but sigh, feeling somewhat peculiar.

He had intended to join the good camp this time, yet somehow he unwittingly became the villain again.

…Wait, why did I say again?

Reflecting upon his past actions and what he was about to do, Anvis shook his head, somewhat helplessly.

He questioned himself and admitted that his way of conducting himself might indeed not be so particularly just, but it should still be a ways off from being a villain.

Throughout his life, he hadn't even personally killed an enemy.

Most of his enemies were dealt with by his guards, and the few he did encounter either died accidentally or committed suicide due to internal conflicts.

Being so innocent, why was it so difficult just to preserve his own life and registration?

This incident, however, did give him a wake-up call.

Looking at the pendant in his hand, Anvis became lost in thought.

He had originally planned to activate Helros' Infinite Magic Book after one party obtained it. By harvesting a series of destiny feedback that ensued, he aimed to try breaking through to the Eighth Rank Prophet.

But Anvis suddenly thought of something – making this choice might indeed allow him to likely break through the Eighth Rank, but his destiny would also be deeply entangled with the fate of the Federation.

If so, to other Prophets, it would be like losing the cover of the fog, changing him from a player outside the board to a pawn in the game.

If it were at the final moments of an intense war, that wouldn't matter much. But entering the fray too early would be disadvantageous, as exposing oneself too soon could lead to targeted joint attacks.

Additionally, due to his identity as the leader of the Embers, the Children of Destiny affected by his actions would also entangle with his fate, resulting in certain repercussions.

Fate is fair; one cannot expect to be the referee and also play in the game.

Massaging his temples, Anvis eventually discarded the idea of directly activating it and planned to find an appropriate person to do it instead. Afterwards, he could distribute some of the negative impacts on him through a Secret Magic Ceremony.

Thus, he shifted his gaze around and gradually his eyes settled on Xia Ye Yinghuo nearby.

"Mirror Man, is there anything you'd like to instruct?"

Felt slightly uncomfortable under Anvis's gaze, the player girl scratched her arm and spoke softly.

Although the rewards were not bad, staying in one place was rather boring, her only entertainment being browsing the forum and partaking in lotteries.

Fortunately, after the recent updates, a new fashion roulette was released. The previous roulette could be emptied after drawing all the Legendary Sets a few times.

As she spoke, the girl casually clicked again, then saw the familiar golden-orange glow.

Well, it looks like this new roulette won't last long either.

"…Never mind, it's nothing."

Retracting his gaze, Anvis no longer looked at her.

Though curious about what consequences the player's involvement might cause, he was concerned that when the time came to transfer the negativity, the destiny ceremony might fail to localize the target.

Meanwhile, he had also considered the candidate for the target.

Due to the effects after the pendant's activation, which rapidly increased the progress of the Resistance Army's occupation, the ideal person to activate the pendant should be an important member of the Resistance Army camp.

Additionally, this person must be tough, otherwise, if they were caught up in the major trends of fate and kept having bad luck till death, then they themselves would still have to bear the backlash of fate.

The final point is that the target's level can't be too high, otherwise his ceremony would not be effective.

All in all, Landon, who was helping him hunt for treasure, was a good choice.

Taking out a portable alchemy house, Anvis entered it and began to observe the situation near the basin while waiting for further changes in the ruins.

During this wait, one or two days quickly passed by.

In this period, a Ninth Rank and several Seventh and Eighth Rank Professionals whose reason was clouded by greed chose to enter the ruins for exploration.

Eventually, in Anvis's observation, changes in the ruins finally occurred.

.….….

By now, Landon, Ray, and their team had delved deep below the pyramid, gradually approaching the true core area of the ruins.

Actually, compared to the true volume of the ruins, the surface's Black Pyramid was like the tip of an iceberg, with the one-tenth portion above the surface and the nine-tenths portion below.

After entering the ruins, aside from some Players and several Resistance Army members of Sixth Rank and above who relied on their strength to choose to explore freely apart from the team, the others continued to follow Ray.

Previously, the Dark Crow, who touted that it could recall more memories and instigate Landon to explore the ruins, fell silent after truly entering the pyramid, and there was no response even when Landon tried to call it.

If he could not barely sense its presence, he would have almost thought the Dark Crow had vanished.

Simultaneously, he himself also felt a peculiar familiarity towards the alien power around, as if the Power of Apoptosis he mastered originated from the same source as the power within the ruins.

Although unable to influence, he had a very clear perception of its subtle flow.

Along the way, relying on this sense, Landon managed to guide the team to avoid many major crises. The remaining hazards and bizarre creatures were dealt with by Ray.

The spoils obtained during this time were also temporarily kept with Ray, prepared to be distributed after leaving the ruins.

Finally, after clearing another strange black mucus mass blocking their way, the Core Hall at the base of the ruins finally opened to them.

But upon seeing the scene inside the Core Hall, everyone realized that things were not that simple.

A huge spherical force field imbued with a sinister dark red aura enveloped the central area of the great hall, with the contents inside appearing vague and unclear.

A corpse holding a black long-handled Magic Wand, dressed in a Magic Robe, sat on the ground beside the force field, with a thick Magic Book fallen next to it.

With the magical radiance illuminating from the sides of the people, one could faintly see a blood-red eye still slowly revolving on the cover of that book.

"Dark Crow Pavilion…"

Quietly looking at this scene, Landon habitually wanted to ask for the Dark Crow's opinion. Only then did he realize that the Dark Crow was currently unreachable due to unknown reasons.

Thus, he shifted his gaze to his side.

"…Xia Ye Yinghuo, what do you think."

On the ground beside him, a large black dog shook its head, not prepared to offer a dog's opinion.

Strangely enough, this dog's four paws were enveloped in faint black transparent flames, seemingly like an envoy from Hell, instilling fear in others.

This creature had hatched from a Magic Beast Egg he obtained in that initial ruin, but during incubation, the egg was unexpectedly affected by his Power of Apoptosis, resulting in the hatched creature gaining peculiar traits.

Landon had named it Xia Ye Yinghuo.
