Chapter 885: Gasoline Trade
The base station mentioned by Luo Yuan's group was indeed standing in the middle of a desert.
From a distance, a row of neatly arranged drilling platforms came into view for the group of people.
"There are a lot of people inside."
Mao Qiqi counted and found that there were actually over two hundred people inside, but most of them were without special abilities.
"There's not much of a zombie presence here."
Lin Cheng also commented, noting that unlike the zombie-infested H Province, zombies couldn't be seen anywhere within a few miles of here.
After everyone got out of the car and they learned more about the situation, they realized that the survivors here were actually local drill workers, who were operating on the oil wells during the early post-apocalyptic period, thereby avoiding disaster, while Luo Yuan and Zhao Nian arrived here later.
"We are responsible for protecting them, using the oil here to trade for resources outside and bring them back. Although there are occasional minor frictions, things are generally manageable."
Zhao Nian explained as he walked beside several rows of drilling platforms with the group.
"Even if you can extract oil now, wouldn't it need further refining to become gasoline? Do you still have the needed conditions for that?"
Lu Guanhai asked curiously.
"The catalytic factory over there can complete the process. This place is remote, and wind and solar power generation are quite sufficient."
Luo Yuan pointed to a small factory not far away and said, noting that having electricity was one of the reasons they stayed here.
"I see, it looks unsuitable for living, but there are actually quite a few advantages."
Lu Guanhai realized.
As the group continued their tour, the survivors inside were also watching them, with many people eavesdropping on their conversations out of curiosity.
Until the group was taken into a meeting room, still surrounded by onlookers outside the window.
"Since we're all here, Captain Zhao, name your price."
Lu Hao spoke directly.
Zhao Nian seemed somewhat bothered by the onlookers outside, waving a hand to conjure a metal barrier that blocked their view.
"What resources can you exchange for goods?"
Zhao Nian inquired.
"We still have some food, rice, or flour. Name your price per pound, and you set the terms."
Su Jin replied.
Zhao Nian looked at the unremarkable Zhang Xiaohong, nodded, and after consulting with Luo Yuan and others, set the price: one pound of food for five liters of gasoline, which is equivalent to one pound of food for ten pounds of gasoline.
After all, food was far more important than gasoline in the apocalypse, and they didn't have much confidence when facing the Dragon Ruler group.
"Alright, we plan to purchase five of those oil tanks. Is that going to be a problem?"
Su Jin asked.
"Miss Zhang, each tank has a capacity of 1000L. Are you sure you want five tanks?!"
Luo Yuan asked in shock. Five tanks meant a whole 1000 pounds of food!
"If you have them, then yes."
Lu Hao also confirmed.
"Deal!"
Zhao Nian slapped the table and agreed, as 1000 pounds of food was an astronomical figure to them.
Those behind Luo Yuan were also joyful; they were indeed having a lucky day.
However, when the transaction was confirmed and Zhao Nian was preparing to take the Dragon Ruler group to the warehouse to collect the goods, the outside onlookers blocked their path.
"Zhao Nian, you can't conduct transactions with others without telling us. This oil field belongs to us!"
A black and thin man stared at Zhao Nian's group with displeasure.
"Old Wang, we didn't hide it from you. It's just that this team desires confidentiality regarding the information. Once they leave, we'll make the traded goods available and distribute them evenly among everyone."
Zhao Nian said helplessly, explaining that he erected the barrier earlier because the Dragon Ruler group seemed bothered by being watched and had no intention to pocket the goods.
"No way, we need to know what you traded our oil for."
A group of people jostled, completely blocking the path of Zhao Nian's group.
Lu Hao protected his family, stepping aside as these were matters for Zhao Nian's group, and they were only there for the transaction, not to interfere.
"Excuse us, everyone, could you please wait a moment?"
A long-haired middle-aged woman next to the Space Element Ability User Xiao Yezi apologized.
"Hmm, no problem."
Su Jin smiled. No wonder Zhao Nian mentioned they occasionally have minor frictions, though this seemed to be more than just minor.
"What?! You can get 1000 pounds of food?!"
Old Wang's shocked voice came from a distance, indicating Zhao Nian truthfully told them everything.
However, Lu Hao sharply noticed that among those people, a few of them had their eyes on them with very different expressions.
There was envy, greed, and contemplation...
"Be as careful as possible in a bit later."
Su Jin also sensed something and advised.
"Alright."
The family nodded, staying closer to each other.
Even during the transaction, over 200 people watched without missing a single move from the family.
"Captain Zhao, here is 500 pounds of rice. After we take the oil tanks in, we'll bring out another 500 pounds of flour. You have no objections, right?"
Su Jin said while looking at the surrounding people.
"No objections."
Zhao Nian understood that the Dragon Ruler group suddenly seemed more cautious, certainly due to Old Wang's group, as anyone being constantly watched would feel uncomfortable.
"No way, what if you don't bring out the other half?"
Old Wang stood out again, pointing directly at Su Jin.
"Old Wang! Don't go too far!"
Luo Yuan couldn't hold back anymore; they often ventured outside and knew about the Dragon Ruler's reputation. The food they brought was genuine, and besides, they trusted enough to follow them inside. Why worry about such things?
An ice spike suddenly appeared between Old Wang's brows.
Old Wang didn't see anything before being startled to the ground by a chill, only to find an unremarkable young man walking out and saying:
"If we don't bring out the other half, what can you do to us?"
Lin Xiuyuan looked at Old Wang on the ground with a half-smile. Su Jin and Lu Hao didn't want to reveal their abilities, but he didn't mind.
"You, you bullies!"
Immediately, two men helped Old Wang up, but their gazes at the group now carried a hint of fear.
Unexpectedly, an Ice Element, and they hadn't even noticed when he made a move.
"Go on."
Lu Hao said to Zhao Nian.
Zhao Nian nodded, ignoring the onlookers, and swiftly completed the transaction with Su Jin.
"This would be it, but we might trouble Captain Zhao to escort us out of here."
Su Jin mentioned that their car probably couldn't get out of this desert area.
"No problem, we'll escort you."
Zhao Nian nodded in agreement.
Seeing Zhao Nian and the Dragon Ruler group leave, Old Wang's group among the crowd eyeing the neatly arranged supplies on the ground with a plan brewing in their minds.
