Chapter 18
In the classroom, there were only two students, and today’s schedule included just this one class. After Chu Muxi finished the class, he planned to head home.
At some point, Phil had disappeared. As Chu Muxi walked outside, a figure suddenly jumped in front of him.
“Hello, junior! We meet again!” Cen Xue stood in front of him with a smile.
Chu Muxi said with a headache, “Senior, I’m going home.”
“Oh, don’t be in a hurry, just a few words, come with me. How about I treat you to afternoon tea, junior?” Cen Xue insisted, pulling him along.
Chu Muxi quickly withdrew his hand and said a bit shyly, “There’s a difference between males and females.”
Cen Xue laughed heartily, “Haha, junior, you’re quite interesting.” She winked, “You know, polite boys like you are a rare sight these days.”
Chu Muxi offered a shy smile, “My mother always said that girls should uphold etiquette and show respect to others.”
“Your mother must be a very gentle person,” Cen Xue said sincerely.
A fleeting memory crossed Chu Muxi’s eyes, soon veiled by sadness. “Yes, she was a very gentle person.”
“Junior, you -” Realizing that she may have touched a sensitive topic, Cen Xue, usually carefree, felt a sense of empathy when dealing with a junior who seemed like a timid little rabbit.
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have mentioned it.” She then remembered that Chu Muxi’s biological mother had passed away.
After all, Cen Xue was from the news media department, and upon discovering Chu Muxi, she had immediately started investigating.
However, after two brief encounters with Chu Muxi, she felt that the results of her investigation, which included rumors of arrogance and bullying classmates, didn’t align with her actual experiences with him.
The gentle, cute, and softly-spoken boy in front of her was nothing like the rumors suggested.
Chu Muxi raised his head and smiled at her. “It’s alright. It’s been a while, and I’ve gotten used to it.” Yet, the sadness in his eyes was difficult to conceal.
Cen Xue’s maternal instincts welled up, and she wanted to hug him and offer comfort.
Chu Muxi was aware that he had gained Cen Xue’s sympathy. Though he had complex emotions regarding his mother, he hadn’t been able to express them openly before. After all, Cen Xue was just a senior he had met briefly.
However, now he had learned a little trick, which he could try.
Cen Xue was completely caught up in the emotions, her face expressing her sympathy: “You poor thing, I really feel for you, let me hug you.”
It was impossible to hug!
The sadness in Chu Muxi’s eyes began to dissipate as he pretended to be strong and asked with a smile, “Senior, where are we going?”
Cen Xue, overwhelmed by emotions, couldn’t help but feel immense sympathy for the cute, strong-willed junior.
“Ahem,” Cen Xue cleared her throat and said, “We won’t have afternoon tea anymore. I’ll treat you to a big dinner!” She waved her hand decisively.
Chu Muxi couldn’t help but chuckle, “But it’s not dinnertime yet, is it?”
“Well, forget it, let’s have afternoon tea. I know of a delightful dessert shop. Are you interested?” Cen Xue seemed to be luring a child with a treat.
Chu Muxi blinked, “Sure, I like desserts.”
As they arrived at the place, Chu Muxi realized he was familiar with this dessert shop. The place was called ‘Tiantianmi’
And while the name may have been somewhat tacky, the shop itself was a hidden gem. After navigating through many twists and turns, they finally found the unassuming shop tucked away on a corner.
Upon opening the door, they were met with an interior full of unique decor. There were hanging rattan chairs, vintage records, and portraits of renowned figures adorning the walls.
Among those recognizable figures were leaders from various industries and even dignitaries and members of the royal family, some of whom were rarely seen in public. Chu Muxi even spotted Lu Junzhi’s mother, Princess Nefu, smiling and arm in arm with someone, though that person’s figure was partly obscured by a beam of light.
Chu Muxi, drawn to the photo, moved closer and caught a glimpse of the younger Lu Junzhi.
“Surprisingly, even Marshal Lu has visited this place.” Cen Xue remarked as she joined him.
“You troublesome girl, who have you brought with you now? Let me tell you, I’ll never allow your fiancé to set foot in my shop again. Otherwise, I’ll launch him out with a cannon!” An energetic old man in a chef’s hat suddenly appeared before the two of them.
Chu Muxi had just shifted his gaze from Lu Junzhi’s photo, but upon seeing the old man, his eyes squinted.
He was incredibly excited, and luckily, he stood behind Cen Xue at that moment. Chu Muxi clenched his fists to suppress his inner excitement, ensuring the other person wouldn’t see it.
Who would have guessed that a dessert master who hid among regular folks could not only create delicious treats but also design mechas!
Even more astonishing, he was the legendary mecha master known as Mr. Barlow!
Mr. Barlow’s mechas were extremely rare and could fetch tens of millions of stars. He wouldn’t even replace a single component unless he liked it.
Lu Junzhi’s renowned spacecraft, which struck fear into the hearts of interstellar pirate groups, was named Chunjun and was crafted by this very same old man.
However, Mr. Barlow had only created mechas for a few selected individuals, with Chunjun being the most recent example.
Numerous people had attempted to locate Mr. Barlow, seeking him to create mechas or train them. But the old man had always remained elusive, refusing to take on any disciples. Most importantly, people couldn’t even find him.
Chu Muxi was well-informed because, just one day before he died, it had been revealed that Mr. Barlow had been assassinated and killed in this dessert shop. His true identity was unveiled, leaving countless people devastated and vowing to capture the murderer.
“Hello, my name is Chu Muxi. I’m a sophomore in the Performance Department at Imperial University.” Chu Muxi introduced himself to the old man.
“Performance department? What’s that?” The old man had a pipe in his mouth, and he squinted at the young man before him.
Chu Muxi smiled, “It’s a fascinating subject, much like a dessert. Underneath its colorful appearance lies the dedication of ten years of honing a skill.”
The old man raised his eyebrows slightly upon hearing this, as if he hadn’t expected Chu Muxi to say something like that.
“What’s your name again?” the old man inquired.
“Chu Muxi,” he replied. “My grandfather is Shen Wu.”
Chu Muxi remembered his grandfather mentioning this person in the past, and his tone had been tinged with sadness. So, Chu Muxi decided to take a chance.
In response, Mr. Barlow slammed his hand on the table and exclaimed, “Are you that old guy’s grandson?”
“Uh,” Chu Muxi was momentarily taken aback. “Yes, my grandfather is—”
“Enough, get out, get out! Anyone associated with that old man can’t be a good person. Leave immediately!” The old man ordered, visibly upset.
