Chapter 488: Seeking Help
Yang Haoran and Ma Ling have had very little contact over the years, apart from exchanging brief text messages during holidays and festivals. So when Yang Haoran saw Ma Ling's number on the caller ID, he was quite surprised.
Although puzzled as to why Ma Ling was calling him, Yang Haoran still answered the phone.
"Hello, uncle, what are you up to?" Ma Ling's lively voice came through the phone, and despite the long time since their last conversation, it still had the same vibrant quality.
"Haha, I'm just lying in bed and smoking a cigarette," Yang Haoran replied with a chuckle.
"Oh, you're so free. It's been a while since we last talked. How have you been doing lately?" Ma Ling asked with a smile.
"I'm doing alright. How about you?" Yang Haoran asked in return.
After exchanging a few pleasantries, Ma Ling finally got to the point.
"Uncle, I have a favor to ask you, and I'm wondering if you'd be willing to help," Ma Ling said with a smile.
"Oh? I don't know what it is yet, so why don't you tell me about it first, and then I'll know if I can help you," Yang Haoran replied with a smile.
"Well, it's a bit difficult to explain all at once," Ma Ling said, organizing her thoughts. "Recently, my elders have given me a task, and based on my current abilities, I don't think I can complete it on my own. Among my friends, there aren't many who can help me with this, and you happen to be one of them, so that's why I'm reaching out to you."
"Haha, you've said a lot, but you still haven't made it clear what exactly this task is. What is this task you're talking about?" Yang Haoran asked with a chuckle.
"My task is to deal with zombies, but not the lowest-level corpse puppets. It's to deal with powerful corpse fiends. Ordinary corpse fiends wouldn't be too much trouble for me, but if it's a particularly powerful one, I'll have a hard time handling it on my own, so that's why I wanted to ask for your help," Ma Ling explained.
Among the corpse fiends, there are both weak and strong ones, just like among Burial Masters, where the power levels can vary greatly. Based on Ma Ling's understanding, the corpse fiend she needs to deal with is exceptionally powerful, not necessarily the strongest, but definitely a formidable one. She's worried that her own abilities may not be enough to defeat it, so she's hoping Yang Haoran can lend a hand.
When Yang Haoran heard the word "zombie," his expression immediately stiffened. During the great calamity at Yangjia Bay, he was the only one to survive, while all the other clan members were tragically killed. The culprit behind this disaster was Master Zhou, who had used a powerful corpse fiend in his attack.
Master Zhou had utilized a corpse fiend to turn all the people of Yangjia Bay into corpse puppets in a short amount of time, sparing no one, including Yang Haoran's own parents.
Because of this matter, Yang Haoran was very resistant to the existence of zombies in his heart, so when he heard Ma Ling mention zombies just now, the smile on his face suddenly froze.
However, it was only for a moment, and his smile soon returned to his face, and he gave Ma Ling an affirmative answer.
"Okay, I'll agree to it."
Receiving such a straightforward and affirmative response from Yang Haoran, Ma Ling was taken aback. She had thought she would have to put in some effort to persuade Yang Haoran, but she didn't expect him to agree so readily.
However, she was only taken aback for a moment, and then she reacted, her voice becoming excited and happy.
"Great! Thank you so much!"
Ma Ling's excited voice reached Yang Haoran's ears, and he asked with a smile, "When do we set off?"
"If possible, you'd better come to Ancheng today, and we'll prepare and set off from there," Ma Ling said.
"Okay, I'll contact you again when I arrive in Ancheng," Yang Haoran said, then hung up the phone.
Yang Haoran knew that Ma Ling was from Ancheng, but he had always been in a hurry when going to Ancheng and then hurrying back to Lecheng, so he had never gone to visit Ma Ling.
The reason why he agreed to Ma Ling's request so readily this time was not only because they were friends, but also because the target was zombies.
He didn't have the ambition to kill all the zombies in the world, but since he had encountered them and a friend needed help, he might as well help Ma Ling.
Moreover, the Ma family was quite powerful and had a high status in Ancheng, and if he maintained a good relationship with Ma Ling, he might be able to get some help from them in the future.
In addition to these reasons, Yang Haoran currently had something he needed Ma Ling's help with, and Ma Ling seemed to be quite proficient in formation flags, so he hoped she could help him set up a good formation flag to protect his residence.
Extinguishing the cigarette butt, Yang Haoran got out of bed. As for whether to further improve Master Wu and Xiu Juan's strength, he decided to put it off for the time being, as he felt he needed to think about it more. This chapter was first seen on MV^LEM^PYR.
After making a phone call to Master Wu to give him a few instructions, Yang Haoran changed into a new set of clothes and tore open a spatial rift to head to Ancheng.
For the current Yang Haoran, going to Ancheng was just a matter of spatial teleportation. When he stepped out of the spatial rift, he had already arrived in Ancheng.
After arriving in Ancheng, Yang Haoran called Ma Ling, and when Ma Ling learned that Yang Haoran had already arrived in Ancheng, she was both surprised and delighted, as she hadn't expected Yang Haoran to be so fast.
They agreed on a meeting place, and Yang Haoran headed to the destination, which was a park in Ancheng. When Yang Haoran arrived at the park, Ma Ling had not yet appeared, and after waiting for a while, Ma Ling's figure finally appeared in his line of sight.
Since their parting in Lecheng, Yang Haoran had not seen Ma Ling again. Now, seeing Ma Ling again, the once little girl had grown into a young woman. Many things about her had changed, but two things remained the same as before: her dazzling long legs and her lively and cute personality.
