Chapter 66: CHAPTER 65: Rescue
"A very cute girl. Is she your daughter?"
Upon hearing Javier's words, Wilson coughed awkwardly. "She is the president's daughter, Ashley Graham."
After hearing Wilson's response, Javier suddenly understood—it made sense that it was Ashley.
"Why are you showing me a photo of the president's daughter?"
"Ashley was kidnapped from her university, and her current whereabouts are unknown. I hope you can help find her," Wilson said.
The president's daughter had been kidnapped within her own country. This was a direct slap in the face for Wilson, the Secretary of Defense, and highlighted his own incompetence. It felt like an open provocation.
His subordinates were all soldiers—there were no agents capable of covert operations. That's why he turned to Javier. He knew how powerful Javier was; even his best soldiers felt uneasy in his presence.
Besides, Javier was a member of the Azure Dragon Company. That organization had become a giant. To find Ashley, they would have to rely on its strength.
"This matter must be kept absolutely secret. Only a few people know about Ashley's disappearance. If you manage to rescue her, you'll win the friendship of the president—and of me," Wilson said solemnly.
Seeing the benefits, Javier agreed, and Wilson left satisfied. Javier then asked Wilson to arrange a leave of absence for him, using the excuse of a classified mission.
Javier said goodbye to Jill and returned to the Company headquarters. He asked Natasha to contact Krauser to determine whether Ashley had been kidnapped by Los Iluminados.
In the original game, it was Krauser who kidnapped Ashley. But now that Krauser was on Javier's side, that would be impossible.
Three days later, Krauser reported that there was indeed a girl being held by Los Iluminados, but he hadn't seen her himself. He didn't yet have their full trust—they were too cautious.
Still, it felt like Ashley really was there. Javier decided to proceed with the rescue. For this mission, Han Long accompanied him with the Wolves team.
Meanwhile, President Graham had also received intelligence about his daughter's possible location, and dispatched Leon to rescue her.
It could be said that both parties set out at the same time, heading toward a remote village in Spain. Javier traveled in several vehicles belonging to the Company's local branch.
At that moment, Leon was negotiating with the local police. When they learned where Leon planned to go, they refused to accompany him—it was too strange. The residents didn't welcome outsiders, and the police felt the same. Several officers had already gone missing in the area.
Javier and his team were driving down the road that led to the village. According to the guide, there was only one way to enter.
After passing through a dark trail, they arrived at the edge of the village. The only way in was a wooden bridge, which was in poor condition and couldn't support vehicles. They had to proceed on foot.
Once they disembarked, the convoy left, and Javier's team would not be using it for their return—their extraction would be by helicopter, already standing by.
"Boss, should we go in now?"
"According to intel from our spies, all the villagers have been infected with parasites. Kill them on sight."
Javier then led the Wolves across the single-plank bridge. Meanwhile, Leon was riding in a broken-down police car, heading toward the village under the guidance of two officers.
On the way, Leon spotted Javier's convoy. Seeing the logo on the vehicles, he raised an eyebrow in confusion.
Javier's team crossed the bridge and followed a path that led them to the outskirts of the village. From a high vantage point, Javier observed the village through a telescope.
Nothing appeared out of the ordinary. The villagers were busy—some feeding chickens, others drying grain. It looked just like any normal village.
Javier signaled silently, and his team dispersed throughout the area. Vector activated his cloaking and silently infiltrated the village, while Javier boldly opened the front gate and stepped inside.
Javier entered the central square. All the villagers stopped what they were doing and stared at him.
Within seconds, they began to scream and advance toward him with weapons.
Javier raised his hand and gave a signal. From the rooftops, Wolves operatives emerged and opened fire on the villagers below.
As expected, these villagers behaved like zombies. They only died if shot in the head. Wounds to other parts of the body were ineffective.
Some didn't even die from headshots. In those cases, grotesquely, the parasites within them replaced their heads.
Las Plagas parasites are different from viruses. Although parasites can carry viruses, the two are fundamentally distinct—even if they share similar transmission methods, hosts, symptoms, and reproductive strategies.
The key difference lies in their cellular structure: parasites are multicellular and capable of independent thought, while viruses are acellular and lack such capability.
Once infected by Las Plagas, humans lose some sanity but retain a high level of intelligence and reasoning. They can still speak, perform tasks, and even feel pain.
The parasites control their nervous systems without accelerating metabolism, so hosts don't develop intense hunger or shed skin.
That's why enemies in Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5 have intact skin. They're aggressive because the parasites control their nervous systems and give them a high resistance to trauma. It's not that they don't feel pain—Las Plagas simply make them more resistant to it.
Another difference: both the T-Virus and G-Virus have regenerative abilities, but Las Plagas do not.

Hmph. If you really want to be useful, then entertain me, try to throw those pathetic power stones at me. Let's see if even your insolence can amuse a king.
