Chapter 2424: Stop living



The Poseidon team went into discussion mode.

Since they agreed that there is no Gambler team anymore, they decided to take their sweet time on planning their expansion and they wanted to make it rapid.

However, while they are in the middle of that discussion...

The new team assigned to Nalvahan city has arrived. Almost all the members of that city's force have gone and died in that explosion. So, the team arranged for a new team to take over. However, the new team is a bit surprised by the situation here.

Because what they came to was an empty city.

And they are not considering the civilians. Because according to the formation strategy they have, the outer circle cities will not have any civilians. They are confused because there are no guards left.

The Gambler academy has of course assassinated them and cleaned the traces up.

And the new team didn't even have to unlock the formation with the special tokens they had. Because Sam has turned off the formation before they left.

They arrived at the city and look at its state. They couldn't even communicate without the formations active. So, they hurriedly went to activate the core according to the instructions they have gotten.

The core got activated and all the defense mechanisms of the city are working properly. They even checked the alert mechanisms with some tests. Only after they are sure that everything is working as they should, did they contacted the Poseidon team and explained the weird situation they faced.

While the call was still in progress...

"Sir, I don't know what happened, but the people you said will be here, are not here. Maybe they defected or...."

The guy couldn't even finish the words and fell on the ground. He didn't show any signs of pain, nor could he do it. His body just froze and he fell on the spot. At the same time, the communication formation got turned off.

The man tried to move. He wanted to at least move his mouth a bit, but he couldn't. His mouth froze in the exact same expression as it had when he was speaking and it got stuck.

His eyes soon stopped worked. The guy could still feel that he is on the floor, but after a few minutes his body stopped feeling that as well.

All he could feel is that he is floating in nothingness. That is all. He lost all of his senses. Soon, even his mind started getting blurred. He forgot about what he was doing before he fell, then The forgot that he even fell.

Then he forgot who he was.

Finally, that last bit of thought is also gone.

His body is still breathing, but all of its spiritual energy has leaked out and it is refusing to absorb anymore of it. Even the body's natural state in which it would instinctually absorb the surrounding spiritual energy is gone.

In that state, his life left him.

He died. There is not a single sign of injury, there are no signs of poison, there are not traces of battle of assassination.

All that happened is that... his body refused to work anymore.

His soul that controls his body, his brain that is responsible for the functions of his organs... they just refused to do their job and started working.

And this state is not just his.

Everyone else in the city or even within the range of the alert mechanisms for that matter, they all froze in the middle of whatever they are doing and fell on the ground.

Their bodies lost their senses and then lives, while leaving behind their physical shells in their most pristine condition.

Meanwhile...

Sam and the team has already arrived at another city long ago. This is the second city that sent reinforcements and they are half empty. Once again, Sam led them in and helped them with assassinations.

This time they didn't kill all of them. Only the people necessary. The ones close to the core and the nodes so that they can make the changes that they wanted.

Sam made similar changes and got ready to leave. Before they left, he deactivated the formation core again. This opened up another gap in the closed network, through which he calculated the coordinates of the next city.

This time, Sam modified the transference tokens and they all went to the third city.

The moment they left, the city members obviously got scared and went to check the formation core. One of the guys activated it and went to check. Within half an hour activation, the forces within the city all fell.

Only when Sam and his team are done with the third city did this anomaly reach the Poseidon team. That too because, they realized something went wrong with Nalvahan because of abrupt disconnection in the communication.

They tried to contact the team, but couldn't do so. So, they tried to contact the nearby forces and sent them there to check. While they are checking that, the Poseidon team identified the anomalies in the remaining two cities as well and realized that their assumption might have been really wrong.

The worst part of it all is that the forces that they sent to check also didn't send any communication.

The moment they entered the cities, they were also affected by the trap Sam laid. And the effect is much faster than before. Before they could reach the communication room, they fell and lost their lives.

Soon, the meeting that was originally arranged to strategize has become an emergency meeting to understand the situation.

In the Poseidon academy team's base.

The two strategists are solemn and the rest of team of fifteen members surrounded them. "What should we do now? We already lost five cities. No matter how many reinforcements we are sending there, they are all becoming unresponsive. People that checked the city from afar are still okay, but they are unable to confirm what is happening in the city."

One of the team members reiterated the situation. The two strategists are scratching their heads and pulling their hair out. They couldn't think of a reason for this to happen. And since they couldn't think of it, they are unable to propose a solution.

They have thought of various scenarios when they proposed this formation and expansion strategy. They thought of what to do if they are attacked head on. They thought of what to do if they are attacked from multiple fronts.

They thought of what to do if someone tried to enter the middle of the circle they arranged. But they never thought about a scenario where the people who are supposed to guard the cities will suddenly become unresponsive.

They couldn't even think of a reason that could lead to this possibility.

After losing six cities, they immediately sent a notification.

'Defend the core. All the transference points should be monitored. The enemies are dealing with the cities in a manner that we cannot understand. So, be careful. We will figure out the situation and inform you immediately.'

The mercenaries didn't know what was happening. Sam and the Gambler team stopped for a while after dealing with six cities.

"What do we do now?" Chetan asked Sam who is just looking at the map, particularly at the locations of the Poseidon team's cities.

"We will wait for a while to see how they will proceed. Their expansion has been halted. They either have to completely change the strategy, which will make them lose some more cities and give us a lot of openings.

Or, they will have to continue forward, for which they have to reclaim the lost six cities. In process, they are going to lose a lot of people and leave more cities open to us.

We will move accordingly."

"Why don't we just move forward with the current attacks? We will target each city like we did

the last six."

"What I used is a very dangerous trick. It kills without discrimination. So, the civilians will die. The only options we have are the three more cities left in the outer circle. But I want to

keep them there for now.

I am also sure that they must have fortified all the cores and nodes of the cities. There is no point in taking such a risk, when we are not planning complete annihilation with the next

move."

"Alright, then let's wait. But how long?"

"A day. Meanwhile, you can think of ways to pay me back." Sam said calmly while checking his

tablet.

"About that. Can we talk about it?"

"Yeah, I was thinking the same. We didn't discuss the interest rate. Here it is."

Sam threw another tablet at him with the details. Chetan was dumbfounded.

He didn't know what to do but stare at his teammates for help. But they acted like they don't

know what's happening.

With that, the team followed around Sam as they waited while roaming around the Poseidon academy's territory for the next day to come.

And just as Sam anticipated, the other party made a move. Falling within Sam's expectations, they decided to opt for one of the two options.
