Re-Awakening: I Became a Pay To Win Boss Monster

Chapter 294: Recovery, And Affinity

Rael found some food, gobbling it up as he waited for the siblings to wake up.

And after just a few hours, Jane opened her eyes.

The moment she did, she jumped up in surprise.

"Y-You're alive?" Jane asked.

Rael tilted his head, raising a single hand. "Surprise?"

"No... I mean, one of your lungs was punctured, your stomach was pierced, and your abdomen was covered in frostbite," Jane replied. "No normal human should've been able to survive that."

"Well, in case you didn't realize already, I'm built a little differently from the others," Rael said matter-of-factly, waving the spoon around in the air. "For one, this is not the same world as before, so there isn't anyone who's really normal, you know?"

"I get that... and I'm glad you managed to survive, but..." Jane trailed off, letting out a sigh. "I still can't believe something like this is possible."

Rael pointed at her eye with an amused look. "When was the last time you checked the mirror?"

Hearing that, Jane froze as she approached the TV, which wasn't working, and used it as a mirror.

A few moments later, she turned back around, her expression a mix of emotions.

She was both happy and conflicted.

Happy because her eye had practically grown back and only a little bit was left until she could likely see again.

And conflicted because she realized that she didn't really need to cut off Minos's arm as it would've healed by itself in due time.

But Rael wasn't going to lecture her about this kind of stuff, as she would figure it out on her own.

With that, Rael went on to ask her a few questions about what had happened during the week he was asleep.

For starters, they spent an entire day dragging him through the tunnel, hence the reason why his pants were ripped.

They eventually stumbled into this room and, ever since then, they spent their time inside, not leaving even once.

That was enough of an explanation for Rael as he proceeded to stretch, then lift the bed a couple of times, making sure his strength was still solid.

And it was.

As for his stats, it seemed like they had slightly increased while he slept.

My MP went up? How? Rael wondered.

His skills didn't use MP.

Not even the gremlin skill.

It was pretty much just an active skill that had no cost, but a cooldown instead.

Maybe there's something I'm missing? Maybe... I can manually control mana? Rael thought.

He entered the casual chuuni stance and extended his hand.

It felt like his hair had begun to float, and once it seemed like the fire inside him reached the pinnacle...

"Fireball!"

"..."

Nothing happened.

He just looked like an idiot.

And that rising heat?

It was just the chili pepper he had accidentally swallowed earlier.

"Are you trying to use magic?" Jane asked, stepping closer. "Want some help?"

He raised a brow. "You can help me with magic?"

She nodded. "My Basic Ice Manipulation skill lets me control ice. But I still need to control the mana itself, you know? I believe I can help you with the process."

"But how would that work? Do you think I'll just start spitting out frostbolts like you?" Rael asked.

Jane shook her head. "There are affinities. I was compatible with the Ice element, so I got the Ice affinity."

"I see... what about Minos?"

"He has an Earth affinity," Jane replied flatly, extending her hand. "Should we find out which one you have then?"

Rael was definitely caught off guard by her assertiveness.

Nothing much should have changed in the week, yet here she was, offering to teach mana control.

Huh... though I guess I'm not one to refuse freebies.

"Sure. Let's try it out."

He accepted her hand.

In the next moment, he felt a faint, warm energy enter his body, course throughout his veins, and finally rest inside his heart.

It didn't feel uncomfortable, but he definitely didn't like someone else prying inside his body like this.

Thankfully, the process lasted only a few seconds as Jane soon took her hand back and rubbed her cheek.

"So uhh..." Jane mumbled. "I don't think you have an affinity."

"What's that mean?"

"It means I don't know how to teach you how to use mana," Jane added. "When I inspected Minos, his heart felt sturdy. Almost like a rock. When I inspected my own heart, it felt cold. You get the idea, right?"

He nodded, and she continued.

"In your case... your heart just felt boring," Jane said bluntly. "There was no coldness, no heat, no sturdiness, and definitely not anything else. Because of that... I don't even know where to start."

Silence soon ensued, and all Rael could do was let out a sigh.

"Well, thanks for trying. It's fine," he said. "I wasn't expecting much anyways."

After all...

This body, and this entire life of his, was shit.

He was a gambler, and he was a bad person all in all.

He took out loans and gambled.

He sold his stolen guns and gambled.

So with everything happening now, Rael knew he was just reaping what he had sown.

Still... I can't help but feel pissed off, he thought as he paced around the room.

But that was when he suddenly halted, remembering something.

The Supreme Beast Bloodline.

Beast-type abilities, everything else.

He didn't know how they worked.

But what he understood about the Beasts through his Supreme Beast Bloodline was that their senses were enhanced, and so was their strength.

With that, Rael closed his eyes, focusing on the surroundings.

He could imagine everything inside the room, hear the heartbeats of everyone present.

But when he focused on their heartbeats, it almost felt like he was uncovering something.

Minutes passed, which soon stretched into hours.

But he stopped when he heard another heartbeat that didn't belong to either him or the two siblings.

And it was coming from the other side of the reinforced steel door in front of him.
