Chapter 260: Sending Them Away, And Heading Toward the Moon Goddess
"Awhh... pity," Rael said with a sigh, stealing a glance at Elise. "Looks like your momma doesn't want you to eat sweets, even inside a game, eh? Tsk tsk... how strict."
Before Milf_GattlingGun could throw a punch at Rael's face, Karina stepped forward, taking the candy cane from his hands.
"I-I'll hold onto it. I promise I'll sneak this over to Elise once Mari—uh, Milf_GattlingGun isn't looking."
He nodded in satisfaction, then raised his hand.
"You may leave for the time being. Come back after you've finished the quest. Understood?" Rael stated.
Almost like magic, the players didn't retaliate in the slightest before walking away.
He was puzzled for a moment, until he realized why they were so obedient.
<You have inflicted the Fear status effect on: 4 players>
Hmm... neat, Rael thought, turning to Zafira, who tapped the throne's armrest patiently.
She was still mad about that time he had died and come back.
He gave her quite the scare, but he kept trying his best to make up for it.
Still, he had to put that aside, as there were more important matters to attend to.
"Zareth has found one of the Five Seats. I'm planning to confront them now. You coming?"
"Huh?" Zafira's eyes widened. "Really? I thought we had nothing on them?"
He shook his head. "Zareth saw some suspicious signs a few weeks ago, but only now was he able to track them. So yeah, I think we should head out and eliminate them. God knows what they've been doing for the last few weeks."
Zafira stared at him for a moment before slumping back in her uncomfortable throne.
"If I didn't have to put up appearances, then I'd be inside a bean bag chair every single day..." she mumbled, meeting his gaze. "But Rael, can you even fight them?"
"Alune said it's okay, though she did mention a few limits," he said.
Rael cleared his throat. "First, no hits over 10 quadrillion damage. Second, I can only fight for 1 minute or the world is going to generously give me another strike. Third... she told me not to evolve my race until I ascended... That's about it."
Zafira furrowed her brows slightly. "Alune this, Alune that... you two have been talking quite frequently, haven't you?"
Upon hearing that, he let out a sigh.
"Nothing is going on between us, Zafira. But she's saved my life twice. The least I can do to repay her is be her friend," Rael replied plainly. "And don't think just because we're talking that I have feelings for her."
"Yeah, I know," Zafira said with a slight smirk. "You see... Alune contacted me a few days ago. We talked a bit, and don't worry, I'm not jealous."
His eyes widened, but before he could speak up, she did instead.
"I'll come with you, by the way. Just tell me where we're going."
Rael's expression turned serious as his earlier playfulness faded.
"The Five Seat we were able to track goes by the name of Alene... as it turns out, she's the Goddess of the Moon, the one all those fanatics in the Holy Kingdom worship."
"...What?" Zafira tightened her grip on the armrest, crushing it. "She's what?"
Rael nodded. "She's also the person who impersonated Reinhardt's mother. It's an interesting story, I had a blast listening to Zareth explain all of it."
"I'm sure..." She leaned back, shocked. "So the Moon religion is just... they're following one of those Five Seats instead of an actual god?"
"Pretty much. They're strong, but they're not strong enough to be gods," Rael replied. "Currently, Alene is residing in the Holy Kingdom. I believe she's in the city of Temperia."
"And are you sure I should go with you? Aren't I too weak?" Zafira asked. "The only reason I managed to beat that guy last time was because I used all my trump cards and Anubis's skills. If I do that again, I'm not sure what might happen."
"Think of it as a honeymoon," Rael said with a warm smile. "I'll deal with Alene, and after that, we can enjoy the countryside or something. We've not done that yet, have we?"
She returned the smile. "If this is your way of seeking forgiveness, then it's working. Okay, we can go whenever you'd like."
Rael's grin widened as he stepped forward and wrapped his arms around Zafira's waist.
Then he ripped a scroll he had bought earlier, and in the very next moment, they teleported.
A few seconds later, they reappeared, but due to a slight miscalculation, they landed atop the highest point of Temperia.
It was a giant magic tower, and the only one in the entire city.
Rael took a deep breath and picked Zafira up in a princess carry.
With a single leap, he dove toward the ground. Just as they were about to splatter, Rael waved his hand, summoning a strong gust of wind that stopped their fall.
They levitated down to the ground under the shocked gazes of the civilians.
—I-Is that...?
—Uhh... he looks familiar, but I can't make out his face...?
—The woman too... what's happening?
The crowd murmured, and the only reason they couldn't see the two of them was because of a cheap skill Rael picked up a few days ago.
Vision Distortment: [Level 100 | MAX] (Uncommon)
—Distort the perception of those gazing upon you. 75% effectiveness. Effect doesn't work on strong individuals.Duration: 1 HourCost: 50,000 MTP
Having cast it on both of them earlier, he gently set her down and took her hand.
The two strolled through the streets until the pop-up he was waiting for finally appeared.
<Your Lesser Ancient Dragon Bloodline is reacting!>
<Ancient Instinct has detected a malicious gaze within 10 kilometers!>
<Tracking...>
<Ding!>
<Human Avatar (Alene Grandeur) [Grade 1 | Level 2129] has been found!>
She was significantly stronger than Jashin, yet she was only the Fourth Seat.
Fucking hell... Is Alcetas going to be a Grade 3 or something? I might be a little fucked in that case, Rael thought, calming himself down.
He turned to Zafira with a warm smile.
"Wanna try out the local pizzas first?"
