Re-Awakening: I Became a Pay To Win Boss Monster

Chapter 153: Disruption, And An Unexpected Development

Several dozen wooden crates were stashed in a corner, surrounded by two bright, golden-armored Aztera soldiers and two priests of light.

This really is my lucky day... Rael whistled inwardly as he approached the group of people.

"Hey, it's time to switch," Rael said with a wave.

"Roger?" one of the soldiers tilted their head. "You do know we switched out with you, right? Five minutes ago...?"

"Yeah, but I'm not really in the mood to buy drinks this time," Rael replied with a chuckle, and nodded toward the white-robed priests. "May the blessings of Light reach us all."

The priests' eyes widened. "Are you a believer?"

"Yep, and I had a pretty interesting prophecy earlier."

No I didn't.

"Guess you can sub in with me," a soldier said as he began walking away, a small smirk on his face. "Just remember, when you do buy drinks, buy me double."

Rael nodded. "Will do, boss. See ya in a bit."

With that, the soldier happily left. Now, only Rael, another Aztera guard, and a priest were left.

But he had to wrap this up fast.

<Mass Synaptic Hijack is active!>

<Duration: 12 seconds.>

Everyone had their guards down, so Rael walked toward the supplies, unsheathed his sword and decided to start his plan.

"The prophecy..." he muttered. "For the God of light—"

Yet just as he was about to slash down and destroy the supplies, a sudden piercing pain shot through his chest.

<You've been killed!>

Welp... Rael rolled his eyes and went back inside the mind realm before pinpointing the body of the person who had just killed him.

He simply tapped on the cocoon and his vision shifted as he glanced down at the bloodied sword in his hands and the corpse of Roger ahead.

<Mass Synaptic Hijack is active!>

<Duration: 7 seconds.>

Rael cleared his throat and spoke loud enough for the priests to hear.

"Fucking fanatic... and here I thought his God of Light bullshit was actually making sense. Turns out that god was just as fake as Roger's loyalty to the crown."

"How dare you!" a priest stepped up in anger. "Do you realize you're on thin ice? Your prince has shown his devotion. Yet, the heinous things he has done in the past can't be forgiven."

The priest narrowed his eyes. "Bend the knee and apologize to the God of Light. If you don't, then we will take this as aggression and will hold your prince accountable."

Rael chuckled and, in the very next moment, pulled his giant sword back and threw it straight toward the priest in the back.

He had missed on purpose and pierced the wall beside the priest. However, the message was clear.

"Fuck your god. And fuck you too."

The priest stared at Rael speechlessly for a moment before bringing his head down and nodding.

"You will be hearing from us soon..." he added, checked up on the other priest, and walked away, glaring at Rael from a distance.

Well... that went about as well as I expected, Rael thought with a chuckle, and turned to the supply boxes that had been bloodied by Roger's corpse.

He tried activating a skill to destroy them, however...

<ERROR!>

<Skill Usage Blocked!>

I probably need to upgrade my skill for that.

But while that didn't work, one thing did.

•—Premium Shop—•

• A mana crystal that had turned volatile because the procrastinating wizard forgot his diary on his carpet and couldn't find it until it was too late (Common): 35,000 Trell

Rael didn't waste a single second and bought the second option.

A palm-sized pink crystal appeared in front of him, and Rael immediately spotted an interesting function.

<Timed Detonation>

Hmm... not so volatile after all.

<Timed Detonation Selected!>

<Timer Set!>

<Detonating in 10 seconds!>

He threw it on the crates ahead and prepared to let it blow up alongside the soldier.

As much as he would love to spare this guy, he realized that people could still vaguely realize what was happening after he possessed them.

Therefore, he readied himself, watching as the timer was running out.

<Mass Synaptic Hijack is active!>

<Duration: 3 seconds.>

Yet in the last few seconds, Rael suddenly had an idea, and, without a second thought, he gave it a shot.

<Devour the following: Memories.>

<Duration Selected: Last 1 hour.>

<Warning: Process is irreversible.>

<Do you wish to proceed? Yes/No>

Rael didn't pay any attention to the pop-ups as he took a couple dozen steps back and swiftly pressed "Yes."

He couldn't observe anything else as his vision darkened, and he reappeared back in the alleyway.

<Synaptic Hijack has finished!>

<Sloth: Paragon of Fear has increased your stats!>

<+292 Willpower>

Neat, Rael thought as he leaned against the wall.

He could see the same priests scrambling along the streets, both of their expressions filled with anger.

They left his line of sight soon enough, and Rael finally began counting inwardly.

And once the count reached six seconds, the ground shook, followed by an ear-piercing sound.

—BOOOOOOOOOM!

Yikes... Rael walked further into the alleyway. No horses were near the end there, so it's fine. Only the crates were destroyed.

The guy whose body he took over hadn't died. Otherwise, Rael would've probably received a notification.

Nonetheless, he saw a small smoke cloud rise up into the sky as soldiers, city guards, and even mercenaries all ran toward the other end of the stables, right where the explosion happened.

In the meantime, Rael walked the other way and arrived on the street.

Some people were panicked, but most didn't even budge from the explosion, almost like it was a daily occurrence.

Rael strolled around until eventually he sat down on a bench and crossed his legs.

Guess that's that for now. Now the only thing left is... Rael trailed off as he heard a ding.

Turning toward it, he saw Karina's message.

<Karina: I have good news and bad news, which do you want to hear first?>

Rael's brows twitched. <Rael Sutekh: Good.>

<Karina: Okay. Good news: that explosion just now interrupted their talks.>

Don't tell me... Rael tapped his fingers on the bench in unease, waiting for her to finish typing.

And as her message arrived, he froze, his brows furrowing even further.

<Karina: Bad news: Aztera and Ogarak are discussing something along the lines of forming a unified kingdom. I'm not a political expert, but I think both sides are in agreement.>

Rael stood up with a blank look as he began walking toward where Karina, Reinhardt, and the barbarians were.

I guess it's time to try another approach...
