Chapter 1: Chapter 1
-Tokyo, Japan -
In one of the alleys, a boy with white hair, golden eyes, and strikingly handsome features strolled leisurely until he reached a pitch-dark section of the alley.
He leaned quietly against the wall, waiting for about two minutes before hearing the voices of two men who seemed to be finalizing some sort of deal.
The two shook hands and were about to part ways when the boy slowly emerged from the shadows.
"A runaway demon and a half-beast? What a combination," he said calmly, as the two men quickly exchanged glances.
They weren't foolish; they noticed the glowing pendant hanging from the boy's neck, softly illuminated in the darkness.
It was a clear sign that he was a member of the Paranormal Countermeasure Organization, which meant trouble for beings like them.
The white hair, the golden eyes, and the strikingly handsome face could only describe one person:
The strongest agent, Jin Hiratsuka.
The two tried to move, but Jin was faster. They didn't even see the strike that left gaping holes in their chests.
Both collapsed helplessly as Jin pulled out his phone and called someone named Alex.
As soon as the call connected, Jin spoke directly, "Send someone for cleanup."
The other voice acknowledged and complied as Jin slowly exited the alley.
"This world is absurdly chaotic," Jin muttered to himself while passing a restaurant to grab some food.
'It was supposed to be a slice-of-life world!'
He sighed again. As some might guess, Jin wasn't originally from this world.
Or rather, his soul had come from a normal dimension after his death. When his memories returned at the age of five, he realized he was in an anime world.
He wasn't particularly thrilled about it. Living in this world and watching it were two entirely different things.
However, he initially accepted his situation, thinking it was a slice-of-life anime world, especially when he found out he had been adopted by the Hiratsuka family.
This was the family of the famous character, the iron-fisted teacher, Shizuka Hiratsuka.
But after only three more years, he discovered that he had a system.
The system was called "Efficiency," and all he had to do was kill monsters to earn rewards.
That's when he realized this world was a blend of multiple anime universes.
(Rewards are available for collection by the host.)
Looking at the notification floating in front of his eyes, he accepted it, and his new ability appeared.
He spoke the command to display his status screen.
- Name: Jin Hiratsuka
- Age: 17
- Race: Human
- Abilities:
(All abilities of King Arthur)
(Unlimited energy)
(Access to all abilities forbidden to the host's race)
(NEW! Mastery of all martial arts)
(Photographic memory)
Jin was slightly surprised. It had been over three years since he had chosen a worthwhile ability from the reward list instead of trivial items like a toothbrush with a 100% whitening guarantee.
When Jin entered the restaurant, he received many stares immediately. He was used to this; he was always the center of attention.
The reason was his appearance. He was extremely handsome and had a physique that stood out. Unlike most people, his body wasn't lean or frail.
It was well-built, exuding strength, with a height of 186 cm, taller than the average Japanese person.
After placing his order, Jin stepped outside. Before he could enjoy his meal, his phone rang.
He glanced at the caller ID: "Brynhilda."
Brynhilda, a name tied to a legendary figure in German mythology and one of the Valkyries, was a character in this world derived from the game Azur Lane.
She was Jin's partner and one of his many collaborators in the Paranormal Countermeasure Organization.
They had completed countless missions together, and their relationship was close. Brynhilda was straightforward, serious, and always composed. Jin had never seen her show any emotion, whether happy or sad.
"Yes?" Jin answered to hear her calm voice.
"Are you done with your daily tasks?" Brynhilda asked directly. It was her habit to drag Jin out for drinks.
"I think… no?" He was about to agree before remembering that tomorrow was the first day of his high school.
Although he wasn't particularly interested in attending, he had to maintain his identity as a diligent and athletic student.
In reality, it was easy for him. As someone who had already completed college, his photographic memory allowed him to absorb knowledge in all fields at an astonishing pace, making school and university seem trivial.
Thus, it wasn't difficult for him to excel academically while also fulfilling his duties with the organization.
When you're strong and intelligent, life becomes simple.
After bidding farewell to Brynhilda on the phone, Jin resumed eating his sandwich quietly, reflecting on this chaotic world.
He had been an agent for the organization since the age of eight, encountering countless characters from various anime works.
As he was about to review his list of encounters, his phone vibrated.
Seeing that the sender was Alex, Jin knew the combat site had been cleaned.
Finishing his meal peacefully, he discarded the trash and headed toward his apartment.
Suddenly, Jin stopped, his eyes focusing on a specific direction. After a moment of thought, he vanished from where he stood.
—
On a dark, deserted road, Marin Kitagawa stood confused.
Though it was 9 PM—a relatively late hour—it wasn't late enough for the streets to be completely empty.
Marin had just left a gathering with friends. Because it was a bit late, she decided to take a shortcut home.
While walking, she encountered a black cat staring at her quietly.
Charmed by the cat's cuteness, she wanted to pet it, but the cat ignored her and looked behind her.
Puzzled, Marin turned around to see a massive creature—a three-headed dog surrounded by unrelenting flames.
The dog stared calmly at her, and she froze on the spot.
It wasn't something humans were meant to face, let alone a teenage girl who had just entered high school.
Marin's mind went blank. When she tried to move, her legs wouldn't cooperate. She could only watch as the dog slowly approached her.
She felt a hand on her shoulder, grounding her slightly, but her fear kept her from looking back.
"You need to move, you know?" a male voice said. Turning quickly, Marin saw Jin, but before her brain could process it, the dog lunged at them.
"Watch out!" she shouted, attempting to push Jin away, but Jin turned briefly before disappearing and delivering a powerful kick to the dog, sending it crashing into a building.
"Saber-toothed Cerberus," Jin identified the creature. It was incredibly weak compared to the original.
Had it been the original, Jin might have had to put in extra effort to take it down. But from that single strike, he knew this was just an imitation.
Shrugging, Jin stopped overthinking as he noticed the creature rising again.
Jin only needed to wait for the organization to send people to retrieve Cerberus.
He had informed them on his way about the existence of a monster on a slightly different level, considered stronger than the others.
When encountering a stronger monster, the organization does not immediately opt for killing it but instead captures it to conduct various experiments.
There are several reasons behind this system of not killing strong monsters, with two key reasons standing out:
Firstly, although Jin is the strongest agent, the organization does not rely solely on him, as they have other exceptionally strong members as well. Some of these members are stationed entirely at the headquarters, ensuring its full protection while keeping the strong monsters subdued and contained.
Secondly, there is the study of monsters.
The monster's fighting style, combat methods, and power usage serve as important references for current or future agents, as they may provide insights into various ways to defeat monsters.
Thus, monsters in the category of a "Fake Cerberus," while far from the original, are significantly stronger than regular monsters, common demons, or half-monsters. The organization handles them in a completely different manner.
Therefore, Jin had no intention of killing it but merely delaying it long enough for the organization to arrive.
As the dog charged at him at an incredible speed, Jin dodged it once again and landed a kick on the middle of one of its heads, causing the latter to feel intense pain.
But Jin didn't stop there. He leaped high into the air before descending like a missile, delivering a powerful blow that knocked Cerberus unconscious.
"Only three strikes?" Jin shook his head in disappointment. Even if you're a fake, you should've put up a bit more of a fight, right?
He dusted off his hands slightly as he saw several figures in black suits approaching.
Agents in Jin's category did not need to file reports because their strength was absurd, making them unfit as references for lower-ranking agents.
So, he nodded as a greeting to them and was about to head to his apartment.
"E-Excuse me!"
